Apple’s over-ear headphones could be launching soon

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

Apple could release a new pair of over-ear headphones soon, according to placeholder listings that have reportedly been appearing in Target’s product database. The listings, which were reported by YouTuber Jon Prosser, show a product called the “Apple AirPods (X Generation),” with a price of $399. Prosser notes that there are three SKUs listed for the product, which suggests it could be available in three different colors.

Over the past couple of years there have been numerous reports that the company is working on a pair of Apple-branded over-ear headphones. In early 2018, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg both reported that the headphones were due to release before the end of 2018, but in June Bloomberg subsequently reported...

Vivo’s Apex 2020 concept phone is coming on Friday

Vivo’s plan to unveil its third Apex concept phone were derailed by the cancellation of Mobile World Congress, but it looks like we’ll find out about it this week anyway. The company says it’s going to announce the Apex 2020 on Friday and has supplied The Verge with a image teasing its “fullview edge display.”

The render shows a phone screen with dramatically curved edges and the number “120” running from top to bottom. This could be a reference to the curvature of the glass; Vivo’s impressive Nex 3 flagship from last year had a “waterfall display” with 88-degree curved edges. Or it could refer to the refresh rate, though that wouldn’t exactly be groundbreaking. Or hey, maybe it’s both.

The previous Apex phones never saw release...

Realme’s X50 Pro has a Snapdragon 865 and 5G for $600

Realme is continuing its push into the high end today with the announcement of the Realme X50 Pro, its first 5G phone and one that the company will push as a legitimate flagship contender in more markets than ever before. It was intended for reveal at Mobile World Congress this week in an attempt to make a global splash; Realme is going forward with the announcement despite the event’s cancellation.

The X50 Pro is a pretty hefty phone at 207g and 9.36mm thick, and its design doesn’t do much to step beyond other devices from the company. The colorway on the device you see here, though, is pretty cool — Realme calls it “Rust Red”, and it’s kind of like a copper-brown frosted-glass matte finish on the back. Realme is yet to blow my mind...

Sony’s new Xperia 1 II adds 5G to its lineup of tall phones

The Xperia 1 II comes with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio screen like its predecessor. | Image: Sony

One year after the debut of its super-tall Xperia 1, Sony is back with a successor, the obscenely titled Xperia 1 II. In Europe the handset will be Sony’s first to support 5G, where it will be able to connect to sub-6GHz networks. Sony is keen to emphasize the photography capabilities of its flagship smartphone, and there are also some neat hardware inclusions like a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for wireless charging. (Both of those were missing from last year’s handset.) It also announced a new mid-range handset called the Xperia 10 II. In the US, where the flagship 1 II handset will be 4G only, Sony teased a separate 5G device called the Xperia Pro.

In an era of 108-megapixel smartphone cameras, the 12-megapixel triple-camera...

Tom Holland Says He Knows Everything About Spider-Man 3, But Won’t Spoil It

Tom Holland may have developed a reputation as one of the biggest spoiler risks of the MCU cast, but so far, the star has kept tight-lipped about Marvel’s plans for Spider-Man 3, despite claiming to be filled in on the whole thing.

Hey U Guys caught up with Holland at the premiere of Pixar’s Onward, where they asked the Spider-Man: Far From Home actor if he’d been told anything about Peter Parker’s next solo outing. In response, Holland said that Marvel and Sony have let him in on the movie’s biggest secrets, since they apparently trust him to keep his mouth shut:

“I know everything now. I had my big pitch meeting with Marvel and Sony about two weeks ago and I know all the secrets. But I’ve also done about a thousand interviews so I know how not to spoil a movie anymore.”

In the past, Holland has often come across as a ticking time bomb who’s always one interview away from blurting something out. But given how much experience the actor now has in the high-profile world of franchise cinema, we may well find that the MCU regular has finally learned to watch what he says.

In any case, principal photography for Spider-Man 3 is currently expected to commence in July of this year, and will cover the regions of Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Iceland.

Once filming gets going, we can expect to learn a little more about Peter’s next adventure, and if the timeline for Far From Home is anything to go by, then we may even find out the movie’s official title just a few months from now.

In the meantime, so long as Holland and his colleagues don’t let anything slip, the fans are free to speculate on what’s to come, though all will be revealed when Spider-Man 3 hits theaters on July 16th, 2021.

Star Wars’ Next Big Story Will Be Revealed Tomorrow Night

Though the next Star Wars film isn’t scheduled for release until December 2022, fans will hardly be starved for material in the years to come. For one thing, Lucasfilm has already spent months teasing plans for something they call “Project Luminous,” and on Monday night, it seems we’ll finally get some official info on what exactly this mysterious project will be.

ABC correspondent Clayton Sandell took to Twitter over the weekend with the following announcement:

“Star Wars Project Luminous will finally be revealed Monday evening. What is it exactly? Details will start to emerge around 7 PM Pacific time tomorrow night.  #StarWars #ProjectLuminous #MTFBWY”

Going by what we’ve heard already, the Project Luminous umbrella will encompass a new series of books, games and other forms of media that will essentially tell one big, cohesive story in the Star Wars galaxy.

While Lucasfilm has done a pretty good job at keeping most of the key details under wraps, recent reports suggest that Project Luminous will specifically focus on the High Republic era, which came to a close before the events of the Prequel Trilogy.

At last year’s New York Comic Con, Lucasfilm also dropped a cryptic clue with the following message:

“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things…. Until…Project Luminous, 2020.”

The first part of this tease is a direct quote from Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. But what about that last part? Until what, exactly? Well, your guess is as good as ours.

In all likelihood, whatever Lucasfilm is planning with Project Luminous will ultimately connect somehow to their vision for the next wave of films. Though last year’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ended the franchise’s previous era on a relative whimper, Disney now has a few years to build up the hype for their December 2022 release.

You can judge for yourself if this next era is one worth anticipating when Lucasfilm reveals their plans on Monday evening.
