Image: Apple

Apple has just announced its iPhone 12 lineup, and as part of today’s announcements, the company introduced a dizzying amount of camera tech scattered amongst the new iPhones. If you’re coming from an iPhone that currently has a single camera, or even a pair, you may find some serious upgrades here.

But first, let’s establish the baseline.

The iPhone SE’s camera.

One camera: iPhone SE (2020) and iPhone XR

The iPhone SE turned heads earlier this year at a $399 price, and the iPhone XR is now $499. Both have a single 12-megapixel f/1.8 “wide” camera, though they’re not quite the same — the XR has a larger sensor, while the iPhone SE appears to be a smaller one similar to 2017’s iPhone 8. Neither has ultrawide or...

Canon’s PowerShot Zoom is like a pocket telescope that takes photos

Canon has announced the PowerShot Zoom, an unusual camera that’s more like a digital monocular than a point-and-shoot. The company has been showing off the idea for a while and recently crowdfunded it in Japan; now it’s coming to the US.

The PowerShot Zoom is a tiny device with an electronic viewfinder, a 1/3-inch 12-megapixel sensor, and two switchable equivalent focal lengths of 100mm and 400mm with a digital zoom up to 800mm. The lens is f/5.6-6.3, so this probably isn’t well-suited to low-light use. Image quality in general is not really the focus.

Canon says the product has been designed for people who enjoy outdoor activities like birdwatching and hiking, however, and it could be a useful accessory for spectators at...

Netflix Ending Their Free 30-Day Trial Offer In The US

In a world filled with streaming services, each one has to make a case for why you should sign up and watch content with them, specifically. In order to do this, it’s quite common for said services to offer free trials that give you full access to their library of titles so that you can see firsthand whether or not you should spend your hard earned money on a subscription.

Unsurprisingly, this trend has always been the case with the world’s most popular platform, too. Whereas many of its competitors offer only 7 or 14-day trials, Netflix has frequently had a 30-day free trial to attract potential subscribers to their ever-expanding collection of classic and original content. But now that the streaming giant has amassed more subscriptions than any other service, they’re apparently ready to cut ties with a trial option altogether.

A Netflix representative recently confirmed to Variety that the offer has been removed and that the company is “looking at different marketing promotions in the U.S. to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience.”

That’s right – Netflix will no longer have any sort of free trial, so if you’re wanting to see what it has to offer, you’ll have to pay up. This is disappointing news for those who may be looking to move to the streaming site from something like Hulu or Amazon Prime Video, but the marketing team apparently believes that they’ve got better options for persuading new customers to subscribe.

Those include continuing to pump out hit movies and shows and giving free access to a handful of their most popular films and series so that people can get a taste what’s offered. It’s yet to be seen if the trial removal will have any effect on subscription numbers, but if you aren’t already a subscriber, you can check that free content out over at Watch Netflix For Free to get an idea of what you’re missing.

Sony Reportedly Wants More Avengers In Spider-Man 3

The specifics of the agreement between Sony and Marvel Studios to share Spider-Man have never been made public, but you would imagine that the former would have significant input on the creative side. After all, the web-slinging superhero is the crown jewel of their intellectual properties, even though they botched two franchises of their own and ended up striking a deal with Kevin Feige and his team.

Far From Home is the highest-grossing movie in Sony’s history, so they’re probably quite happy with how Marvel are handling the character regardless of how heavy their influence is, but we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones that told us that Taskmaster would be the villain in Black Widow and Jane Foster will have her cancer storyline in Thor: Love and Thunder – that Sony are pushing to include more Avengers in Spider-Man 3.

According to our intel, Sony’s hoping for an increase in profits after Far From Home became the first Spidey movie to ever cross a billion dollars at the box office, and they believe that utilizing more of the MCU’s recognizable faces in Tom Holland’s third outing as Peter Parker is one way to guarantee that it happens. And so, they’d like to add in a few more big name characters.

Obviously, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was all over the marketing for Homecoming and that movie didn’t reach a billion, while Far From Home did and it only featured background players like Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Happy Hogan. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is already confirmed for Spider-Man 3, and don’t be surprised if Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is added to the cast in the near future, too, but stacking the ensemble full of fan favorites is no substitute for a great story. Hopefully, then, Marvel won’t let their rival studio go too crazy with Avengers cameos in the threequel.

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Eyed For New Scorpion King Movie

Dwayne Johnson may have claimed the title of the world’s highest-paid actor on multiple occasions, but he’s been commanding massive paydays since the very beginning of his movie career. Despite only featuring in a minor supporting role that ended with his character being the subject of some of the worst CGI ever put to the big screen, Johnson was paid $5 million for signing on to The Mummy Returns, a record fee for a first-time actor.

Following the enthusiastic response to his appearance, spinoff The Scorpion King was given the green light, and he once again set records after picking up a check for $5,5 million, the highest amount ever handed out to someone for their first leading role. The movie was nothing to write home about and delivered perfectly acceptable B-level action fare, although it did solid business at the box office after earning almost $180 million on a $60 million budget.

Johnson may have stepped away after that, but The Scorpion King franchise has continued for almost two decades, although you’d be forgiven for being completely unaware of the existence of the four bargain basement sequels that arrived between 2008 and 2018, with low budget stalwarts like Randy Couture, Billy Zane, Ron Perlman and Rutger Hauer all dropping by at various points.

However, insider Daniel Richtman is claiming that Universal are working on yet another Scorpion King movie, except this time they want to bring back the original leading man and return the franchise to the big screen. Whether Johnson would even be interested in the slightest at this stage of his career is up for debate, especially when he’s already got several major blockbusters on the horizon over the coming years.
