Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Dave Bautista Reveals Why He Left WWE

While he may be on thin ice with the multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate known as Disney, Dave Bautista continues to bite the hand that’s been feeding him for over half a decade.

Unsurprisingly, although it would’ve been in his best interest to tread lightly, earlier this afternoon, Bautista confirmed he would indeed be returning for Avengers 4 despite having perished – alongside much of the titular supergroup – during the cataclysmic finale of Infinity War. Now, to add insult to injury after dropping that spoiler, we learned that it was the House of Mouse which gave Bautista his big break in the first place.

During a sit-down with talkSport, the former wrestler discussed his decision to leave the WWE which, evidently, boiled down to the fact that he “wanted to be a better actor.”

“It came about out of spite. First, I have to say it came from me discovering I was a horrible actor and I wanted to be a better actor and I wanted to do it while I was still with WWE. They would not give me the opportunity within the company.

So I said, ‘I should be given the opportunity to do it outside of the company.’ They said, ‘absolutely not.’” I said, ‘Well I’m going to let my contract run out, and I’m going to leave.’ So that’s exactly what I did, and I set out to be an actor.”

Admittedly, the choice to split was “maybe a little stupid,” as he “made a very good living” with the WWE, and it took Bautista quite a while to find quality work in Hollywood. That said, everything panned out, and by mid-March 2013 the native of Washington, D.C. had landed the role of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy and the rest, as they say, is history.

However, the stardom afforded to Dave Bautista after participating in Spectre and Blade Runner 2049, might’ve gone to his head. After all, he doesn’t appear to be too grateful toward the Mouse House for his breakthrough role, as he’s perpetually tearing Disney a new one over the firing of filmmaker James Gunn. As a result, the actor may very well find himself terminated before too long – although, I doubt he’d care much at this stage.
