No Time To Die Has One Of The Most Expensive Marketing Campaigns Ever

As a handsome, charming and charismatic secret agent that’s always dressed to impress, who uses a wide array of high tech gadgets to defeat the bad guys before almost always getting the girl in the end, James Bond radiates luxury. No Time to Die may have been delayed by eighteen months, but it’s set to score a bumper opening weekend at the box office, all while the movie’s promotional partners rub their hands in glee.

As per Deadline, the marketing campaign for No Time to Die is estimated to have run up a $150 million tab, putting it on a par with Marvel Cinematic Universe behemoths Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Looking at the list of top-tier brands to have joined forces with 007 for ads across all forms of media, you can see why the studio are pushing the boat out.

Expendables 4 Set Photos Reveal First Look At Megan Fox

When the cast for The Expendables 4 was announced, one name stood out above all others as the biggest surprise. Of course, we were all expecting at least a handful of the franchise stalwarts to return, with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Randy Couture and Dolph Lundgren acting as the legacy players.

50 Cent has starred in his fair share of action movies over the years, while Tony Jaa is one of the finest martial artists in cinema that’s never really been given the opportunity to show what he can do in a Hollywood production, but nobody really expected Megan Fox to tool up and report for duty alongside the aging band of action heroes.

Anthony Mackie Pitches A Great Idea For Real Steel 2

A largely forgotten blockbuster that’s barely rated Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 60% and failed to crack $300 million at the box office hardly sounds like the sort of project that would generate fervent sequel hopes a decade down the line, but it would be an understatement to say the popularity of Real Steel has soared recently.

The robot boxing adventure spent weeks dominating Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched list last year, with director Shawn Levy admitting he’d considered talking to the studio about mounting a sequel, and he wants his Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds to get in on the action to share the screen with his online arch-nemesis Hugh Jackman.

Percy Jackson Creator Developing New Fantasy Movie For Disney Plus

Fans are starting to get a little impatient waiting for official news on the Percy Jackson series in the works at Disney Plus, when it was first announced almost a year and a half ago, but all we’ve heard since then are a string of fairly vague updates from author Rick Riordan.

The creator of the literary fantasy franchise is heavily involved in the development process, which is good news when neither he nor audiences were particularly keen on the previous pair of Percy Jackson movies, although it’s still taking the Mouse House an awfully long time to get their ducks in a row and firm up a production and release schedule.

What If…? Writer Reveals How Age Of Ultron Inspired The Finale

Most Marvel Cinematic Universe fans would probably agree that Age of Ultron is the weakest of the four Avengers movies, one that marked the head-on collision between writer and director Joss Whedon’s push for creative autonomy, and the desire on the studio’s part to ensure that the mandated plot beats were hit and connective tissue established.

It’s not a terrible film by any stretch of the imagination, just a disappointment after the soaring highs of The Avengers three years previously. Of course, it still made $1.4 billion at the box office because this is the MCU we’re talking about, but it left plenty of audiences feeling cold once the credits started rolling.

Jake Gyllenhaal Starring In New Comic Book Movie From Extraction Director

Jake Gyllenhaal revealed that his anxiety issues caused him to mess up a number of takes during his first day of shooting Spider-Man: Far From Home, which marked his first role in a big budget studio project for a decade. However, he’s clearly overcome any self-doubt having added another high profile actioner to his slate on top of Michael Bay’s Ambulance and ambitious fantasy Oblivion Song.

As per Deadline, the Academy Award nominee will play the title character in comic book adaptation Prophet, which was created by Deadpool architect Rob Liefeld. If that wasn’t exciting enough, Extraction director Sam Hargrave is also on board, with an eye on making it his next feature once he wraps Chris Hemsworth’s Netflix sequel.

Tom Hardy Teases Plans For More Venom Sequels

A sequel to Ruben Fleischer’s Venom was announced less than a month after the movie hit theaters in October 2018, so by that logic we should expect a follow up for Andy Serkis’ Let There Be Carnage to be given the green light in a matter of weeks, especially when you consider Tom Hardy’s second outing as Eddie Brock scored an even bigger opening weekend at the box office than its predecessor despite the pandemic.

Of course, fans will be hoping that a certain a crossover comes first, but that’s entirely dependent on what the brain trust at both Sony and Marvel Studios have in store. We’re getting Venom and Spider-Man sharing the screen, that much has been confirmed, we just don’t know when we’ll get to see it or how the two will eventually cross paths.

No Time To Die Director Has An Idea For Another James Bond Movie

Plenty of long-running franchises tend to mix it up behind the camera with each new installment, but that hasn’t typically been the case for James Bond. A dozen directors have each helmed at least one entry in the long-running spy saga, but that’s less than you might think for a property that’s 25 films deep and celebrates its 60th anniversary next year.

That being said, the earlier days of 007’s big screen adventures possessed a much greater sense of continuity than the modern era, with fifteen of the first sixteen movies being directed by either Terence Young, Guy Hamilton, Lewis Gilbert or John Glen. Sam Mendes became the first filmmaker in 23 years to helm back-to-back Bonds when he followed up Skyfall with Spectre, while Martin Campbell remains the only other name to have called the shots on more than one film since 1989.

Inhumans Star Names The Marvel Superhero They’d Love To Play

Whichever way you want to cut it, Marvel Studios trying to adapt Inhumans for live-action was a disaster. The feature film version remains the only project in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was announced and given a release date, but never actually made it out of development hell.

The concept was then refitted as the basis for an eight-episode miniseries that aired on NBC, which was quite simply terrible. Ratings plummeted on a weekly basis, reviews blasted the cheap-looking costumes and dull plotting, and it was canceled after a single season having already earned a reputation as the single worst piece of film or television content that’s ever been put out during the Kevin Feige era.

Shang-Chi Star Responds To Criticism Of The Movie’s Ending

With the exception of Loki‘s Season 1 finale, all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s live-action Phase Four projects so far have failed to stick the landing, offering up conclusions that underwhelmed rather than enthused.

The final episodes of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are the lowest-rated installments on Rotten Tomatoes, with both shows rushing through a number of plot points too quickly and forcing in spectacle for the sake of it. On the big screen, Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings each favored CGI bombast over plot and character in their respective third acts, with the effects-heavy action seemingly an obligation.

On top of that, he won a whole new legion of fans as the Watcher in Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series What If…?, voices the Caped Crusader in HBO Max’s Batman: The Audio Adventures and recently began shooting Season 4 of sci-fi hit Westworld.

Star Trek Actor Would Love To Star In A Dark Green Lantern Movie

Even though it’s been ten years and change since the infamous box office bomb hit theaters, Ryan Reynolds will never let us forget how terrible Green Lantern was. Director Martin Campbell also repeatedly blasted his own movie a couple of months back, making it increasingly likely that the future of the comic book favorite lies on the small screen.

Reboot Green Lantern Corps was announced in late 2014 as part of the DCEU, but it eventually faded away into the ether of development hell to be replaced by the upcoming HBO Max series. Putting one of the Lanterns front and center in a feature film would only invite comparisons to the 2011 disaster, so an episodic project focusing on multiple ring bearers set across different time periods was about the smartest way to wipe the slate clean.

Jake Gyllenhaal Reveals Intense Discussions Over Length Of Mysterio’s Beard

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become increasingly collaborative, with filmmakers more heavily involved in the creative process than they were during the early days of Phases One and Two, where several talents to have worked with the franchise lamented the restrictions put in place to ensure that everything ended up tying together into one overarching narrative at the expense of creative individuality.

The actors have also reaped the benefits of being allowed greater freedom to put their own stamp on their characters, although not everyone gets the same sort of leeway as a Robert Downey Jr. or a Chris Hemsworth. A case in point is Spider-Man: Far From Home villain Jake Gyllenhaal, who revealed during a recent interview with Howard Stern that he had some intense and ridiculous conversations with Marvel about something so trivial as the length of Quentin Beck’s beard.
