<strong>পটনা</strong>: এক নৃশংস ঘটনার সাক্ষী থাকল বিহারের রোহতাস। শিশুদের মধ্যে ঝগড়ার জেরে পিটিয়ে মারা হল এক তফশিলী মহিলাকে। ৪০ বছর বয়সি ওই মহিলাকে মারাত্মক জখম অবস্থায় হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলেও, দু’দিন পরে তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়েছে। তিনজন অভিযুক্তকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ। একজন পলাতক। তার খোঁজে তল্লাশি শুরু হয়েছে। ডেহরির এসডিপিও আনোয়ার জাভেদ জানিয়েছেন, শুক্রবার রাতে অম্বেদকর চকের কাছে এই ঘটনা ঘটে। দুই পরিবারের দীর্ঘদিনের বিবাদ ছিল। শুক্রবার শিশুদের মধ্যে সামান্য গোলমাল হয়। এরপরেই রাম অবতার নামে এক যুবক তার চার বন্ধুকে নিয়ে লাঠি দিয়ে ওই মহিলাকে বেধড়ক মারধর করে। এর জেরেই তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়েছে। অভিযুক্তদের বিরুদ্ধে এফআইআর দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

<strong>পটনা</strong>: এক নৃশংস ঘটনার সাক্ষী থাকল বিহারের রোহতাস। শিশুদের মধ্যে ঝগড়ার জেরে পিটিয়ে মারা হল এক তফশিলী মহিলাকে। ৪০ বছর বয়সি ওই মহিলাকে মারাত্মক জখম অবস্থায় হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলেও, দু’দিন পরে তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়েছে। তিনজন অভিযুক্তকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ। একজন পলাতক। তার খোঁজে তল্লাশি শুরু হয়েছে। ডেহরির এসডিপিও আনোয়ার জাভেদ জানিয়েছেন, শুক্রবার রাতে অম্বেদকর চকের কাছে এই ঘটনা ঘটে। দুই পরিবারের দীর্ঘদিনের বিবাদ ছিল। শুক্রবার শিশুদের মধ্যে সামান্য গোলমাল হয়। এরপরেই রাম অবতার নামে এক যুবক তার চার বন্ধুকে নিয়ে লাঠি দিয়ে ওই মহিলাকে বেধড়ক মারধর করে। এর জেরেই তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়েছে। অভিযুক্তদের বিরুদ্ধে এফআইআর দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

Yesterday, apropos of seemingly nothing, a tiny voice deep in the folds of my brain squeaked at me: “Pika-pi,” it said. “Pika, pika-chu.” Well-conditioned late-’90s child that I am, I was compelled to answer the call: I had to consume some Pokémon.

It was only after I was eight episodes into the original series that I realized (no, really, I am not making this up for dramatic effect): the next day — today — was the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon pilot airing in the US That “Pika-pi” has been drilling into my skull for two decades, years after I’d stopped giving a damn about new Pokémon games (sorry, friends, 250 is my limit), and now here it was again, to passive-aggressively remind me of my encroaching mortality.

President Donald Trump suggested this morning that Apple should move its manufacturing plants to America as a way to avoid tariffs in the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China, following reports that the company’s products could become more expensive.

One of 1998’s biggest tech stories was the massive antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft. It’s Monopoly Week on The Verge, so I wrote a bit about that lawsuit’s place in the ‘90s legal landscape. I’m in the middle of reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time after being a huge fan of the 2005 film adaptation for at least a couple years. It’s been fascinating to see the differences between the book and the movie (what they cut, the lines they shifted around, how they adapted a multipage explanatory letter into a dramatic scene). But the thing that’s stood out to me the most is just how inseparable the actors’ performances have become from the lines I’m reading on the page.

In a lot of ways, I suspect it’s like reading Shakespeare after seeing it performed — particularly because the lines aren’t entirely in modern English, and especially because Jane Austen’s dialogue is laced with so much understated sarcasm and quiet...

নয়াদিল্লি:  কেন্দ্রের নরেন্দ্র মোদী সরকার যেখানে ‘ভারত গড়া’র লক্ষ্যে কাজ করছে, সেখানে কংগ্রেস ভারত ভাঙতে মাঠে নেমেছে! বললেন অমিত শাহ। দলের জাতীয় কর্মসমিতির বৈঠকে বিজেপি সভাপতি শনিবার দাবি করেন, ২০১৯-এর নির্বাচনে ২০১৪-র চেয়েও বেশি আসন, জনমত পাবে। প্রসঙ্গত, ২০১৪-র লোকসভা ভোটে ৫৪৩টি আসনের মধ্যে বিজেপি ২৮২টি জিতেছিল। দেশের উন্নয়নে কেন্দ্রের নরেন্দ্র মোদী সরকার অনেক কাজ করেছে বলে দাবি করেন তিনি। বলেন, অর্থনীতির মাপকাঠিতে ভারত আজ ফ্রান্সকে ছাড়িয়ে গিয়েছে। দেশের ১৯টি রাজ্য, ৭৫ শতাংশ এলাকা শাসন করছে বিজেপি। তবে এতে আত্মসন্তুষ্টিতে না ভুগে আমাদের ২০১৯-এ আরও বড় জয়, সাফল্য  অর্জন সুনিশ্চিত করতে হবে। কয়েকটি বিরোধী দলের বিজেপি বিরোধী মহাজোট তৈরির উদ্যোগকে কটাক্ষ করেও রাজনাথ বলেন, মহাগঠবন্ধন চোখে ধুলো দেওয়ার একটা চেষ্টা, বিভ্রম, মিথ্যার ওপর দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে। ২০১৯-এ তা মুখ থুবড়ে পড়বে। এদিকে বিজেপি ঠিক করেছে, ২০১৯-এর নির্বাচনে দলের নেতৃত্ব দেবেন অমিত শাহই। আসছে জানুয়ারিতে তাঁর বিজেপি সভাপতি পদের চলতি মেয়াদ শেষ হচ্ছে। তবে সম্ভবত বিজেপি আগামী লোকসভা ভোট পর্যন্ত  সাংগঠনিক নির্বাচন পর্ব স্থগিত রাখছে কারণ নির্বাচনী বৈতরণী পার হওয়ার চ্যালেঞ্জকেই সর্বোচ্চ গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে তারা। দলেরই এক নেতার বক্তব্য,  দলীয় সভাপতি, তাঁর নেতৃত্বাধীন পদাধিকারী ও কর্মীরা যাতে পুরোপুরি ভোটপ্রচারে মন দিতে পারেন, সেজন্য অতীতেও ভোটের বছরে সাংগঠনিক নির্বাচন পিছিয়ে  দেওয়া  হয়েছে। বিজেপি সূত্রে বলা হয়েছে, দুদিনের জাতীয় কর্মসমিতির বৈঠকের ফাঁকে অমিত শাহ দলীয় সাংগঠনিক মেশিনারিকে ভোটে ব্যবহার করা নিয়েও আলোচনা করবেন। ২০১৪- র মে মাসে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী মন্ত্রিসভায় অন্তর্ভুক্ত হলে বিজেপি সভাপতি পদ ছাড়েন রাজনাথ  সিংহ। তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হন অমিত। ২০১৬-য় তিনি বিজেপি সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন। বিজেপির সংগঠন অনুসারে ৩ বছর করে টানা দুবার কেউ দলের সভাপতি থাকতে পারেন। সেইমতো আরও একটি মেয়াদের জন্য সভাপতি হতে পারেন অমিত।

কোনও বৈধ ভারতীয়ের নাম বাদ পড়বে না এনআরসি থেকে, কারা ভারতীয় আর কারাই বা বিদেশি, জানা দরকার, বললেন রাজনাথ

<strong>নয়াদিল্লি:</strong>  কোনও ভারতীয় জাতীয় নাগরিকপঞ্জি (এনআরসি) থেকে বাদ পড়বেন না বলে আশ্বস্ত করলেন রাজনাথ সিংহ। একইসঙ্গে ভারতীয় নাগরিকদের শনাক্ত করে বেআইনি অনুপ্রবেশকারীদের বাছাই করে বাদ দেওয়া জরুরি বলেও অভিমত জানিয়েছেন  তিনি। শনিবার বিজেপি নেতা সুনীল দেওধর প্রতিষ্ঠিত এনজিও ‘মাই হোম ইন্ডিয়া’ আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে কেন্দ্রীয় স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী বলেন, আমি জানিয়ে দিতে চাই, কোনও প্রকৃত ভারতীয়ের নাম এনআরসি থেকে বাদ যাবে না। তবে কারা ভারতীয় আর কারাই বা বিদেশি, সেটা জানা খুবই জরুরি। পাশাপাশি অসমে জাতীয় নাগরিকপঞ্জি আপডেট করার কাজটি সুপ্রিম কোর্টের প্রত্যক্ষ তদারকিতে চলছে বলেও সওয়াল করেন রাজনাথ। ঘটনাচক্রে গত ৩০ জুলাই প্রকাশিত  অসমের নাগরিকপঞ্জির খসড়া তালিকা থেকে ৪০ লক্ষের বেশি লোকের নাম বাদ পড়াকে কেন্দ্র করে তুমুল বিতর্ক হয়েছে। অসমে আসল ভারতীয় নাগরিকদের শনাক্ত করতে সুপ্রিম কোর্টের নজরদারিতে হয়েছে তথ্যপঞ্জি আপডেট করার প্রক্রিয়া। ২০০৫ সালে কেন্দ্র, তত্কালীন রাজ্য সরকার ও ছাত্র সংগঠন আসুর মধ্যে দফায় দফায় বৈঠকে গৃহীত সিদ্ধান্ত অনুসারে  এই কাজ হাতে নেওয়া হয়েছে। অসমে প্রথম  এনআরসি হয় ১৯৫১-য়। ২০০৫ সালে যে এনআরসি তৈরির প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হয়, তা জোরদার হয় বিজেপি অসমে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর।

রাফাল চুক্তি নিয়ে জাতীয় নিরাপত্তার সঙ্গে আপস করছে কেন্দ্র, অভিযোগ কংগ্রেসের

<strong>চণ্ডীগড়</strong>: রাফাল যুদ্ধবিমান চুক্তি নিয়ে ফের কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে ফের সুর চড়াল কংগ্রেস। মোদী সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে জাতীয় নিরাপত্তার সঙ্গে আপস করার অভিযোগ করেছে কংগ্রেস। ইউপিএ সরকারের আমলে এই যুদ্ধবিমানের দাম কম থাকলেও, এনডিএ সরকারের আমলে সেটি বেড়ে গেল কেন, প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী ও প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী নির্মলা সীতারমনের কাছ থেকে তার জবাবও চেয়েছে কংগ্রেস। আজ কেন্দ্রকে আক্রমণ করে কংগ্রেস মুখপাত্র রণদীপ সিংহ সূরজেওয়ালা বলেছেন, ‘এখন এটা স্পষ্ট হয়ে গিয়েছে, সংসদে এবং সংসদের বাইরে মোদী ও সীতারমন যে কথা বলেছিলেন, সেটা ভারতের বিমানবাহিনী আগেই ঠিক করেছিল। কংগ্রেস নেতৃত্বাধীন ইউপিএ সরকার ১২৬টি রাফাল যুদ্ধবিমানের বরাত দিয়েছিল। যদি এই যুদ্ধবিমানের প্রযুক্তির বিষয়ে সবকিছু ঠিক হয়ে থাকে এবং তার ভিত্তিতেই মোদী সরকার রাফাল কিনছে, তাহলে কেন দেশের মানুষের ৪১,০০০ কোটি টাকা ক্ষতি করা হল?’ সূরজেওয়ালা আরও বলেছেন, ‘২০০৭ সালে রাফাল যুদ্ধবিমানের প্রযুক্তি হস্তান্তর, লাইসেন্স যুক্ত উৎপাদন ও আজীবন রক্ষণাবেক্ষণের ব্যবস্থা সংক্রান্ত চুক্তি হয়েছিল। মোদী সরকার কেন হ্যালকে আগামী প্রজন্মের রাফাল যুদ্ধবিমানের প্রযুক্তি সরবরাহের চুক্তি বাতিল করেছে? তা সত্ত্বেও কীভাবে যুদ্ধবিমানের দাম বেড়ে গেল? সবচেয়ে ভয়াবহ বিষয় হল, এই যুদ্ধবিমানগুলিতে ভারতকেন্দ্রিক প্রযুক্তি থাকবে না। ২০২২-এর পরে যুদ্ধবিমানগুলি পাওয়া যাবে। পাকিস্তান ও চিনের দিক থেকে আক্রমণের আশঙ্কা যখন বাড়ছে, তখন এটা কি জাতীয় নিরাপত্তার সঙ্গে আপস নয়? ২০১৯-এ কংগ্রেস ক্ষমতায় এলে এই চুক্তি খতিয়ে দেখবে।’

গ্রেফতার প্যাস্টর, প্রশাসন, পুলিশি অভিযানে কাঠুয়ার স্বীকৃতিহীন অনাথ আশ্রম থেকে উদ্ধার ৮টি মেয়ে সহ ১৯ নাবালক

জম্মু:  আটটি শিশুকন্যা সমেত অন্তত ১৯টি ছেলেমেয়ে উদ্ধার জম্মু ও কাশ্মীরের কাঠুয়ার এক স্বীকৃতিহীন অনাথ আশ্রম থেকে। আশ্রমের কেরল থেকে আসা এক যাজক তাদের হয়রানি ও বিরক্ত, হেনস্থা করছেন বলে কয়েকটি বাচ্চার অভিযোগের প্রেক্ষিতে সেখানে শুক্রবার হানা দেয় স্থানীয় প্রশাসন, পুলিশ। অ্যান্টনি টমাস নামে ওই প্যাস্টরকে গ্রেফতার করে শিশু,  নাবালকদের যৌন নির্যাতন থেকে রক্ষা সংক্রান্ত পকসো আইনে অভিযুক্ত করা হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পুলিশ। তবে যাবতীয় অভিযোগ অস্বীকার করেন টমাস। ৫ থেকে ১৬ বছরের উদ্ধার হওয়া ছেলেমেয়েগুলিকে সরকার পরিচালিত বাল আশ্রম ও নারী নিকেতনে পাঠানো হয়েছে বলে জানা গিয়েছে। তারা পঞ্জাব, জম্মু ও হিমাচল প্রদেশের। সুনির্দিষ্ট অভিযোগের ভিত্তিতে উদ্ধার অভিযান হয়েছে, আরও তদন্ত চলছে বলে জানিয়েছেন কাঠুয়ার এসএসপি শ্রীধর পাটিল। তিনি বলেন, বহু বছর ধরে চলছিল অনাথ আশ্রমটি। তার সঙ্গে যোগ ছিল একটি এনজিও-র। দিনকয়েক আগে অবশ্য যোগাযোগ ছিন্ন করে এনজিও-টি। সরকারি কর্তারা অনাথ আশ্রম থেকে কিছু সামগ্রী বাজেয়াপ্ত করেছেন, উদ্ধার ছেলেমেয়েগুলিকে চিকিত্সা, কাউন্সেলিং দেওয়া হচ্ছে বলে জানান তিনি। অনাথ আশ্রমে পুলিশি অভিযান হয় কাঠুয়ার এসিপি জিতেন্দ্র মিশ্রের নেতৃত্বে। তিনি জানান, কাঠুয়ার ডেপুটি কমিশনার অনাথ আশ্রমে বাচ্চাদের হেনস্থা, নির্যাতনের বেশ কিছু অভিযোগ পাওয়ার পর  অভিযান চালানোর নির্দেশ দেন। উদ্ধার ছেলেমেয়েদের পরিবারগুলির সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা হচ্ছে। মিশ্র জানান, টমাস তল্লাশির সময় ওই অনাথ আশ্রম চালানোর ব্যাপারে কোনও নথি পেশ করতে পারেননি। ওই আশ্রম চালানোর কারণ খতিয়ে দেখা হচ্ছে। এদিকে রাষ্ট্রীয় বজরং দল নামে একটি গোষ্ঠীর লোকজন শনিবার জম্মু প্রেস ক্লাবের বাইরে বিক্ষোভ দেখায়, অভিযুক্তদের কঠোর সাজা চায়। ওই প্যাস্টরের কুশপুতুলও পোড়ায় তারা।

চেন্নাই: কেন্দ্রের বিজেপি পরিচালিত সরকার দেশে ‘নির্বাচনী একনায়কতন্ত্র’ চালাচ্ছে বলে অভিযোগ করে ডিএমকে ঘোষণা করল, তারা নরেন্দ্র মোদীর দলের ‘গেরুয়াকরণের স্বপ্ন’ বানচাল করে দেবে। দেশের সাংবিধানিক মূল্যবোধ অক্ষুন্ন রাখতে তাঁরা যে কোনও মূল্য দিতে তৈরি বলে জানিয়েছেন  ডিএমকে নেতৃত্ব। এম করুণানিধির মৃত্যুর পর দলের সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হওয়া তাঁর পুত্র এম কে স্ট্যালিনের পৌরহিত্যে ডিএমকে জেলা সম্পাদক, সাংসদ, বিধায়কদের বৈঠকে বিজেপিকে নিশানা করা হয়েছে। ২৮ আগস্ট স্ট্যালিন দলের রাশ হাতে পাওয়ার পর থেকেই ডিএমকে বিজেপির বিরুদ্ধে সুর চড়াচ্ছে। আজ তারা রাফালে ডিল, এনইইটি, বিমুদ্রাকরণ, চলতি আর্থিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে মুখ খোলে। বৈঠকে গৃহীত প্রস্তাবে বলা হয়েছে, বিজেপি সরকার তামিলনাড়ুর স্বার্থ উপেক্ষা করছে। দেশের বহুত্ববাদ ক্ষুন্ন হচ্ছে, সাম্প্রদায়িকতাকে চাঙ্গা করছে ওরা। এমনকী মানবাধিকার কর্মী, বিজেপি বিরোধীদের দেশবিরোধী তকমা পর্যন্ত দেওয়া হচ্ছে। ডিএমকের প্রস্তাবের অভিযোগ, বিজেপির সমালোচনা করা মিডিয়াকে ভয় দেখানো হচ্ছে, দলিত, সংখ্যালঘুদের নিশানা করা হচ্ছে। একটা অঘোষিত জরুরি অবস্থা চলছে। গত ৪ বছরে নির্বাচনী স্বৈরতন্ত্র চাপিয়েছে বিজেপি, জনবিরোধী সরকার চালাচ্ছে।  এটা সংসদীয় গণতন্ত্রের সামনে চ্যালেঞ্জ। নির্বাচন কমিশন, আয়কর দপ্তর, সিবিআইকে মতো প্রতিষ্ঠানকেও বিজেপি নিয়ন্ত্রণ করছে বলে অভিযোগ করে ডিএমকে চলতি বছরের শুরুতে সুপ্রিম কোর্টের চার শীর্ষ বিচারপতির সাংবাদিক বৈঠক ডেকে ক্ষোভ উগরে দেওয়ার উল্লেখ করে বলেছে, বিচারবিভাগেও সঙ্কট চলছে। ডিএমকে এও বলেছে, তড়িঘড়ি নোট বাতিল করা হল, গত বছর চালু হওয়া জিএসটি নিয়েও তালগোল পাকাল। তারা টেনে এনেছে মার্কিন ডলারের তুলনায় টাকার দামের ধারাবাহিক পতনের প্রসঙ্গও যাতে জ্বালানির দাম ও কারেন্ট অ্যাকাউন্টে ঘাটতি বাড়ছে, বলেছে, এসবের ফলে দেশের অর্থনীতি দারুণ মার খেয়েছে। এছাড়া চিরপ্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী এআইএডিএমকের যে সরকার তামিলনাড়ু শাসন করছে, তারা দুর্নীতির ঘাঁটি হয়ে উঠেছে বলে অভিযোগ করে তাকে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করার শপথও নিয়েছে ডিএমকে।

কাশ্মীরে পুলিশ পিকেটে জঙ্গি হামলা, পাল্টা গুলিতে খতম লস্কর জঙ্গি

<strong>শ্রীনগর</strong><strong>: </strong> জম্মু ও কাশ্মীরের অনন্তনাগের পুলিশ ফাঁড়িতে জঙ্গি হামলা। শুক্রবার গভীর রাতে দক্ষিণ কাশ্মীরের ওই জেলার আচাবল এলাকায় পুলিশ টিমের ওপর সন্ত্রাসবাদীরা হামলা করে। তবে পুলিশকর্মীরা তা ব্যর্থ করে দেন। দুপক্ষের গুলির লড়াইয়ে নিহত হয়েছে এক জঙ্গি। তাকে শনাক্ত করা হয়েছে। নিহত জঙ্গি পাশের কুলগাম জেলার তাঁতেপোরা ইয়ারিপোরার বাসিন্দা, নাম বিলাব আহমেদ। পুলিশবাহিনীর জনৈক মুখপাত্র বলেন, মাসতিনেক আগে লস্কর-ই-তৈবায় যোগ দিয়েছিল বিলাল। এর আগের একটি অস্ত্র ছিনতাই মামলায়ও তার যোগাযোগ প্রমাণ হয়েছে। এলাকায় নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর ওপর হামলা ও সাধারণ বাসিন্দাদের ওপর জোরজুলুমেও সে জড়িত ছিল। সংঘর্ষস্থল থেকে বিলালের অস্ত্র উদ্ধার হয়েছে বলে জানান পুলিশ মুখপাত্রটি।  তিনি জানান, জঙ্গিদের সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষে জখম হন এক পুলিশকর্মী। তাঁকে নিকটবর্তী হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখানে তিনি সুস্থ হয়ে উঠছেন। ঘটনাস্থল থেকে দুটি গাড়িও বাজেয়াপ্ত করেছে পুলিশ। সম্ভবত, সেগুলি সন্ত্রাসবাদীদেরই ব্যবহার করা। পুলিশ এ ব্যাপারে মামলা দায়ের করে তদন্ত শুরু করেছে। এদিকে বারামুলার সোপোরে সন্ত্রাসবাদীদের গুলিতে মারা গিয়েছেন হাকিম-উর-রহমান নামে এক নাগরিক। এদিন দুপুরে রেশিপোরা বোমাই এলাকার ওই বাসিন্দাকে টার্গেট করে গুলি চালায় সন্ত্রাসবাদীরা। গুরুতর জখম অবস্থায় তাঁকে স্থানীয় হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া  হয়। সেখানেই মৃত্যু হয় তাঁর। পুলিশ মামলা রুজু করে তদন্ত শুরু করেছে। হাকিম বিচ্ছিন্নতাবাদী গোষ্ঠী হুরিয়ত কনফারেন্সের সদস্য বলে দাবি একটি সূত্রের।

জাতীয় দলের হয়ে ৩ ফর্ম্যাটেই খেলতে চান, জানালেন জাডেজা

<strong>লন্ডন</strong>: একসময় ভারতীয় দলের হয়ে তিন ফর্ম্যাটেই নিয়মিত খেলার সুযোগ পেলেও, বেশ কিছুদিন ধরেই শুধু টেস্ট দলে জায়গা পাচ্ছেন রবীন্দ্র জাডেজা। এবারের ইংল্যান্ড সফরে আবার প্রথম চারটি টেস্টেই খেলার সুযোগ পাননি তিনি। পঞ্চম টেস্টে খেলার সুযোগ পাওয়ার পর এই বাঁ হাতি স্পিনার ও নির্ভরযোগ্য ব্যাটসম্যান জানিয়েছেন, তিনি জাতীয় দলের হয়ে তিন ফর্ম্যাটেই খেলতে চান। জাডেজা বলেছেন, ‘ভারতের হয়ে খেলছি, এটাই আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে বড় বিষয়। যদি কোনওদিন ভাল পারফরম্যান্স দেখাতে পারি, তাহলে তিন ফর্ম্যাটেই খেলার সুযোগ পেতে পারি। সুযোগ পেলে ভাল খেলাই আমার লক্ষ্য। যে কোনও একটি ফর্ম্যাটে খেলার সুযোগ পেলে অসুবিধা হয়। কারণ, একেকটি সিরিজের মাঝে বেশ কিছুদিনের বিরতি থাকে। এর ফলে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে খেলার অভিজ্ঞতা ও ছন্দ নষ্ট হয়ে যায়। এই অবস্থায় সবসময় নিজেকে তৈরি রাখতে হয়। সুযোগ পেলেই নিজের সেরাটা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করতে হয়।’ চলতি টেস্ট সিরিজে প্রথমবার খেলার সুযোগ পেয়ে হতাশ করেননি জাডেজা। এখনও পর্যন্ত তিনি ২৬ ওভার বল করে ৭০ রান দিয়ে ২ উইকেট নিয়েছেন। এই অলরাউন্ডার জানিয়েছেন, দেশের হয়ে খেলার সুযোগ পেলে ব্যাটিংয়ের পাশাপাশি বল হাতেও ভাল পারফরম্যান্স দেখাতে চান।

লন্ডন: ১৭০ বল খেলে ৫০ রান করেছেন, অ্যালিয়েস্টার কুকের সঙ্গে ৭৩ রানের পার্টনারশিপ গড়ে  গতকাল ভারতের বিরুদ্ধে শেষ টেস্টের প্রথম দিনের খেলার শেষে ইংল্যান্ডকে ১৯৮-৭ এ পৌঁছে দিয়ে বিপক্ষের বোলারদের প্রশংসায় সরব মঈন  আলি। ইংল্যান্ড স্পিনার বলছেন, আমি শুধু প্রতিটা বল খেলে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছি। ওরা সত্যিই ভাল বোলিং করেছে। উইকেট ছিল ভীষণ মন্থর। কিন্তু বল কাজ করছিল। আমার চেষ্টা ছিল, যতটা সম্ভব ধৈর্য্য রেখে খেলে যাওয়া। ভারতীয় বোলাররা আমায় মারার তেমন সুযোগ দেয়নি, তাই আমি শুধু ব্যাটটা করার চেষ্টা করেছি। সবসময় এরকম খেলতে পারি না, তবে একটা ভদ্রস্থ জায়গায় পৌঁছই আমরা। আপনি হয়তো সবসময় চাইবেন, ওরা শুধু বল করেই যাক। কিন্তু ওরা একই গতিতে, একই জায়গায় বল করে গেল। আমি যতগুলি সবচেয়ে ভাল বোলিং আক্রমণের সামনে পড়েছি, সেগুলির অন্যতম ভারতের এখনকার বোলিং। কুক ১৯০ বলে ৭১  করেন, কিটন জেনিংসের সঙ্গে ৬০ রান যোগ করেন। ৩৭ রানে জীবন পান একবার। কিন্তু সুযোগটা কাজে লাগল না, শেষ পর্যন্ত সেঞ্চুরি অধরাই  থেকে গেল তাঁর।  মঈন, কুক জুটি কিছুটা দানা বাঁধার পর ৬৫ রানে ৬ উইকেট তুলে নিয়ে ম্যাচ দখলে নেন ভারতের বোলাররা। মঈন বলেছেন, ওর ক্যাচ পড়ে যাওয়ার পর আমি মনে মনে বলি, এ তো তোমার হওয়ার কথা ছিল। একজন কুকের জায়গায় আসবে, চেষ্টা করবে, কাজটা খুব কঠিন হবে।  ওরও অসুবিধা হচ্ছিল, হয়তো এই উইকেট যতটা  সহজ হবে ভেবেছিলাম আমরা, ততটা নয়। উইকেটে কিছু সমস্যা ছিল। মঈন বলেন, একটু নতুন বল মোকাবিলায় আগে যেভাবে তৈরি হতাম, এ সপ্তাহে তা থেকে অন্যরকম প্রস্তুতি নিই। ইংল্যান্ডের হয়ে তিন নম্বরে ব্যাট করার জন্য মানসিক ভাবে তৈরি হওয়ার সময় মেলে এতে। জানি আমার ক্যাচ পড়েছে, খেলেছি, মিসও করেছি, কিন্তু শুধু ব্যাট করার চেষ্টা করেছি। আমি সবসময়ই আত্মবিশ্বাসী। ভালো খেলোয়াড় সবসময়ই আছেন, হতে পারে আপনি জানেন না। অবশ্যই এমন বিপর্যয় হোক, আমরা চাই না। গতকাল মঈন খেলেছেন, বেশ  কয়েকবার মিস করেছেন। তবে ভারতের বোলারদের, বিশেষ করে মহম্মদ সামিকে নিরাশ করেছেন বলে খোঁচা না মেরে।

শিকাগো: শিকাগোয় আরএসএসের বিশ্ব হিন্দু কংগ্রেসের সভায় লাভ জিহাদের শিকার বলে সরাসরি তুলে ধরা হল অভিনেত্রী শর্মিলা ঠাকুরকে। তাঁর ছবি দেখিয়ে বলা হয়েছে, প্রয়াত প্রাক্তন ক্রিকেটার মনসুর আলি খান পতৌদির সঙ্গে তাঁর বিয়ে লাভ জিহাদ ছাড়া কিছু নয়। একই সঙ্গে এই প্রসঙ্গে উঠে এসেছে শর্মিলা পুত্র সেফ আলি খানের প্রাক্তন ও বর্তমান পত্নী অমৃতা সিংহ ও করিনা কপূরের নামও। আগামী লোকসভা ভোটের কথা মাথায় রেখে সব দলই শুরু করেছে নিজেদের মত করে প্রস্তুতি। বিশ্ব হিন্দু কংগ্রেসের সভায় গতকাল সরসঙ্ঘচালক মোহন ভাগবত স্পষ্ট ভাষায় হিন্দুদের রক্ষা করার কথা বলেছেন। হিন্দুদের একজোট হওয়ার কথা বলে তিনি বলেছেন, বাঘ যদি একা থাকে তবে একদল বুনো কুকুর এক সঙ্গে আক্রমণ করে তাকে হারিয়ে দিতে পারে। তাই একজোট হওয়া জরুরি। কিন্তু কংগ্রেসে লাভ জিহাদের শিকার হিসেবে শর্মিলা ঠাকুরের নাম উল্লেখ হওয়ায় বিতর্ক শুরু হয়। মোহন ভাগবতের সামনেই বলা হয়, হিন্দুদের এখন বড় বিপদ লাভ জিহাদ, শর্মিলা ঠাকুরের মুসলমানের সঙ্গে বিয়ে হওয়া তারই উদাহরণ। শর্মিলাকেও ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করতে হয়, নাম পালটে রাখা হয় আয়েষা সুলতানা। তাঁর সন্তানদের নামও আরবী, তাঁরা বেড়ে উঠেছেন সম্পূর্ণ ইসলামীয় পদ্ধতিতে। শর্মিলা-পতৌদির বড় ছেলে সেফের প্রথম বিয়ে অমৃতা সিংহের সঙ্গে। সে কথা উল্লেখ করে বিশ্ব হিন্দু কংগ্রেসে বলা হয়, তাঁকেও ইসলাম গ্রহণ করতে হয়। তারপর সেফ তাঁকে ডিভোর্স দেন। এবার তিনি বিয়ে করেছেন করিনা কপূরকে। প্রশ্ন উঠেছে, করিনাও কি শেষ পর্যন্ত ধর্ম পরিবর্তনে বাধ্য হবেন? তাঁর ছেলে তৈমুরকে কি হিন্দুধর্মের সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে দেওয়া হবে? বিষয়টি তুলেছেন দিলীপ আমিন নামে এক হিন্দু নেতা। এবিপি আনন্দ তাঁর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করলে তিনি বলেন, ধর্ম পরিবর্তন করতে হলে বুঝে সুঝে করা উচিত। অন্য ধর্ম যদি ভাল লাগে তবেই তা গ্রহণ কর। কিন্তু কেউ যদি বিয়ের প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়ে ধর্মান্তরণে চাপ দেয় তবে তা অন্যায়। এভাবে ধর্ম পরিবর্তন বেআইনি।

One of 1998’s biggest tech stories was the massive antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft. It’s Monopoly Week on The Verge, so I wrote a bit about that lawsuit’s place in the ‘90s legal landscape. I’m in the middle of reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time after being a huge fan of the 2005 film adaptation for at least a couple years. It’s been fascinating to see the differences between the book and the movie (what they cut, the lines they shifted around, how they adapted a multipage explanatory letter into a dramatic scene). But the thing that’s stood out to me the most is just how inseparable the actors’ performances have become from the lines I’m reading on the page.

Rocket Has A Lot To Lose In Depressing Avengers: Infinity War Fan Art

Much has been written about the various tragic journeys of the super-powered protagonists of Avengers: Infinity War. As well as half the cast turning to dust as a result of Thanos’ finger-snap, it’s hard not to feel for some of the survivors left to contemplate their failure and the loss of their loved ones in the aftermath.

But amidst all this devastation, one character whose pain often gets overlooked is Guardians of the Galaxy star Rocket Raccoon, whose friend Gamora is among the first major characters to die in the picture, before the rest of his colleagues are disintegrated in the genocidal climax. It’s a tragedy that’s foreshadowed in an early exchange between between Thor and his new ‘rabbit’ friend, and has now been spotlighted in this depressing new image posted to Reddit.

Rocket mutters the deceptively comical line after the God of Thunder claims that he has nothing left to lose, unaware of how resonant those words would eventually become.

Avengers 4 is going back before the cameras for the now-typical reshoot period, and set photos from filming in Atlanta have given us some idea of how the surviving heroes will appear in the follow-up to this year’s universe-shattering Infinity War. For instance, Jeremy Renner has provided us with our best look yet at the new mohawk Hawkeye will be sporting in the movie.

Speaking of hairstyles, one snap featuring Scarlet Johansson in character as Black Widow confirms that the super spy will return to her more familiar redhead look for Avengers 4, moving on from the blonde bob she had for Infinity War. As captured by Just Jared, the actress can be seen with long auburn hair through the window of what looks to be a diner. Natasha Romanoff’s hairdo update was previously promised by a piece of leaked Avengers 4 concept art that featured all of the remaining heroes, with most of them sporting revamped appearances. Widow, for instance, was depicted as wearing a classic black catsuit with her red hair in a ponytail. Captain America, meanwhile, was back in his classic costume with a clean-shaven face and blonde hair. Like Johansson, Chris Evans has also been spotted on set closely matching the character’s look in the concept art.

We haven’t seen Brie Larson return for reshoots yet, despite Captain Marvel being expected to play a major role in the proceedings, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any further set pics that may surface over the coming weeks.
