Even if they don’t end up appearing in that movie, it’s looking very likely that Sony and Marvel have plans to bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of the wallcrawler soon, with negotiations potentially already underway.
Various reports are pointing in this direction, and the latest intriguing tidbit comes from insider Daniel Richtman. Richtman has shared a new bite-sized piece of info, but one that has huge implications, on his Patreon page. He’s heard that Maguire’s Peter Parker, whenever he returns, will be portrayed as a dad and will have a son. Richtman is currently classifying this as a rumor, which probably means he’s unable to corroborate it with another source right now, but this is exciting to hear all the same.
Peter and Mary Jane have had various kids in alternate continuities, but it was their baby son Benjy from the MC2 continuity who proved key to the original Spider-Verse comic book event. Given how important Uncle Ben was to Maguire’s webhead, and how key father/son relationships were to that trilogy overall, it would make a lot of sense to give him a son named Ben if/when he comes back. Plus it suggests some concepts from the comic will be lifted to the screen.
Assuming the mother is MJ, this would also finally wrap up the dangling threads of 2007’s Spider-Man 3, which ended with an unspoken reconciliation between the couple after the traumatic events of the film, but left it ambiguous whether they would be able to get past them and make it work. But, if this intriguing rumor turns out to be the case, then we’ll finally learn that they got back together and started a family.
As for exactly where we’ll learn this, it could happen in Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange 2 or maybe a live-action Spider-Verse movie. Who wants to see Maguire back as Parker, this time with a Spidey Jr. by his side? Have your say in the comments.
It seems like everybody who’s anybody in the DC universe has a chance of coming back in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Reshoots are underway now, with the principal cast returning to shoot new scenes for the incoming HBO Max redo of the team-up movie, and they’ll be joined by a few familiar faces. Jared Leto is back as the Joker, for instance, as is Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke and probably Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
There’s also been persistent chatter that Ryan Reynolds could, against all the odds, return as Hal Jordan, who he of course first played in 2011’s notorious Green Lantern movie. The Deadpool star himself has had fun playfully stoking these flames on Twitter, but some new intel claims that his interest in the project actually runs deeper. According to Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph, Reynolds “REALLY wants to do” Justice League and is currently working out a deal with Warner Bros. to cameo in the film. The only hitch is apparently scheduling around his many work commitments.

The Green Lantern Corps were briefly represented in the theatrical Justice League, by the presence of one alien Lantern quickly dying during the ancient battle flashback scene. We’ve always known that Snyder had a slightly bigger cameo for the Lanterns planned, with a couple of Emerald Knights dropping to Earth in Batman’s backyard in a post-credits scene. Could this be revamped with Reynolds’ Jordan saying hi to Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne?
Once upon a time, the idea of Ryan Reynolds coming back as Green Lantern under any circumstances would’ve sounded ridiculous, let alone in something as gritty and serious as a Snyder production. But the fact that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is being made in the first place is so unprecedented that it feels like anything possible with this film. We’ll just have to wait for more info to see whether this particular unlikely event actually happens.
The internet went into meltdown earlier this year when it was announced that Michael Keaton would be returning to play Batman in The Flash, which will arrive 30 years after he last donned the cape and cowl. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the 69 year-old was also reported to have signed a lengthy contract with the studio, and given his age, that surely only meant one thing.
Yes, Keaton is at the perfect point in his life to play the older version of Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond, and fans have wanted a live-action adaptation to happen for decades now. It almost came to fruition following Batman & Robin before Warner Bros. got cold feet at such a drastic reinvention for one of their biggest properties, and instead sent the Caped Crusader into hibernation until Christopher Nolan came along.
Even before Keaton became involved with The Flash, though, we’d heard that he was being eyed for a return to the world of superhero blockbusters, and there’s clearly room for plenty of Batmen in the DCEU given that Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson are both involved as well. In fact, Small Screen is now claiming that while Batman Beyond is still on the table, it may end up as an HBO Max series rather than a feature film. But either way, Keaton will indeed return for it.
In all honesty, that probably makes the most sense, too. After all, the episodic format would give casual fans more time to sink their teeth into a wildly different Dark Knight story than the ones they’ve become accustomed to, while the actor wouldn’t be forced to take center stage. Regardless, Batman Beyond seems almost inevitable at this point, and whether it comes to the big or small screen, one thing that can be guaranteed is that it will go down a storm with the fanbase.

Whether you think it was due to Thor not going for the head or Peter Quill losing his chill over Gamora’s death, the gang had many chances to stop Thanos and didn’t. Incidentally, one of these involved T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, tasked with taking the Mind Stone out of Vision without killing him as the rest of the team stopped the enemies from advancing into Wakanda.
We never learned why she wasn’t able to do it in time, but a new in-universe book, The Wakanda Files, finally reveals what happened in those defining moments. In her logs, the Wakandan scientist first hypothesizes about how Vision came to be, noting:
“I conducted a full san of Vision’s entire framework and anatomy, including the Mind Stone. His structure was polymorphic, composed of overlapping layers of neurons out of sequence rather than reprogramming the synapses to work collectively. Despite the somewhat primitive and forceful way that he was constructed, Vision was quite elegant.”
Shuri further details Vision’s powers, including levitation, flight and even conjuring matter from thin air. As for why she was unable to retrieve the Mind Stone, the princess says that the task was almost impossible, writing:
“Two trillion neurons connected the Mind Stone to Vision’s processing neural network. Of course, they tasked me with removing those trillions of connections and rerouting them in the middle of a battle so that the stone could be destroyed. A task I was sadly unable to perform in time.”
Had she been given enough time, then, she may have succeeded in removing the stone in Avengers: Infinity War. But since Thanos already had the Time Stone anyway, it wouldn’t have really made a difference when you think about it.
