One of the worst movies ever made soars up the Netflix ranks

Nicolas Cage might be in the midst of a resurgence thanks to the eclectic and eccentric likes of Mandy, Color Out of Space, Pig, Prisoners of the Ghostland and next year’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, but the Academy Award winner hasn’t half made some absolute crap during his career.

His nadir came in the last decade, where he apparently felt compelled to sign on to every project that came his way, the vast majority of which turned out to be nothing short of terrible. Forgettable thrillers are one thing, but 2014’s Left Behind is a woeful affront to cinema, one that’s regularly named as one of the worst movies ever made.

‘The Unforgivable’ gives Sandra Bullock a unique Netflix record

Hard-hitting drama The Unforgivable didn’t fare too well with critics, winding up with a disappointing 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s turned out to be a massive success for Netflix.

The dramatic thriller from Nora Fingscheidt was trending constantly after first premiering on November 24, topping the most-watched list in 83 countries and leaving audiences in awe of Sandra Bullock’s phenomenal performance. As it turns out, The Unforgivable has proven to be so popular that it’s entered the platform’s all-time Top 10 list.

Kevin Feige explains how ‘Harry Potter’ inspired the MCU’s ‘Spider-Man’

Up until the Marvel Cinematic Universe came along, Harry Potter held the title of being cinema’s highest-grossing franchise ever, with the eight-film saga following the Boy Who Lived turning a literary phenomenon into a cultural one.

Of course, Kevin Feige’s monolithic series of interconnected comic book adaptations have since built up an unassailable lead at the head of the pack, with Spider-Man: No Way Home taking the MCU’s cumulative earnings within touching distance of the $25 billion mark.

‘The Expendables 4’ star shares excitement at joining the franchise

It looked for a long time as though The Expendables 4 would never happen, with eight years having passed since the third installment, before it was confirmed that Sylvester Stallone was getting at least some of the band back together for another action-packed adventure.

The last outing for the aging band of heroes was viewed as a huge disappointment, with the PG-13 rating neutering the entire appeal of the property, while a pristine copy leaking online in its entirety weeks ahead of release did the movie’s box office prospects no favors.

A dire Bruce Willis thriller shoots for Netflix success

Although his recent filmography might suggest otherwise, Bruce Willis movies do occasionally arrive in theaters, even if it’s become increasingly rare as the action icon hedges his bets on a succession of forgettable VOD genre films that tend to arrive at alarmingly regular intervals.

The actor has lent his grizzled talents to no less than nineteen features since the beginning of 2018, and a whopping four of them have seen the inside of a multiplex. Sure, his contributions to The LEGO Movie: The Second Part were limited to a cameo, Glass was a major disappointment and Motherless Brooklyn flopped, but they still happened played on the big screen.

Kevin Feige recalls huge pressure for the MCU to get Spider-Man right

Sony’s handling of Spider-Man was rightly called into question by a lot of fans after the studio had been directly responsible for watching two separate franchises implode long before they were supposed to, something that really stung for a lot of fans as they watched the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfold concurrently.

Iron Man was released a year after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, but the filmmaker’s plans for a fourth installment ultimately fell by the wayside. The Amazing Spider-Man duology saw Sony begin to lay the foundations for an entire shared Marvel mythology of their own, but after Andrew Garfield’s sequel became the lowest-grossing and worst-reviewed Spidey movie ever, development was halted on a multitude of additional projects.

‘Eternals’ director reveals alternate ending people would have hated

Most of the hubbub surrounding the end of Eternals came from the credits scenes, which was understandable when the two stingers set some very interesting things in motion for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s short and long term future, while also giving us the very poorly-rendered Pip the Troll into the bargain.

Harry Styles made his franchise debut as Eros, brother of Thanos, who looks set to factor into either a direct sequel to Chloe Zhao’s intergalactic extravaganza, or whatever comes next for the plucky band of immortal aliens. On top of that, Mahershala Ali’s Blade made his first offscreen MCU appearance to intone an ominous warning in the direction of Kit Harington’s Black Knight, which could set the latter up for a role in the Daywalker’s reboot.

‘Don’t Look Up’ director claims a mistake in the movie was intentional

Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up has proven to be a huge hit for Netflix after comfortably topping both the most-watched list and the weekly viewership charts, but it would be an understatement to say the general consensus has been fairly divisive.

Some people are going wild for the star-studded, razor sharp and often absurd disaster comedy, while just as many folks decry the filmmaker’s cloying smugness, heavy-handedness and holier-than-thou approach to the material. With a $75 million budget and some impressive effects, Don’t Look Up is immaculately assembled from a technical perspective, but some fans still think they spotted a noticeable mistake.
