The Conjuring 3 Writer Says It Isn’t Just Another Haunted House Movie

One of the few shared universes that have managed to become successful besides the MCU is Universal’s Conjuring franchise. The Conjuring was a massive hit back in 2013 and has since spawned multiple spinoff series including Annabelle, The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona. Say what you will of the quality of them, but they’ve made Universal a lot of money.

So, it comes as no surprise that The Conjuring 3 will be arriving soon and according to writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the sequel will not be just another haunted house movie like the two previous entries in the series.

He confirmed as much via a fan question on Twitter saying the new Conjuring will be a “completely different movie than the first two” and that “The franchise is expanding beyond the ‘haunted house’ formula.”

From what we know so far, the story will revolve around a murder trial with Ed and Lorraine Warren playing key roles in the investigation. Star Patrick Wilson’s echoed Johnson-McGoldrick’s sentiments about a new direction for the franchise as well and Vera Farmiga has teased a bigger movie than previously seen from the series.

While it will be refreshing to see The Conjuring going in a different direction, James Wan won’t be directing this time. Instead, Llorona helmer Michael Chaves is taking over, which is concerning considering that film was so poorly received. But at this stage, we’re inclined to give the studio the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this particular franchise.

In any case, horror movies will always be profitable as they’re cheap to make and don’t require a massive box office haul to turn a profit. The Conjuring 3 will be no different, of course, but we just hope that the high level of quality from the first two films is retained even despite Wan’s absence behind the camera.

Evangeline Lilly’s Ant-Man 3 Role May Be Reduced Due To Coronavirus Comments

You can’t have missed the controversy surrounding MCU star Evangeline Lilly over the past few days, given her – let’s say – atypical reaction to the coronavirus outbreak. The actress, known for playing Hope Van Dyne in the Ant-Man movies, has revealed on social media that she’s not practicing social distancing, as is recommended by authorities worldwide, as she doesn’t want to impact on her freedom of movement. Ironically, though, her views may end up seriously restricting her screentime in Ant-Man 3

We Got This Covered has heard from sources – the same ones who told us a She-Hulk show is coming to Disney Plus and that Ahsoka Tano will cameo in The Mandalorian season 2, both of which we now know to be true – that the studio is seriously upset with Lilly’s attitude and, probably more importantly, the social media storm that she’s whipped up. Many are calling for her to be removed from the MCU, in fact, particularly given her worrying comments that suggest she believes COVID-19 is a hoax.

From what we understand, Marvel is now considering doing as these people are asking and letting Lilly go after her current contract expires. For the immediate future, however, it seems her role in Ant-Man 3 will be reduced, which would be be a big come-down for the actress, following Ant-Man and the Wasp making her the first leading superheroine of the franchise. Still, we know that Marvel pays close attention to Twitter outrage – see: James Gunn’s temporary removal from Guardians 3 – so this would make sense for them to do.

Given where Ant-Man 3 may end up going, story-wise, shuffling Hope into a supporting role could probably be done pretty organically, too. Avengers: Endgame aged up Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie, so presumably she’ll take after her dad and become Stature in the threequel. As such, Emma Fuhrmann could easily step up and become Paul Rudd’s new partner in crime-fighting instead of Lilly.

Of course, the Gunn situation did a complete 180 degree turn when he was eventually rehired, so it’s possible that Lilly could end up back in Marvel’s good books, too. Maybe if she publicly switches her position on the issue and defuses all the online negativity, it’ll do the trick. Unless that happens, though, it’s looking like Wasp fans should expect less screentime for the character when Ant-Man 3 arrives sometime in 2022.

Spider-Man Fans Are Freaking Out Over Tom Holland’s Self-Quarantine

This weekend, Tom Holland gave fans a bit of a scare as he took to Instagram Live to reveal that he’s come down with an illness. Given the current health crisis, everyone’s assuming he may have contracted coronavirus, though the Spider-Man star himself notes that he doesn’t think that’s what he’s got – but he isn’t sure.

As sad as it is that Holland isn’t feeling well, at least he’s bringing people a lot of joy with his social media updates while he’s in self-quarantine. And the result is that the internet is kind of losing it over the whole situation.

On the one hand, many are getting worried for the British actor’s health.

COVID-19, you (might) have gone too far this time!

We were all flat Squidward when we saw Holland’s name trending.

At least the actor is keeping up his usual quirky sense of humor during his self-isolation. This reply to an infatuated fan is particularly on point:

For some folks, Holland’s livestream was a bit of an information overload. Wait, what was that about a chicken?

Yes, it’s true, Tom Holland really did buy himself a chicken because he couldn’t find any eggs in his local stores. Why haven’t the rest of us thought of that quick-fix?

Mixed emotions all-round.

Spider-Man: Work From Home, coming to a theater near you never.

Remember, in this difficult time, we must all follow the latest expert medical advice. Just like Tom Holland, we should all be self-quarantining with a chicken.

The Avengers: Endgame actor’s latest project is Pixar’s Onward. What with the pandemic forcing many cinemas to close though, Disney has made the film available to watch on VOD earlier than usual, so you can catch it from the comfort of your own home now. Meanwhile, he next returns to the MCU in Spider-Man 3, coming next summer.

Feel better soon, Tom Holland!
