Spider-Man: No Way Home Hi-Res Images Showcase Doctor Strange

The first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a long time coming, and looking at how the internet reacted when the footage finally dropped last night, all those false dawns and misplaced bouts of anticipation were well worth the wait.

While the promo didn’t give away too much other than the basic setup, some teases of what’s to come and the stinger that revealed spoiler merchant Alfred Molina in all of his glory as Sam Raimi’s returning Doctor Octopus, it did confirm how the multiverse ends up factoring into the narrative.

Despite being explicitly warned by Wong not to do it, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange decides that he knows best and decides to try and erase the world’s knowledge of Peter Parker’s secret identity from the collective consciousness. Naturally, things don’t go to plan, and it’s a plot thread that seems as though it won’t be resolved by the time No Way Home fades to black given what we know about the Sorcerer Supreme’s upcoming solo sequel.

Sony have now released a pair of brand new HD images showcasing the Master of the Mystic arts’ involvement in the web-slinging threequel, which you can check out below.

Doctor Strange’s cockiness has always been one of his major flaws, and now that Tony Stark is out of the picture he could find himself established as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most arrogant hero. As a result, he makes the perfect sparring partner for Tom Holland’s wide-eyed and motor-mouthed Peter in Spider-Man: No Way Home, especially when he’s filling the mentorship void vacated by the erstwhile Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame.

First Footage From Brad Pitt Actioner Bullet Train Screens At CinemaCon

Sony have been struggling heavily with the effects of the pandemic, partly due to the fact the studio is the only one of Hollywood’s ‘Big Five’ outfits that doesn’t own or operate an in-house streaming service, but you wouldn’t have noticed looking at the fanfare that greeted the first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer when it finally dropped yesterday.

Having either sold off or seriously delayed the majority of this year’s titles, 2021 isn’t going to go down in the history books as one of Sony’s best ever. However, one action-packed blockbuster definitely worth keeping an eye on based on nothing but the high concept premise and talent involved is Bullet Train, which is penciled in to hit theaters on April 8th, 2022.

John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch helms the star-studded adaptation of Kōtarō Isaka’s novel Maria Beetle, and the cast is absolutely stacked from top to bottom. Brad Pitt takes his first leading role in a straightforward actioner since 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, with the plot following a group of assassins on the titular mode of transport who soon discover that their individual assignments are all connected.

As well as Pitt, Bullet Train also features Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock and many more, with the first footage premiering exclusively at CinemaCon.

While it reportedly offered little more than Pitt’s character Ladybug and Bad Bunny scrapping at close quarters, it’s said to deliver Leitch’s signature method of intricately choreographed and highly stylized violence. Looking at the cast and logline alone, though, Bullet Train is a project well worth getting hyped for.

Marlon Wayans Starring In New Netflix Halloween Comedy

Marlon Wayans is no stranger to either the horror comedy or Netflix original content, so it was only a matter of time before the two joined forces to create an in-house movie designed specifically to premiere right around the spookiest time of the year.

As well as co-creating, co-writing and starring in the first two installments of the Scary Movie franchise, Wayans also headlined A Haunted House and its sequel, which were widely panned by critics but still combined to earn $84 million at the box office on total production costs of just $6.5 million.

a-haunted-house-2

On the world’s most popular streaming service his sitcom Marlon was distributed and marketed internationally as a Netflix project, while he also starred in the platform’s Sextuplets and Naked. He’s now set to take top billing and produce a Halloween comedy to be directed by Kick-Ass 2‘s Jeff Wadlow, no stranger to the company himself having helmed Kevin James’ True Memoirs of an International Assassin back in 2016.

The plot follows a teenage girl who accidentally unleashes an ancient evil spirit on Halloween that causes holiday decorations to come to life and cause chaos, where she enlists the help of her disbelieving father as played by Wayans. With no title or start date for production announced as of yet, it seems unlikely we’ll be seeing the movie this year, but the success of Adam Sandler’s Hubie Halloween proved that there’s a place for these types of films on Netflix.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Star Says He’s Excited To See Tobey Maguire

As you may have noticed, the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home dropped yesterday, and it’s already generated fervent speculation across every corner of the internet. Fans were dissecting the footage frame-by-frame from the very second it ended, and we’ve already been inundated with potential sightings of countless heroes and villains.

Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus was the only one who made an appearance in-person, but that hasn’t stopped folks from squinting their eyes and believing they may have spied Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, while there’s a ton of people on social media who apparently have a very good idea of what Charlie Cox’s hands look like.

Ironically, Jamie Foxx was nowhere to be seen in the trailer even though he was the first multiversal returnee announced for the cast almost a year ago, but there was no chance Sony and Marvel Studios were ever going to reveal whether or not Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were involved in the very first promo spot.

At this stage, everyone’s expecting the former incumbents of the spandex to swing by, even though neither studio has ever promised us anything of the sort. In a new interview, the Spider-Man franchise’s Mr. Dell may have let the cat out of the bag, after actor JB Smoove was asked which Spidey he was most excited to see Tom Holland sharing the screen with, to which he replied “Tobey Maguire, of course.”

While that’s far from an official confirmation and Smoove is hardly one of the most pivotal cogs in the Spider-Man: No Way Home machine, if the cast are coming out with soundbites like that without fear of Kevin Feige’s reprisal then maybe there’s something to it.

MCU Fans Worried For Elizabeth Olsen After She Supports Scarlett Johansson

It isn’t quite dominating the headlines to the extent it was a few weeks back, but the battle between Scarlett Johansson and Disney over her Black Widow lawsuit is still bubbling away in the background. It’s devolved into schoolyard name-calling in some respects, with the Mouse House’s representatives at various points blasting the actress for being greedy and calling her legal action a PR stunt.

Nobody’s obligated to publicly pick sides in situations like these, but Dune director Denis Villenueve fully backed the longtime Natasha Romanoff, which isn’t much of a surprise when he’s been highly critical of Warner Bros. sending the entire slate of 2021 movies to HBO Max the same day they hit theaters.

Elizabeth Olsen is the latest high profile name to offer her support to Johansson, answering with a simple “good for her” when asked for her thoughts on the Black Widow debacle. As you can see from the reactions below, though, some Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are worried that there could end up being repercussions for the star.

At the end of the day, Olsen is under contract with Marvel Studios and not Disney, similar to Johansson, and the latter has no issues with Kevin Feige or his team when it was the outfit’s parent company that made the Premier Access call. Besides, Scarlet Witch is established as the franchise’s most powerful character and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is just seven months away from release, so it’s probably safe to assume the Emmy nominated WandaVision lead will be just fine.

Hugh Jackman Is Thrilled Real Steel Found New Life On Netflix

It would be an understatement to say that a lot of strange things happened in 2020, so by the standards of the year, forgotten robot boxing blockbuster Real Steel finding an incredible new lease of life on Netflix is far from the most bizarre scenario to have unfolded over a largely rotten twelve months.

However, making a surprise appearance in the Top 10 most-watched list at the end of September and refusing to budge for weeks on end was an unexpected development nonetheless. The high concept family film stars Hugh Jackman as a terrible father who essentially tries to sell his son so he doesn’t have to raise him, before it pivots into a thinly-veiled Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots riff.

On paper that doesn’t sound like a whimsical adventure, but subscribers couldn’t get enough of it. A decade after earning just a shade under $300 million at the box office and earning solid-if-unspectacular reviews, all of a sudden Jackman and director Shawn Levy were finding themselves getting asked about sequels.

In a new interview, Jackman addressed the resurgence of interest in Real Steel, and admitted he was thrilled that the movie had found a place in the hearts of audiences all over the world ten years after first hitting theaters.

“By the way, recently quite a lot, we’re being asked about it. Because during the pandemic, apparently, it was very very highly watched, and it was really nice. A huge hit, like ten years later, Shawn Levy said, ‘Dude, do you see what’s happening out there?’, and I said, ‘No, I don’t see anything’. But it’s really nice to know that a movie which I really loved at the time, a lot of people come up to me in the street and tell me they love that movie. Lots of dads love it. And so it’s really nice to see it get its due. It was just one of the most fun. Working with Shawn on anything is the best, and we remain really good friends.

Real Steel

Levy is riding high at the moment coming off the back of Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy, while Jackman could do with a hit after sci-fi mystery thriller Reminiscence flopped hard this past weekend. The filmmaker teased that he wants Reynolds for any potential second installment, and there’s clearly a lot of people ready to embrace another chapter if anyone steps in to fund the project.

Birds Of Prey Spinoff For Huntress Rumored To Be In The Works

Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad may have earned less money, but Birds of Prey could arguably still be called the DCEU’s biggest-ever box office bomb seeing as it didn’t have a global pandemic to contend with. Cathy Yan’s pulpy actioner may have just about edged past a $200 million haul, but it almost instantly found a second life as a firm cult favorite.

Star and producer Margot Robbie made a double-quick return to the fold when she reprised her role as Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad almost immediately after Birds of Prey had wrapped, but plenty of questions were being asked about what the future held for the rest of the roster.

We recently got one answer when it was announced a few days ago that Jurnee Smollett would be returning as Black Canary for a solo outing that’ll stream exclusively on HBO Max, and a new rumor claims that Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress is now in line for the same treatment. No other information or details are provided, but GFR did break the Black Canary news before it went public, so the scuttlebutt shouldn’t be written off by any means.

If anyone else other than Harley and Dinah Lance were capable of taking top billing in their own project, then Winstead’s Helena Bertinelli is the obvious candidate. Not only is she a vigilante highly trained in hand-to-hand and weaponized combat, but the actress is no stranger to the action genre having previously showcased her talents in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Death Proof, Gemini Man and Netflix’s upcoming thriller Kate. If the DCEU is planning to expand even further onto HBO Max, then Huntress is far from the worst idea we’ve ever heard.
