How Sony Can Retcon Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Into Venom’s Origins
With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saying goodbye to the MCU and hello to Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (they have got to think of a better name than that), it’s inevitable that he’ll cross webs with Tom Hardy’s Venom (which nearly already happened). But how could this work?
After all, in the original comics, Venom’s entire origin story revolves around Spider-Man. The character hates him because both the symbiote and Eddie Brock feel wronged by Spidey. The alien symbiote was rejected by Peter because of its insidious effects and Brock was fired from the Daily Globe after Spider-Man exposes one of his scoops as untrue.
As we saw in Venom though, none of that happened. So, why would Sony’s version of Eddie Brock even care about Spider-Man? Well, there are a couple of minor retcons that could just about make this work.
One key line in Venom that might fix things was when they referred to Brock having to relocate to San Francisco after “the Daily Globe Incident.” This is a direct reference to his comic-book origins and it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to expand this line into an explanation that a young Spider-Man caused Eddie to lose his job.
Despite that, I’d imagine they’re going to have to find a more immediate reason for Venom and Spidey to be at odds with each other. Perhaps the plot will see the symbiote being inadvertently transferred to the web-slinger early in the film. While Spider-Man would inevitably reject it, he’d face anger from Eddie Brock for stealing ‘his’ symbiote, especially if Brock’s temporary lack of superpowers meant he was unable to prevent a tragedy occurring.
I’m just spitballing here, but if I can come up with a workable plot in a couple of minutes, I’m sure Sony can do the same with their legion of screenwriters. However Spider-Man and Venom’s first on-screen meeting goes though, it’s also very likely that they’ll eventually team up to stop Carnage. Who knows, maybe that outlandish rumor of Sony adapting Maximum Carnage as Venom 3 was true after all?

Former Batman Director Says Val Kilmer’s The Best Dark Knight
It’s difficult to find a Batman fan who’s going to care about Joel Schumacher’s opinions. The director of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin is credited with running the franchise into the ground with such ferocity that it took nearly a decade, a complete reboot and Christopher Nolan to revive it. His bad reputation is well earned, as despite making some minor classics like The Lost Boys, Flatliners and Falling Down, he decided to go all-in on camp with the Caped Crusader, with the results having aged terribly over the years.
Now, in a new interview with Vulture, he’s talked about his time with the films and his thoughts on them more than twenty years later. And, after everything that’s come since, he’s named Val Kilmer as his favorite Batman. That’s despite Kilmer’s behaviour on set being described as “psychotic,” with Entertainment Weekly reporting that he demanded the crew address him as “Mr. Kilmer,” spend a lot of time on set swaddled in blankets, insisted on muttering his lines under his breath and even stubbed a cigarette out on a cameraman’s face.
The interviewer compares Kilmer’s behavior on the set of Batman Forever to his similarly bizarre decisions on The Island of Doctor Moreau (which he left Batman & Robin for), with Schumacher saying in response:
“I was not there. I think Richard Stanley told me he had a nervous breakdown. I do know Marlon Brando threw Val’s cell phone in the bushes and said, “Young man, don’t confuse your ego with the size of your salary, ever.” Here’s the difference between Val Kilmer and Tommy Lee Jones. I don’t care what state Tommy is in emotionally, when that camera rolls, there is no bad take. Val is a different story.”
Being told off about being egotistical on set by Marlon Brando of all people is quite the achievement. But despite all this, Schumacher concludes the following.
“But he was a fabulous Batman.”
Well, he was alright I guess. Shame about the rest of the movie, though.

Ghostbusters Returning To Theaters For 35th Anniversary
Ghostbusters is back! The original and best movie is 35-years-old this year and to mark the occasion, Fathom Events are bringing the film back into theaters on October 6th and 10th. But this won’t be just any old screening of a classic movie. The pic will be screened together with a new introduction that brings together key members of the cast, who’ll reminisce on their experiences of working on the project.
In addition, the screenings will also contain some alternative takes. I reckon chances are good that these are the takes Jason Reitman discovered when putting together Ghostbusters 3. He recently showcased a couple of them to some extremely happy Ghostbusters fans, and there’s word that they include the legendary Fort Detmerring scene. You can see a brief shot of it during a montage in the theatrical cut, but this was part of a longer sequence that was considered lost until recently.
These screenings will take place at 600 movie theaters across the nation, with tickets available at the Fathom Events website and at participating box offices. If you haven’t seen Ghostbusters on the big screen, it’s a seriously good time at the cinema, even though you may get sat next to a diehard superfan who annoyingly insists on reciting every single line of dialogue along with the characters.
Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations Tom Lucas had this to say about the screenings:
“Ghostbusters is a comedy legend and a movie legend, a movie whose immediate success has been followed by decades of fervent fan appreciation. There’s never been a comedy quite like it, and maybe never will be again, and Fathom Events is delighted to bring Ghostbusters back to the big screen for longtime fans to enjoy again and new audiences to discover for the first time.”
With Ghostbusters 3 looking like it’ll be a love letter to the original, there couldn’t be a better time to reacquaint yourself with New York’s finest paranormal investigation unit. So be sure to hit the link below and grab your tickets.

New Joker Trailer Has A Secret Connection To Batman V Superman
The awesome new trailer for Joker has really turned some heads. Joaquin Phoenix looks like he’s going to live up to the hype, the politics of the film are absolutely fascinating and there’s an undercurrent of menace to the whole thing that really tickles my oysters. One aspect that sets Joker apart from most other contemporary superhero movies though is that it takes place in its own universe. That may change if the pic is a big hit and Warner Bros. decides the Jokerverse is the next big thing, but for now, it may be a one and done drama.
Redditor Ferdinando_Fallica, who’s an incredibly attentive viewer, has noticed that there may be a very subtle connection to Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in the trailer though. This comes in the scene set outside a movie theatre, where we see a poster for John Boorman’s 1981 Excalibur. If you’ll recall, at the beginning of Batman V Superman, we see the doomed Waynes leaving a movie theatre with the exact same poster displayed outside. It seems like too much of a coincidence to have the same poster on both sets, so what gives?
Well, it could indicate that the films share a set dresser, but a quick skim through IMDb doesn’t turn up any matches. It could be a subtle nod towards Zack Snyder then, who many in the movie community consider to have been treated extremely shabbily during the making of Justice League. It could even be a very obscure outside bet by Warner Bros. that if Joker‘s a smash hit they can retroactively fold it into the DCEU, perhaps by saying that the Jared Leto Joker was inspired by the Joaquin Phoenix one.
Whatever the case, it’s an intriguing detail. Perhaps we’ll never get to the bottom of this, but regardless, I’m seriously impressed that someone actually noticed this in the first place.

The Inhumans May Be Returning To The MCU With A New Cast
Somewhere out there in the vast unknown, we imagine there’s an alternate timeline in which Marvel fans have already witnessed an Inhumans movie, which was set to release last month.
Yes, July 12th, 2019 could have been very, very different if the studio had stuck to their original plan – a plan which, as you may recall, also referred to Avengers: Endgame as Infinity War – Part II.
History tells us, though, that Kevin Feige and Co. made some serious changes to Phase 3 along the way, resulting in release date shuffles and more. But perhaps the most notable change was in regards to the Inhumans, a group of beloved heroes from the comics who wound up with an ABC series instead of their own movie and, well, we all know how that turned out, right? But for fans of the characters, all hope may not be lost, as the gang might be on their way back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
MCU Cosmic reports that Black Bolt and the Royal Family may still have a future in the franchise and could be returning once Ms. Marvel and the Celestials are “better established” in the MCU. The outlet goes on to say that the property would be rebooted or retconned, which means new actors and actresses in the roles, wiping away the terrible taste left in our mouths from the aforementioned show.
Of course, We Got This Covered already brought you this news months ago, and while Marvel has yet to confirm it, the fact that MCU Cosmic (who have a pretty good track record) are also reporting on it leads us to believe that our sources got it right once again. That being said, this might only be the current plan and things could change just as easily as they did back when Endgame was still named Infinity War – Part II.
For now, though, it seems that Marvel Studios is indeed looking to reboot the Inhumans. The only question that remains is, will they find more success this time? What do you think? As always, sound off down below.
