Star Wars: Episode IX Reportedly Features More Deaths Than You’d Expect
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to bring the franchise’s current era to a close, and if reports from various anonymous and not-so-anonymous sources are anything to go by, then director J.J. Abrams aims to go big for this final installment, both in terms of emotions and spectacle.
A similarly ambitious picture is painted by a new Reddit report that’s been getting an unusual amount of positive attention. Relaying a conversation had with an alleged source, user arcantiger apparently heard it said that the “sheer scale” of the upcoming trilogy-closer rivals that of Return of the King, and that this enthusiasm for the production is “shared across the board.” Kylo Ren’s arc in particular is singled out as a highlight, though the rumors of his uncle Luke coming back from the dead are dismissed as “nonsense.” In fact, it’s alleged that both Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian only have “small roles” in the film.
But while none of the above claims are particularly surprising, perhaps the most interesting part of the report is the assertion that the movie features “more deaths than you would expect,” including some that people may not be predicting.

Obviously, this is all just hearsay for the time being, but intriguing hearsay nonetheless. Though many of us are already expecting Kylo Ren to kick the bucket in this next picture, you have to wonder if a sad fate could be awaiting one of the young heroes like Rey or Finn.
Alternatively, imagine the teary-eyed response that Star Wars: Episode IX would get if Abrams dared to kill off one of the Original Trilogy’s more light-hearted players like R2-D2 or Chewbacca. In any case, we’ve got plenty of time to speculate before the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.

Shazam!’s Post-Credits Scene Has Been Revealed
With Shazam! just a few weeks away from reaching cinemas, current signs indicate that the DCEU might well have another hit on their hands, and should Billy Batson’s solo debut do as well as expected, it sounds like Warner Bros. may already have an idea of where they want to take the saga next. Bear in mind that some potential spoilers lie ahead.
According to a source close to We Got This Covered, Shazam! ends things with a mandatory post-credits tease that hints at a new foe entering the fray. As you likely know already, Billy’s first movie features Dr. Thaddeus Sivana as the main antagonist, but by the end of the film, it’s said that the villain has been thrown in jail. While sitting in his cell, Sivana reportedly receives a visit from the diabolical Venusian worm Mister Mind, who tells the doctor that they need to talk about the Seven Realms.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time in the film that Mister Mind shows up. If previous reports are anything to go by, then Shazam! also features a flashback of Dr. Sivana entering the wizard’s cave, where sees his fellow villain in a glass case. In the present day, however, the case is allegedly broken, indicating that Mister Mind has escaped.
In any case, that’s what we’ve been told, and it’s less than a month now before we can see for ourselves what last-minute teases Shazam! has in store, including whether or not that long-rumored Superman cameo is actually happening. Either way though, the reception from early viewers suggests that Billy Batson’s solo debut could get the hero’s DCEU run off to a respectable start when it arrives in theaters in just a few weeks, on April 5th.

Rupert Wyatt Blames The Fantastic Four Movie For Gambit Delay
Though the Gambit movie has gone through many directors over the years, the one who arguably came closest to getting the cameras rolling for this long-gestating project was Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmsman Rupert Wyatt. And if you’re wondering why the filmmaker couldn’t go all the way with the movie, his answer is a familiar menace of recent superhero cinema, the 2015 Fantastic Four.
To this day, director Josh Trank laments how his take on Marvel’s first family turned out, and in an interview with The Beat, Wyatt didn’t seem to thrilled with the results either, recalling how the movie’s lackluster box office performance essentially prevented Gambit from going into production:
“I was very close with Channing Tatum and his producing partner Reid Carolin, and I was on the script with him and Josh Zetumer as a writer. We were close, I believe 10 weeks away. It simply came down to budget. There was not enough. You know all too well about the politics of the business. Fantastic Four had been released by Fox a month before and had not gone well for them, so our budget was slashed quite considerably. The inevitable, from my perspective was, ‘Well then we need to rewrite the script to tailor to our budget,’ but we were too close to a start date for Fox to really want to go there, so unfortunately, it just didn’t work out.”

Since the Gambit movie slipped out of Wyatt’s hands, the film has faced multiple delays, and the impending Disney/Fox merger might well prove to be the final nail in the coffin. Just last month, longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that the project is no longer in development, though she did add that it’s ultimately up to Disney to decide what happens with the flick. And though Wyatt is no longer attached to the movie, he still hopes that Channing Tatum will be allowed to wield the staff some day:
“All I know is Channing had a really, really wonderful idea for what that film could and should be. I know he and Reid are still plugging away at it, so I hope in the new Disney era, that then they get to make it.”
Though the Disney/Fox deal is expected to close later this month, it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will confirm anything about the future of Gambit at least until after Avengers: Endgame brings the MCU’s current era to a close when it comes out next month. But with the future of the franchise looking busy enough already, don’t be surprised if this ends up being one more Fox project that ultimately slips through the cracks.
