Marvel Founding New Studio For Animated Projects

Nobody’s going to deny that when it comes to live-action franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe can’t be touched. Not only has the interconnected superhero saga earned over twice as much money at the box office as any other multi-film series, but every single one of the 24 installments to date has turned a profit and wound up with a Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The facts make it clear the MCU is the biggest game in town, but it would also be fair to say that the outfit is a long way away from conquering animation in the same fashion. The DC Animated Universe has been winning acclaim from critics and fans dating back three decades, while Star Wars has been delivering top quality shows like The Clone Wars, Rebels and latterly The Bad Batch for years now.

Even Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Fast & Furious Spy Racers are three and five seasons deep respectively, but the MCU is finally entering the fray in just a few weeks when the hotly-anticipated What If…? starts rolling out on Disney Plus. There’s already been plenty of talk the adaptation of the the popular comic book fantasies will be getting multiple seasons, but in a new interview Marvel’s Executive Vice President of Film Production Victoria Alonso revealed that an entirely new studio will be founded, specifically to focus on animated output.

“We’re going to have our animation branch and mini studio, and there will be more to come from that as well. We’re super excited about animation, which is my first love.”

As Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer who oversees the film, television and comic book slate, it sounds as though Kevin Feige’s plate is going to be getting fuller than ever. We’ve heard rumblings in the past of Marvel Animation Studios becoming a reality, and it looks as though it’ll be the base of operations for a slew of Disney Plus exclusive content.

Paul Walker Fought To Bring Back Tyrese For Fast & Furious 5

It took a decade for the Fast & Furious franchise to figure out what it wanted to be, and it’s a minor miracle it even survived long enough to evolve into the blockbuster behemoth we all know and love to day, with the recent ninth installment taking it past Fox’s X-Men to become the fifth highest-grossing film series in history.

The Fast and the Furious was a mid budget street-level racing thriller heavily indebted to Point Break, before sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious dropped almost the entire cast with the exception of Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner. Tokyo Drift was largely unconnected and took the property in another different direction, before the original quartet reunited for the fourth movie, which set the ball rolling towards Justin Lin’s landmark Fast Five.

Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce has become one of the most important cogs in The Fast Saga‘s well-oiled machine, and F9 saw him bumped up to third billing in the credits behind stalwarts Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, so he’s clearly a hugely valued member of the ensemble.

However, in a new interview, Tyrese revealed that there was a great deal of hesitation to bring him back for Fast Five, but Walker was there to fight his corner and lobby the studio, producers and even Diesel for his inclusion.

“Paul knew that there was a bit of an obstacle that we had to get through in order for us to all band together for Fast Five. I mean, I get emotional when I think about this guy; for damn near three movies, he kept begging and pleading and trying to talk to the studio and directors and Vin, ‘Yo, we got to get Tyrese back’. I finally came back for Five, and it was a fight, man. I think there was some type of spoken but yet unspoken tension in and around Roman Pearce, and where do I fit in? And I think after hanging out with a Vin a few times before we did Five, he realized quickly that I’m more of an asset, and there’s way more upside to what I’m bringing to the franchise over it ever even remotely being considered competition or anything that anybody should be worried about.”

2 fast 2 furious

F9 saw Tyrese’s character make a subtle shift from comic relief to the guy who points out the ridiculousness of the scenarios the crew keep finding themselves in, and he’s one step away from talking directly to the camera. It’s hard to imagine Fast & Furious without him at this stage, and following Walker’s passing in 2013 he’s now the longest-tenured member of the gang outside of O.G.’s Diesel and Rodriguez.

The Witcher Season 3 Is Reportedly Already Being Written

Netflix tends to wait a while before officially renewing shows for additional seasons, with viewership data and other numbers needing to be crunched before the platform makes a decision as to whether the continued investment is justified. The company isn’t slow to cancel projects, though, as evidenced by Jupiter’s Legacy being thrown on the scrapheap just a couple of weeks after it premiered.

Ryan Murphy’s Ratched is a notable outlier having been handed a two-season order when it was first announced, but you can probably bet your house on The Witcher running for a good few years to come. Season 1 became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, and the hype is steadily starting to build around Henry Cavill’s next outing as Geralt of Rivia thanks to the recent WitcherCon event debuting the first full-length trailer and locking in a December 17th release.

Feature length animated prequel Nightmare of the Wolf is coming next month and production starts on live-action spinoff Blood Origin at around the same time, so while it hasn’t been given the green light as of yet, it would be perhaps the most shocking thing to happen in the history of Netflix were The Witcher not to get a Season 3.

A new report claims that the writing process for a third run of episodes has already started behind the scenes, with the vast majority of the staff returning from Season 2. Netflix haven’t verified the information, but hit shows confident enough that they’ll continue often tend to get the ball rolling at the earliest available opportunity. The streamer is building out The Witcher into one of its marquee properties, so it’s only a matter of time before the news is made official.

Ryan Reynolds Calls Green Lantern A Crease In The Anus Of The Universe

He may have finally gotten around to watching the movie for the very first time, and even gave a running commentary on social media, but Ryan Reynolds clearly isn’t done bashing Green Lantern just yet. It’s been ten whole years since the infamous critical and commercial bomb was released, and it still lives on in infamy, thanks almost entirely to the leading man taking shots at the film every chance he gets.

Martin Campbell’s cosmic comic book adaptation is so bland and unmemorable that you can’t rule out the possibility it would have been forgotten about entirely a long time ago if it wasn’t for Reynolds keeping its reputation alive by slating both his performance and the blockbuster itself on a regular basis.

In a recent podcast appearance, Reynolds was detailing how he met future wife Blake Lively for the first time on the set of Green Lantern, so at least some good came out of the production. However, he had some choice words when describing the movie, which you can read below.

“I met Blake on the darkest crease in the anus of the universe called Green Lantern. And we were friends and buddies and then, about a year and a half later, we actually went out on a double date, but we were dating separate people. We hung out and kind of, you know, we always kind of kept in touch but sort of casually. And then next thing you know, she was going to Boston. I was going to Boston. So I was like, ‘I’ll ride with you’. We got on the train and rode together and then I was just begging her to sleep with me.”

Even a decade later, the knock-on effect created by Reynolds’ relentless dismissal of Green Lantern means that the upcoming HBO Max series being spearheaded by Arrowverse co-creators Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim needs to deliver top quality superhero entertainment right off the bat, because you just know the critics will be laying in wait to bash it over the head with comparisons to the 2011 version at the very first opportunity.

‘In brightest day, in blackest night, in a crease in the anus of the universe, no evil shall escape my might’ doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, but if anyone deserves to make fun of Green Lantern, it’s Ryan Reynolds.

Jackass Forever Fans Outraged That Bam Margera Isn’t Involved

Yesterday brought the first trailer for Jackass Forever, and it’s a testament to the enduring popularity of the brand and the relationship cultivated by the main stars between both themselves and their audience that it managed to generate warm and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia for watching a bunch of guys hitting each other repeatedly in the nuts.

Ehren McGhehey is the youngest of the core crew at a sprightly 44 years old, with Dave England the elder statesman at 51. Has time seen the Jackass ensemble tone down their daredevil antics? The footage answered that pretty definitively, and it’s a no. In fact, knowing that this is the last feature film in the money-spinning franchise, there’s every chance they could be pushing the envelope to new extremes to go out with a literal bang.

However, one veteran is not part of the film, and based on comments made by Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and director Jeff Tremaine, it’s not from a lack of trying on their part to keep him involved. The trio fought hard to convince Paramount to get Bam Margera on board in the first place, but he broke the terms of his contract by failing to remain clean and sober, causing him to be dropped from Jackass Forever.

Some fans still aren’t happy that one of the original gang isn’t part of the movie, though, and you can check out some of the responses below.

Tremaine has even filed a restraining order against Margera after receiving threats of violence, but it’s clear the cast and crew would much rather have him involved, because it means he’d have conquered his personal demons, but Jackass Forever will soldier on without him.

Sylvester Stallone Accused Of Faking Instagram Workout Video

Sometimes it seems nothing can stop Sylvester Stallone. Though he’s now 75-years-old, he still packs a punch. Rambo 5: Last Blood saw the iconic hero taking on Mexican drug cartels, he’s playing King Shark in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and is starring in intriguing superhero thriller Samaritan. Beyond all that Stallone is a popular presence on social media, regularly posting updates of his workouts.

But his latest has fitness experts raising their eyebrows. This video shows Stallone doing a bizarre workout in which he lifts two 45lb barbell weights from a kneeling position. First up, it doesn’t look like any workout move I’ve ever seen (the top comment is “the hell is he doing lol”) and secondly, he’s making very over-the-top grunting noises. Check it out:

Weightlifting experts think this might be a gag video, with the best breakdown coming from fitness expert Simon Miller. In a YouTube dissection of the footage he lays out his case that these are fake weights, saying that they don’t respond as you’d expect them to at that poundage and that Stallone’s muscles aren’t flexing in the right way. It’s also notable that Stallone put “heavy” in comments, perhaps implying sarcasm about this particular routine.

Stallone’s gym workouts are admirable, though he’s previously sounded a note of caution about the impact this has on his body. After the release of Rambo 5, he said:

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the gym because I’ve been out there doing Rambo, which caused a lot of damage. So now I’ve got to fix things.

Sylvester Stallone will next appear in The Suicide Squad on August 5th. But my most anticipated upcoming release is his director’s cut of Rocky IV. Now officially titled Rocky vs Drago, the movie will expand on the climactic fight and crank up the brutality. After some delays, this new version was recently confirmed for a theatrical release on November 11th, 2021.

5 Robert Pattinson Movies Are Dominating Netflix This Week

Just as we expected, The Twilight Saga – starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – has returned with a vengeance. The equivalent of cinematic comfort food for a generation of fans, longtime supporters of the literary adaptations put their Team Edward or Team Jacob allegiances to one side in order to rewatch the franchise from start to finish.

As a five-film series that initially hauled in over $3.3 billion at the box office and spawned an often frenzied but always dedicated following, there was no other outcome besides Twilight dominating Netflix’s most-watched list, and the only surprise is how quickly it ended up happening.

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and both halves of Breaking Dawn were only added to the library less than four days ago, but they take up half of the streamer’s Top 10 feature film rankings. The first installment reached as high as third position, which was inevitable when old and new fans alike would take the plunge to see if they had any interest in revisiting the other four.

Twilight

New Moon and Eclipse took sixth and seventh, so the chronological order on the viewership rankings does indeed make it clear that the Twihards weren’t doing half measures, and sought to devour all five in the shortest possible amount of time. Slightly further back, Breaking Dawn – Part 1 was in tenth place, which is a little strange when the final chapter in the story sits in eighth. Unless of course they just wanted to get to the good stuff, making the first half disposable by comparison.

Interest is going to drop off eventually, but based on the online reactions, there was an army of loyal Twilight supporters out there who cleared their respective schedules to get comfortable and binge away.
