Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is now out and a consensus is building that it’s a love letter to fans. Positive reviews praise director Johannes Roberts for fulfilling his promise of bringing some genuine horror, complete with a plethora of characters, monsters, and references that make the film a treat for fans of Capcom’s franchise. If you’re not a Resident Evil aficionado, though… mileage may vary.

That’s certainly the case for the credits scene, which will delight long-term fans yet alienate anyone who doesn’t know where all this is going.

Fans are going nuts for the ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ prologue

Universal gifted us with a most unexpected surprise yesterday, when the five-minute prologue for Jurassic World: Dominion that originally screened this summer before IMAX showings of Fast & Furious 9 was made available online in its entirety.

Given that the concluding chapter in the trilogy and sixth overall installment in the franchise isn’t coming to theaters until June of next year, nobody was expecting the footage to drop, but fans are certainly glad that it did. As the sequel to a pair of epic blockbusters that combined to earn close to $3 billion at the box office, it would be an understatement to say that Dominion is poised to do similarly bumper business.

‘Shang-Chi’ stunt performer calls him the most annoying Avenger

While the bus sequence may have drawn the ire of an operator who went on a lengthy viral thread pointing out all of the mistakes and inaccuracies on display in the bruising hand-to-hand scrap, fans were fully supportive of how Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings handled the action.

Admittedly, the third act was arguably the weakest set piece of the bunch after it sidelined star Simu Liu’s natural talent for kicking ass in favor of the standard CGI overload we’ve come to expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but up until that point each battle was designed, shot and edited in completely different fashion to distinguish them from both each other, and the rest of the franchise’s oeuvre.

There’s carnage on Twitter as ‘Venom’ sequel hits VOD

Even with the pandemic lurking in the background, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was always destined to become one of the biggest hits to arrive in theaters since the beginning of 2020, with the first movie gaining a fanbase that didn’t care a single iota for the lukewarm reception afforded to it by critics.

True to form, Andy Serkis’ sequel performed exactly in line with its predecessor on that front, even if Tom Hardy’s second symbiotic outing fared much better than Ruben Fleischer’s opener. A Rotten Tomatoes score of 59% was right on the threshold of being Fresh, but it was comfortably outstripped by the 84% user rating.

We’re getting the Pompeii supernatural action thriller we didn’t know we needed

As per Deadline, Kellie Madison has signed on to direct an untitled supernatural thriller that revolves around some kind of geothermic explosion that occurs within the ruins of Pompeii. That’s about as much information as has been provided, but it sounds like the sort of wild genre film that’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Kelsey Grammer says he’d love to play Beast again

As far as on-point casting goes, you can’t argue with Kelsey Grammer being hired to play Hank McCoy in the X-Men franchise, with the performance essentially requiring an extension of his Frasier persona, albeit with the caveat of spending hours in the makeup chair to be turned into a big, blue, furry mutant.

Despite how well-suited he was for the role, Grammer didn’t get much opportunity to make an impact as part of the superhero franchise. His screentime in both The Last Stand and Days of Future Past was limited, but he still did enough to leave an impression, even if Nicholas Hoult put his own stamp on the character as the younger version.
