Call of Duty is the biggest mobile game launch ever, with 100 million downloads
Call of Duty: Mobile has had a colossal launch week, racking up more downloads than any other mobile game in history, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower. The game has reportedly achieved over 100 million downloads since going live at the beginning of this month.
That easily beats out the launch-week figures that Sensor Tower recorded for games that will be Call of Duty’s biggest rivals. There are caveats, however. While PUBG Mobile, for example, got 28 million downloads in its first week, its rollout was staggered across regions. The mobile version of Fortnite, meanwhile, was downloaded 22.5 million times, but it was only available on iOS at first.
Worth noting that this is without a China launch either.

FBI violated Americans’ privacy by abusing access to NSA surveillance data, court rules
The Federal Bureau of Investigation made tens of thousands of unauthorized searches related to US citizens between 2017 and 2018, a court ruled. The agency violated both the law that authorized the surveillance program they used and the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution.
The ruling was made in October 2018 by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), a secret government court responsible for reviewing and authorizing searches of foreign individuals inside and outside the US. It was just made public today.
The program itself, called Section 702 and part of the broad and aggressive expansion of US spy programs in the years after 9/11, granted...

Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Reveals How She Celebrated Her 30th Birthday
How does a superhero celebrate her birthday? According to Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, it’s not as wild as one might think.
The Academy Award winning actress rung in her thirtieth year by spending time with those who mean the most to her. In a recent Instagram caption below a picture of her in a flowery crown and pink dress, she said:
“One week ago I turned 30. To celebrate I stayed off my phone, I laughed with my friends, I hugged my family, I swam in the ocean, I dreamt really deep and reflected on…everything. Thank you for supporting my growth as an artist and individual. Thank you for using your hearts, minds and voices to better the space around you. Thank you for inspiring me. There’s so much life to live. I’m excited to see where we go.”
The performer is enjoying a brief break before the next phase of the MCU begins in 2020, as Larson is expected to play a large role in the cinematic universe going forward. Carol Danvers and Peter Parker are the new faces of the franchise now that Captain America and Iron Man are gone, which means lots of movies and cameos for them in the foreseeable future. The 30-year-old actress is already slated to appear in at least five more MCU installments over the coming years, which might just be the tip of the iceberg.
Regardless, it’s nice that Larson was able to enjoy a day away from her phone. The angry trolls have been out in full force lately to disparage all of her contributions to the MCU. Despite a big debut for Captain Marvel just this year, the character has since been labeled as one of the least popular superheroes in the business today. A lot of this has to do with backlash over the actress, who’s been the subject of many different online petitions to remove her from the role. Every scene she’s in has been attacked on the internet for seemingly no reason, while others have taken it upon themselves to just edit her out of Marvel movies entirely.
Thankfully, Larson hasn’t been letting these trolls get to her. She’s too busy living her life and celebrating her birthday in style. Now, she’ll begin preparing for Captain Marvel 2, which may just feature a cameo from a certain web-slinging fan favorite.

Joker Has A Couple Of Unexpected Connections To The DCEU
As has been clear from the beginning, Joker is not part of the DCEU whatsoever, with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker not intended to be a recast version of Suicide Squad‘s Jared Leto but an entirely different incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime altogether. That being said, there are a couple of small details that create a connection to the movies of Warner Bros.’ mainstream DC franchise.
First of all, near the beginning of the film, a news broadcast on TV mentions rumors of “Super Rats” appearing in Gotham’s sewers. This sounds like an oblique nod to Otis Flannegan AKA Ratcatcher, a minor Batman foe from the comics who has the ability to communicate with and control rodents. Given the obscurity of this character, it’s interesting that he should get his first on-screen mention in Joker. Soon, however, a gender-flipped version of Ratcatcher will appear in The Suicide Squad, as played by Daniela Melchior.
Secondly, Joker ends with the fated death of Thomas and Martha Wayne. As always, the wealthy family exit a movie theater before being killed by a crook in an alleyway. As you probably noticed, there are a bunch of posters adorning this theater, including one for Excalibur.
Funnily enough, Excalibur was also one of the movies playing at the theater seen at the beginning of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which also recounted the Waynes’ murder. So, we can presume that, in both instances, young Bruce lost his parents in the year Excalibur was released: 1981.
Again, Joker clearly isn’t set in the same continuity as the DCEU, but these two easter eggs create some sort of link with the franchise, perhaps establishing that it’s all part of the same multiverse if not the same universe.

Ring has made it ridiculously easy to surround your house with smart lights and cameras
It wasn’t that long ago when installing security cameras and lighting around your home was an expensive, cumbersome process. You needed to wire power and connectivity to the cameras, dig trenches or run wiring for the lights, and then rig up a system to control and monitor it all.
Ring’s latest products this year address those challenges head-on: they are inexpensive, easy to install, and run on batteries or even solar so you don’t have to run wiring to them at all. Ring has had battery-operated doorbells for a few years, but now, it has a whole suite of products that require no wiring and very little work to install.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been testing Ring’s Stick Up Cam, Smart Lighting, and Peephole Cam, each of which addresses...
