Instagram’s Reels feature reportedly expands to India following TikTok ban

Facebook is testing Instagram’s Reels feature in India, Business Insider reports. Reels is a video editing tool designed to let people create TikTok-style 15 second videos that can be shared on their Instagram Stories, sent via DM, or posted to a section of the Explore tab called Top Reels.

The news emerged just days after the Indian government banned TikTok along with 58 other China-based apps. Business Insider reports that some Instagram users in India have already started receiving Instagram’s new feature in an update, and a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the company plans to release the feature more widely.

The UK may reverse its decision to allow Huawei as a supplier for the country’s 5G network buildout after a report concluded that US sanctions would make the Chinese telecom giant’s equipment less safe. The report from GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre, leaked by The Telegraph and corroborated by Bloomberg, claims that the restrictions on Huawei’s operations “will force the company to use untrusted technology that could increase the risk to the UK.”

The report “is likely to force Boris Johnson to abandon the company entirely,” according to The Telegraph. A source told Bloomberg that the British prime minister is preparing to phase out Huawei as soon as this year, although the exact timetable is reportedly yet to be confirmed.

Here’s How Eiza Gonzalez Could Look As The DCEU’s Zatanna

The next few years could be big for Zatanna. Outside of a recurring guest role on Smallville, the sorceress has yet to make a major live-action appearance but she’s due to turn up soon in both the movies and a new TV show. J.J. Abrams is developing a Justice League Dark series for HBO Max, which will feature her amongst the team, while Warner Bros. is working on a solo movie for Miss Zatarra, which will be separate from the small screen version.

Sticking with the film side of things for a moment, what fans really want to know is, who’s going to play Zatanna in the DCEU? Well, prolific digital artist Boss Logic has named his pick via this magical new artwork and it’s Hobbs & Shaw star Eiza Gonzalez.

“Quick mock up of [Eiza Gonzales as Zatanna],” Boss Logic wrote in his caption for the image. “I have wanted her as a few characters over the years, I think she would shine here too.”

As the artist says above, Gonzalez has been a popular choice for a few DC heroines in recent years. She was widely thought to be in the running for Catwoman back when Ben Affleck was still in charge of The Batman, for example. Zatanna’s less of an immediately obvious choice for the Baby Driver star, but as you can see, she would definitely look the part. She’s clearly circling the superhero world, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if she joins the DCEU in the near future.

Last year, we heard Emilia Clarke was attached to the part but she then passed on the project, which left the studio to look elsewhere. One new candidate is The Witcher‘s Anya Chalotra, though it’s unclear if she’s still in the running as it’s been a few months since we’ve received any updates on the matter.

Shia LaBeouf Under Fire For Brownfacing In New Movie

Shia LaBeouf may have risen to fame in Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before becoming one of the most promising actors of his generation thanks to a string of hits like Holes, I, Robot, Eagle Eye, Disturbia, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the first three Transformers movies, but it wasn’t long before he took a turn down a troubled path that saw him quickly fall out of favor with Hollywood, leading to him walking away from blockbuster filmmaking and focusing more on indies.

There’s no denying that LaBeouf’s behavior is often more than a little eccentric, but with the right material he can still be an incredibly magnetic and enjoyable screen presence. He’s well known for fully throwing himself into his characters and his next role looks to be no different in that regard, with the actor already turning heads for his appearance in David Ayer’s The Tax Collector, for which he got a real life tattoo that covers his entire chest.

But where Shia LaBeouf goes, controversy usually follows and already, there are detractors now accusing him of ‘brownfacing.’ For those unfamiliar, the term is “a variant of blackface involving ethnic impersonation of people with brown skin including Latin people, South Asians, Middle-Easterners and North Africans. And with The Tax Collector, the Transformers star is seemingly appropriating a Latino personality, even coming under fire for his “cholo” (a derogatory word used to describe someone of Mexican descent) accent.

All fair points by Ayer, but no doubt, The Tax Collector will continue to inspire controversy and discussion in the lead up to its release on August 7th. If nothing else, though, it’ll certainly offer up another interesting, committed performance from Shia LaBeouf.
