Wreck it Ralph makes surprise Fortnite appearance

Disney’s Wreck it Ralph has made a surprise appearance in Fortnite coinciding with the release of its second movie. The character was first spotted during a stream from MozzzyyTwitch in which he briefly appeared on an outdoor cinema screen. It’s unclear whether this cameo is part of a bigger crossover event between the two properties, but Thanos from the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe was previously made a playable character for a limited-time event.

More so than Thanos, Ralph is a character that’s basically made for crossover events like these. The two films in the series are a hive of pop culture references, and the sequel even features a couple of references to Fortnite itself (and yes, one of them involves flossing).

Watch the very first trailer for Disney’s The Lion King remake

Disney’s remake of the 1994 classic The Lion King just got its very first trailer, in the form of a quick minute and a half teaser aired during the NFL’s traditional Thanksgiving primetime game.

The film, produced by Walt Disney Pictures and helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, is a photorealistic, computer animated movie featuring a staggering number of high-profile voice actors, including Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa. Hans Zimmer is also returning to score the film, while Elton John is coming back to rework some of his original compositions.

In the trailer, we can see what look like the opening moments of the movie, in which Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals...

Siri thinks Donald Trump is a penis

I’m not even American, but I just spat out a turkey dinner. Apple’s Siri digital assistant thinks that President Donald Trump is a penis. If you use an iPhone to ask Siri how old Donald Trump is, you’ll be greeted with a picture of a penis instead of a photo of the President. At the time of writing, the penis picture keeps coming and going. Presumably, someone is editing the Wikipedia page associated with Donald Trump, or gaming the algorithm that Siri uses to source images.

Either way, it’s an odd bug that has created various incorrect answers in the past. The most memorable Siri fail was when it erroneously thought the Bulgarian national anthem was Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” before Apple quickly fixed the result....

How Walmart is trying to reinvent in-store shopping to win Black Friday

Although we may be doing an increasing amount of shopping online, a vast majority of retail still occurs in the real world — and no event better emphasizes that fact than Black Friday, the annual holiday shopping extravaganza that consumes US retailers every Thanksgiving. Last year, Black Friday generated nearly $8 billion in sales, according to Adobe Analytics. It remains the best time of the year to get discounts on expensive electronics like 4K TVs, video game consoles, and laptops, while scores of new gadget categories like smart speakers and streaming set-top boxes have prices slashed in the hopes they get scooped up as holiday gifts.

Yet with so many deals moving online as retailers blur the lines between Black Friday and Cyber...

How an Instagram conversation led to a firestorm in China

Racist Instagram exchanges have gone viral in China, despite the platform being blocked. A Dolce & Gabbana fashion show has been apparently canceled in China as hordes of online users accuse the brand of racism. First denounced by famous actors including Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), the brand pulled its Shanghai fashion show last night after a dozen models left, and now, online platforms like Net-A-Porter and Alibaba’s Taobao have swiftly stopped carrying its wares in China.

The ire stemmed from a series of Instagram exchanges between Stefano Gabbana, one of two designers behind the fashion line, and a model, Michele Tranovo, who pointed out one of Dolce & Gabbana’s ads came across as patronizingly and potentially racist....

Amazon accidentally streamed an unreleased episode of Doctor Who

Amazon users who tuned into stream Doctor Who’s latest episode, “Kerblam!” experienced a little more time traveling than they bargained for. Rather than airing the correct episode, Amazon Prime Video apparently skipped ahead to “The Witchfinders,” an episode set to air this coming Sunday.

The mistake was spotted by io9, who also notes that the closed captions for “Kerblam!” curiously aired as part of “The Witchfinders” — surely a jarring mistake for anyone trying to make sense of why conveyor belts have anything to do with the 17th century. In a statement to io9, BBC Studios said it was aware of the error for US Amazon Prime users. “We are investigating how this happened and have taken the steps to remove it,” the company said. “BBC...

USPS took a year to fix a vulnerability that exposed all 60 million users’ data

The US Postal Service says it’s fixed a security weakness on usps.com that let anyone see the personal account info of its users, including usernames and street addresses. The open vulnerability was reportedly identified over a year ago by an independent researcher but USPS never patched it until this week, when Krebs on Security flagged the issue.

The vulnerability included all 60 million user accounts on the website. It was caused by an authentication weakness in the site’s application programming interface (API) that allowed anyone to access a USPS database offered to businesses and advertisers to track user data and packages. The API should have verified whether an account had permissions to read user data but USPS didn’t have such...

Wonder Woman 1984 Just Added A New Cast Member

A new figure has been quietly added to the cast of Wonder Woman 1984, with a recent THR guest column revealing that actor Kristoffer Polaha has a part in Patty Jenkins’ next film.

The actor is best known for his TV work, featuring in episodes of Castle, Mad Men, and Get Shorty, as well as appearing opposite Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in the 2013 drama Devil’s Knot. With this announcement, we now have one more name to put next to Pedro Pascal, Ravi Patel and Natasha Rothwell on the list of 1984 cast members whose parts are currently unknown.

Speaking of mysterious players in the Wonder Woman sequel, we’re still trying to figure out how Chris Pine’s character managed to return for this film despite supposedly dying several decades prior in the events of the first movie. The actor claimed earlier this month that Jenkins informed him of this development while they were still halfway through filming Diana’s debut, which hopefully indicates that this will be a well-planned twist, rather than a last-minute cheat.

In any case, the fans have plenty of theories on why Steve Trevor’s still around and looking as young as ever, with one rumor from a couple of months ago even potentially answering two questions at once with its claim that he’ll be brought back by a god – most likely Hades – played by Pascal. Of course, this is just one suggestion that the internet has yielded, with another rumor positing that Pascal will instead be playing the villainous Maxwell Lord.

Needless to say, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about who’ll be doing what in this film, but with Wonder Woman 1984 not coming out until June 5th, 2020, we’ll have plenty of time speculate.

Joaquin Phoenix Is On The Run In New Joker Set Video

A few days ago, a batch of set pics surfaced online which featured Joaquin Phoenix running though the Bronx as part of the upcoming Joker movie, and now we can watch this chase in motion, with a new video showing Arthur Fleck evading two Gotham City police detectives, played by Shea Whigham and Bill Camp.

While previous set footage from the Todd Phillips-helmed flick has shown the Clown Prince of Crime casually strolling away from a crime scene in a manner reminiscent of Heath Ledger, in this latest Hollywood Pipeline post, we see genuine panic on Phoenix’s face as he makes his frantic escape. The only moments where he slows down are when he gets hit by a taxi (or at least his stunt double does), and when he bumps into a man on the streets wearing a face like his.

We’ve sure been seeing a lot of clown imagery from the Joker’s first standalone film, with photos from a few months ago exhibiting a whole army of flamboyant-looking figures storming the New York subway. In fact, even when Arthur isn’t in his villainous persona, he seems to work a day job that requires him to put on white makeup and a green wig.

While the film’s first official synopsis still leaves much to the imagination, it certainly looks like the Joker becomes a notorious public figure, with various leaked pics showing admiring, clown-faced crowds following the character while holding up slogans like “Clown4Mayor” and “Kill the Rich.” So while the law may not be too fond of Arthur, it’s possible that his anarchic ways will only make him more popular.

We’ll see how it all goes wrong in this alleged cautionary tale when Joker hits theaters on October 4th, 2019.

The Internet Reacts To First Trailer For The Lion King

Disney’s divisive approach of remaking all their most cherished animated films as live-action flicks sees the studio working in some seriously nostalgic territory, and with this new reimagining of The Lion King, they could be making their boldest double-dip of our childhood memories to date. So when the first trailer to Jon Favreau’s next film dropped, it was only natural that it would hit many a longtime Disney fan right in the feels.

In its combination of vibrant cinematography, richly textured CGI, and of course, some familiar music cues, it seems that this trailer hit all the right notes to get viewers emotional and misty-eyed, with fans taking to Twitter to show their sentimental side:

Nonetheless, some viewers are staying skeptical of the project, or at least arguing that the trailer isn’t as glorious as people are making it out to be:

Overall, however, it’s clear that this teaser has pleased the internet’s inner child. It’s surely no accident that the final line of the trailer is simply the word “Remember,” spoken by James Earl Jones in a reprisal of his role from the 1994 film. We certainly do remember, and you can bet that filmgoers won’t forget to show up for this one in eight months’ time.

Of course, the remake will also be bringing some of its own ideas to the table. As well as working with a new script from Jeff Nathanson, the film will reportedly feature only four songs from the original movie, leaving space for Tim Rice and Beyoncé to provide their own original piece. In its combination of the old and the new, we’ll see if The Lion King can do justice to its predecessor while carving out its own identity when the film hits theaters on July 19th, 2019.

Tom Felton Explains Why He Hasn’t Re-Watched The Harry Potter Films

Though it’s been more than seven years now since the Harry Potter series ended its cinematic run, these fantastical films have lost little of their pop culture clout, remaining a subject of obsession and devotion for Potterheads across the world. But while fans continue to take pride in knowing every detail of these eight cinematic outings, Tom Felton has left the movies virtually untouched since he filmed his last scene as Draco Malfoy.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the actor admitted that he’s never once watched a Harry Potter film outside of their premieres. But while you may think it’s only natural that Felton would feel a little shy about revisiting his teen years, the star’s own explanation is that he’s saving these flicks for a special occasion, like when he shows them to his kids one day.

“I have seen the Potter films during the premieres, but other than that no — never! I’m saving that for a sacred day,” said Felton. “I have visions of doing that with my two kids, when I’m a little bit older.”

Just think of this vision as the ending flash-forward of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 if J. K. Rowling had chosen to get really meta at the last minute.

Since Felton apparently hasn’t spent these last few years re-watching two-and-a-half-hour films, he’s had plenty of time to create a pretty successful post-Potter career for himself, with his latest screen outing being the YouTube Premium sci-fi series Origin.

Meanwhile, the Wizarding World continues to yield new stories, with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hitting cinemas just recently and doing pretty well for itself at the box office. Still, given the mixed response this sequel received from critics, it’s unlikely that Harry Potter fans will be revisiting this one as compulsively as they do the original eight.
