Beavis And Butt-Head Fans Are Freaking Out Over The New Movie

Beavis and Butt-Head will never die. The pair have been giggling sociopathic idiots since 1992 and remain so to this day. They were revived for a single season in 2011 and now are back for two more, the first of which will air on Comedy Central in late 2021. In these upcoming episodes Beavis and Butt-Head will deal with “a whole new Gen Z world” in stories designed to appeal to new and old fans alike. But now Beavis and Butt-Head are going one further, as news has just broken that they’re also getting a new movie that’ll air on Paramount+.

This will be their second cinematic outing after 1996’s Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. This surprised pretty much everyone on its original release by not only picking up rave reviews from critics (many of whom had never seen the MTV show) but also becoming a sizeable hit, scoring the highest December box office opening in history at that time and going on to be a high-seller on home video. Creator Mike Judge has repeatedly said he’d like them to have another feature-length adventure and it seems as if he’s finally gotten his wish.

Fans of the characters are over the moon at the news. Here’s a taste of how it’s going down on social media:

Beavis and Butt-Head

It remains unknown when we’ll see the new movie, though it could be a way off yet. First out of the gate will be the new season on Comedy Central and if that’s due this year, then we might see the film release in 2022 or at the latest in early 2023. While some have their doubts that the show’s toilet humor, bizarre plotlines and general anarchic tone will land in 2021 I reckon Beavis and Butt-Head could be just what society needs right now.

More on this as we hear it.

Tom Holland’s Marvel Contract Expires After Spider-Man: No Way Home

When Tom Holland first signed on to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker and made his debut in Captain America: Civil War, the negotiations were unique due to the fact that his impending solo movies were set to be co-produced by Sony under the character-sharing agreement with Marvel Studios.

The actor inked a six-picture deal that would see him headline three solo films and appear in another three ensemble features within the MCU, with December’s Spider-Man: No Way Home marking the end of the contract. Given the overwhelmingly positive reception to his portrayal of the web-slinger, though, not to mention the fact that Far From Home is the highest-grossing film in Sony’s history, you’d have thought that both studios would be keen to tie him down for much longer.

However, in a new interview, Holland revealed that once Jon Watts calls a wrap on No Way Home, he’s no longer under contract as Spider-Man, and the 24 year-old is keen to take at least a short break from acting and go on some adventures.

“I’m going to take a break and travel the world. It’s the first time since I signed on that I don’t have a contract with someone. I might go skiing because that’s something I’ve not really been allowed to do because it’s obviously a dangerous sport. I’ve been very careful over the years, which is why I’ve become obsessed with golf because it’s the only sport I can play without getting injured.”

You can understand his position seeing as he’s spent the last six years tied to Spider-Man, and it isn’t like he’s retiring the spandex. In fact, Holland went on to admit that he wants to play the iconic superhero for as long as possible.

“I’m very lucky that I look young and I can continue to play this 17-year-old web-slinger and I will do that for as long as they will have me. If they want me to make ten Spider-Man movies, you better believe I will be there. But Cherry was our big leap. I’m really interested to see the types of doors that it opens and the doors that it closes.”

Having received widespread acclaim for his work in Netflix’s The Devil All the Time, with the Russo brothers’ Cherry also generating strong buzz for his lead performance, Holland is now in a position where he can balance being part of the MCU with a burgeoning reputation as a genuine dramatic talent, but Spider-Man: No Way Home is by no means the end of the line.

Watch: Dave Bautista Fights Zombies In New Army Of The Dead Trailer

2021 is going to go down in the history books as the year of the Zack Snyder streaming exclusive, with the filmmaker delivering two huge blockbusters within a couple of months of each other. Obviously, most of the attention is currently focused on Justice League, but the first Army of the Dead trailer has now arrived to remind audiences that there’s an action-packed zombie thriller coming to Netflix in May.

A team of elite thieves and mercenaries robbing a casino in the midst of a Las Vegas zombie outbreak that originated in Area 51 is the sort of B-tier concept on an A-list budget that promises to do exactly what it says on the tin. Dave Bautista is a reliable leading man that’s a much better actor than his hulking frame would suggest, but nobody’s adding Army of the Dead to their watch list for the performances.

Indeed, the footage makes it look very much like a Zack Snyder movie for better or worse, as it’s packed with all of the visual flourishes that have come to define his output over the last seventeen years. Not to mention that he ironically made his feature debut with zombie remake Dawn of the Dead, so his latest effort is bringing things full circle to some extent.

Army of the Dead is just the second of Snyder’s nine films that isn’t based on a pre-existing property, and the last time he gave us something 100% original, the end result was the dire Sucker Punch. Of course, he’s a decade older and wiser, not to mention vastly more experienced, so hopefully the balls to the wall undead action heist thriller lives up to the undoubted potential shown in the first footage.

New Beavis And Butt-Head Movie Headed Straight To Streaming

With Paramount Plus launching next week, the studio has revealed the bevy of exciting exclusive content that’s coming to the latest streaming platform to join the race. Paramount is developing Paranormal Activity reboot, Pet Sematary prequel and a massive expansion of the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. There’s even a Frasier revival in the works. And speaking of iconic 90s TV shows, Paramount has also announced a new Beavis and Butt-Head movie is on the way, too.

As part of Paramount Plus’ exclusive comedy lineup, which also includes The Weekly Show With Trevor Noah and a new season of Inside Amy Schumer, creator Mike Judge is working on a feature film for his legendary animated duo. This project is in addition to the revival that Comedy Central ordered last year, which King of the Hill veteran Judge – who also voices both characters – is likewise helming.

Beaves and Butt-head were MTV’s crowning jewel three back in the day, running for seven seasons from 1992-7. This Paramount Plus film will be their second feature-length outing, following 1996’s Beavis and Butt-head Do America, which dropped amidst the height of the pair’s popularity. A previous revival occurred on Comedy Central in 2011, however it was cancelled after just 22 episodes due to dwindling ratings.

Beavis and Butt-Head

Don’t worry, that’s not going to happen this time around, though, as the network has already ordered two seasons of this second revival series. And the addition of a sequel movie suggests the studio is committed to relaunching the characters for the long-term. The new projects are expected to retain the premise of the original – following Beavis and Butt-head as they cause havoc at school and criticize contemporary pop culture from their couch – but just update the setting to the 2020s.

This latest announcement was made via a short promo video taking the form of an animated Zoom call between Beavis and Butt-Head, which you can catch in the player above.

Pet Sematary Prequel Movie In The Works For Streaming

Paramount is looking to make its new streaming platform a rival for the likes of HBO Max and Disney Plus, with the studio announcing that they’re planning to release three to four major movies on the service per year. And one of the first on the way should reel in Stephen King and horror fans, as a Pet Sematary prequel is now in development as a Paramount Plus exclusive.

Deadline is reporting that the project will be an “origins story” for the chilling King tale, which centers on a burial ground for animals that can resurrect the dead. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing, with the script provided by Jeff Buhler. Both di Bonaventura and Buhler were previously involved with the 2019 adaptation of King’s original novel, so we can infer that the prequel will be directly tied into that movie.

2019’s Pet Sematary grossed a solid $113.1 million at the box office, although it received mixed reviews, with critics and audiences divided over the changes it made to the source material, including switching the identity of the child who’s eerily brought back to life after their untimely death. Deadline didn’t reveal any plot details for the prequel, but there’s certainly an opening to explore the younger life of John Lithgow’s character Jud, who knows the graveyard of old.

Another horror feature that’s going up on Paramount Plus is Paranormal Activity reboot directed by Underwater‘s Will Eubank and penned by the franchise’s long-term screenwriter Christopher Landon. Clearly, Paramount has realized that some of its best assets hail from the horror genre, which don’t typically pull in blockbuster figures at the box office but are the perfect choices to help drum up subscriptions for P+.

Paramount Plus, a rebranding/relaunch of CBS All Access, goes live in just over a week on March 4th, and you can let us know whether you like the idea of a Pet Sematary prequel in the usual place below.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Animated Movie In Development With Original Creators

In 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender arrived on Nickelodeon and its young target demographic was immediately hooked on its fantastical world of rich mythology. Fifteen years later, it hit Netflix and understandably, the platform opened it up to a whole new audience, with the show going on to top the charts on the streaming service and becoming one of the most-watched titles on there last year.

While the basic concept of Avatar should be familiar to anyone who even has just a passing interest in the fantasy genre, the depth of its themes and characters set it above many other animated shows of its kind and it’s managed to remain hugely popular and relevant to this day. Which is why Paramount intends to expand the property with an animated movie.

Deadline reports that a new animated feature film is in the works and it’ll come to us from original series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The project will enter production later this year, with an aim to premiere in theaters, but aside from that, details are unfortunately quite scarce.

Announcing the news earlier today, Brian Robbins, President of ViacomCBS Kids & Family, said:

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra have grown at least ten-fold in popularity since their original hit runs on Nickelodeon, and Ramsey Naito and I are incredibly excited to have Mike and Bryan’s genius talent on board to helm a studio devoted to expanding their characters and world into new content and formats for fans everywhere.”

“Creator-driven stories and characters have long been the hallmarks of Nickelodeon, and Avatar Studios is a way to give Mike and Bryan the resources and runway to open up their imaginations even more and dive deeper into the action and mythology of Avatar as we simultaneously expand upon that world and the world of content available on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon,” he added.

Obviously, this is very exciting. Though we don’t know too much about what’s being planned just yet, the fact that the show’s original creators are involved should put fans’ minds at ease. And given that they know just how special the property is for so many millions of people, you can be sure that they’ll be bringing us something pretty exciting.

Tell us, though, what are you hoping to see from the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movie? As always, let us know down below and watch this space for more.
