WB Reportedly Keeping The Door Open For Ben Affleck’s Batman To Return
At this stage, the only people who really know what the future holds for Ben Affleck as Batman are the actor himself and the top brass at Warner Bros. and DC Films, and even then there’s no guarantees that the complexion of the boardroom is going to remain the same once the Discovery merger is finalized.
Ever since the two-time Academy Award winner ended his self-imposed exile as the Dark Knight by suiting up for Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoots and signing on for a supporting role in The Flash, we’ve heard just about every imaginable permutation in regards to a comeback.
Over the last year, there’s been talk that Affleck is returning as Batman full-time, having signed a multi-picture deal that would see him star in a handful of DCEU blockbusters, while various HBO Max projects have also been touted. On top of that, conflicting reports have claimed he’s done with the Caped Crusader after The Flash is released, while others have conflicted that conflicting information by countering that he might yet stick around.
The latest comes from insider Daniel Richtman, who offers that the studio are keeping the door open for Affleck to return in any number of future outings post-Flash. That’s about as vague as it gets, and it’s not as if we haven’t heard the same spiel on numerous occasions already from a multitude of different sources, but at the end of the day we simply don’t know for sure. Fans would love it to happen, but it’s entirely up to Affleck whether he wants to continue on as Batman, even if the rumor mill won’t rest until The Flash arrives in November next year and clears up his fate or lack thereof.

Milla Jovovich Not Ruling Out A Return To Resident Evil
The Resident Evil franchise is the highest-grossing series of video game adaptations in history with over $1.2 billion in box office takings, but the dust had barely settled on Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich’s The Final Chapter before a string on new projects based on the console favorite were announced to be in the works.
Animated series Infinite Darkness is coming to Netflix in just a few weeks, and there’s also a live-action show with former Supernatural alum Andrew Dabb set as showrunner. In fact, the ensemble for the episodic Resident Evil was announced just over a week ago, with John Wick‘s Lance Reddick set as Albert Wesker and Charlie’s Angels reboot star Ella Balinska, Artemis Fowl‘s Tamara Smart, Disney Channel veteran Siena Agudong and Bad Boys for Life‘s Paola Núñez additionally cast in mystery roles.
On top of that, big screen reboot Welcome to Raccoon City is scheduled to hit theaters in November of this year, with reshoots taking place last month after production initially wrapped in December 2020. That’s a whole lot of Resident Evil content on the cards, but in a new interview Jovovich admitted that she’s not completely against the idea of making a return to the fold somewhere down the line.
“I mean, I never say never. Resident Evil was always such a wonderful part of my life. I love Alice and I love the franchise, and I love Netflix! So, I mean, there doesn’t seem to be a downside.”
Anderson said something similar, but that’s a fairly standard answer given by industry types when they don’t want to be too definitive. The husband and wife duo have already moved past Resident Evil to collaborate on another video game blockbuster in Monster Hunter, and George R.R. Martin adaptation In the Lost Lands with Dave Bautista is up next, so Jovovich clearly isn’t mourning the absence of Alice in her life too much.

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Wants To Do A Musical
As a man of many talents, Dwayne Johnson throws himself wholeheartedly into anything he does, and that even extends to things he’s not particularly great at, which includes singing. Now, he’s not an awful warbler by any stretch of the imagination, but Lin-Manuel Miranda did reveal one of the first things Johnson asked him after joining Disney’s Moana was to get a song of his own, so he’s at least game.
During his wrestling days he would often serenade the fans and his opponents with some musical trash talk, while he also guested on Wyclef Jean’s 2000 song “It Doesn’t Matter” that was based off his in-ring catchphrase, and he even covered Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me” during an appearance on Jay Leno’s talk show over a decade ago.
On top of that, he’s technically an American Music Award and Billboard Award winner thanks to his contribution to the Moana soundtrack, as well as voicing Taylor Swift’s alter ego in her music video for “The Man”, so he’s hardly a stranger to a bit of crooning. To that end, insider Daniel Richtman is claiming the 49 year-old wants to star in a musical, but that’s the beginning and end of the tipster’s say on the matter.
It’s a broad and sweeping statement to be sure, and it’s not the strangest thing we’ve ever heard given the action hero’s previous proclivities, but the non-existent details mean that for now at least, we should take the idea of a Dwayne Johnson musical and add it to the long list of projects Richtman has touted for the star over the last several months, none of which have yet to gain any significant traction, or even be confirmed to exist.

Indiana Jones 5 Will Reportedly Send Indy To Space
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull split the Indiana Jones fanbase down the middle when it introduced aliens into the mix, and the movie’s reputation hasn’t exactly increased over time, but you’d hope that James Mangold might rein in the more outlandish elements a little when it comes to the fifth installment in the long-running franchise.
Of course, the adventures of the intrepid archeologist have always contained supernatural or fantastical elements, but little green men and flying saucers may have taken things a touch too far. We’ve already heard plenty of rumors that Indiana Jones 5 will focus on the Space Race and a former Nazi scientist who could be played by Mads Mikkelsen acting as the big bad, but a new “leak” claims that the title hero will be heading beyond the stars.
The tale hails from Reddit, so best not read into it too much, especially when there’s the very real danger that sending Dr. Jones into outer space would see the series jump the shark and go full Moonraker, which is not a comparison you want to invite, even if Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were heavily inspired by James Bond’s cinematic escapades when crafting their own mythology for Indy.
As things stand, though, we know precisely nothing about the plot for sure, with the countless set photos to have made the rounds giving nothing away other than the shocking reveal that Harrison Ford will be wearing his iconic costume. Until we get a better handle on Indiana Jones 5, which shouldn’t be too far away when you consider it hits theaters in eleven months, venturing into full-blown sci-fi should be filed in the rumor drawer for now.

Scarlett Johansson Defends Black Widow’s Avengers: Endgame Death Scene
Black Widow is finally arriving in early July, the first MCU movie since Spider-Man: Far From Home way back in 2019. One interesting wrinkle is that Natasha Romanoff died on screen in Avengers: Endgame, with this movie set just after the events of Captain America: Civil War. This will make the movie something of a memorial to the character as (save for a multiversal resurrection) it looks like Scarlett Johansson’s MCU swansong.
But her death soon became a source of controversy amongst Black Widow’s fans. As rightly pointed out, why should the MCU’s first female hero have to die? This also meant she didn’t take part in the final battle, with the all-female Avengers assemble shot sorely missing her presence. On top of all that, while Tony Stark got an all-star funeral, she almost went forgotten despite playing as important a role in beating Thanos.
Johansson commented on this in a new interview with ET Online!, saying:
“It’s funny because I’ve had kind of a lot of mixed reactions to her ultimate fate in Endgame. But for me, it made so much sense that she would sacrifice herself not just for the greater good of humanity, but actually for her friends, which was really at the heart of it. She’s a good one.”
Though Natasha was a fairly good place by the time of Avengers: Endgame, she was still clearly haunted by the “red in her ledger”. It can’t be easy for everyone to consider you one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes while knowing that you’ve done some horrible stuff in your past. So her giving her life in one final redemptive act is easy to understand. Even so, I wouldn’t have complained in the slightest if they’d ditched the boring bow and arrow guy (sorry Hawkeye fans).
Whatever your opinion on her death, fans are looking forward to seeing Natasha in action in her long-overdue solo movie. Judging by the trailers it’s looking like it’ll be worth the wait and I can’t wait to see that Marvel Studios logo on the big screen one more time.
Black Widow will release in theaters and on Disney Plus on July 9, 2021.

The Batman’s Ending Will Reportedly Be Divisive
If you were to take all of the relentless speculation at face value, then The Batman looks to be shaping up for disaster. Innumerable tales of behind the scenes woes, disagreements, arguments and fallouts have plagued the production since cameras started rolling in January of last year, and that’s without factoring in the more nonsensical tales of leading man Robert Pattinson impregnating Zoe Kravitz on top of the Batmobile, or his COVID-19 diagnosis actually being a hoax to cover up the fact he returned from hiatus out of shape.
Reshoots are set to occur next month, which might be a lot more all-encompassing and extensive that Warner Bros. would like to have you think, with Pattinson and Colin Farrell reportedly heading back to Glasgow and then New York in the near future. The Scottish city was the first location to play host to The Batman when the second unit pitched up almost eighteen months ago, and ironically the Caped Crusader’s reboot will be less than an hour away from The Flash, which has Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton pegged to film in Edinburgh doubling as Gotham City at around the same time.
Insider Grace Randolph has taken to social media and hinted that The Batman‘s ending will prove to be divisive among audiences, and might even be one of the things being altered during additional photography, as you can see below.
As I told you re #TheBatman a few days ago: additional photography / reshoots
I suspect they might change the ending, which I personally would suggest.
It’s from the recent comics but I don’t think mainstream audiences will like it. I didn’t like it in the comics.#DC #DCEU https://t.co/F5nvLxzCKA
— Grace Randolph (@GraceRandolph) June 20, 2021
Answers on a postcard as to what comic book arc The Batman could be drawing inspiration from, but the list of candidates capable of pissing off the fanbase would surely have to be a relatively short one. We’ve still got nine months to go until the movie hits theaters, but it would be nice to hear some positive news for a change.
