Watch Natalie Portman Become The Mighty Thor And Lift Mjolnir
One of the most mind-blowing reveals from Marvel’s Comic-Con panel this weekend was Thor: Love and Thunder. We knew a fourth movie for the God of Thunder was happening, but what we didn’t know is that it would star a Goddess of Thunder as well. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are set to star in Taika Waititi’s second Marvel movie as expected, but the news that Natalie Portman would be returning to the franchise came as a huge surprise.
Not only that, but when we next see her, Jane Foster will be the Mighty Thor herself and be the one to wield Mjolnir. If you thought social media exploded when the announcement was made though, you should see how the crowd in Hall H reacted when Waititi dropped the bombshell at SDCC. In fact, you can view it in the video below, which shows the moment Portman arrived on stage and got to lift Mjolnir for the first time.
Natalie Portman recieves her Mjolnir. Jane will become the female Thor in Love and Thunder. pic.twitter.com/OXRtvompad
— Rotten Tomatoes (@RottenTomatoes) July 21, 2019

The actress has shared an image from this awesome moment on her Instagram as well, teasing that it’ll act as a “before” picture for when she gets super-jacked to get in character as an Asgardian goddess. Of course, people being what they are, there’s been a lot of discussion about whether a “female Thor” is necessary. Well, Waititi has responded to that ridiculous criticism already, pointing out Portman’s playing the Mighty Thor, not the Female Thor.
The Mighty Thor is, as comics readers will know, the 2015 series that introduced the idea of Jane becoming worthy to lift Mjolnir into the Marvel universe. As Portman skipped out Thor: Ragnarok, fans never assumed this storyline would be replicated faithfully on screen and that Valkyrie might take the job instead. Thompson’s character was appointed the new monarch of Asgard in Avengers: Endgame, though, so now it falls to Dr. Foster to become the new Thor.

Avengers: Endgame Writers Address If Thanos Will Return
He was the most dangerous, most powerful foe in the MCU for all of Phases 2 and 3, but Thanos was finally destroyed in Avengers: Endgame. Twice, in fact. After having such a major presence in the franchise before now and the victory of Endgame hinging on his defeat, there’s surely not much chance of the Mad Titan returning in the future, right?
Or is there? While speaking to CinemaBlend at Comic-Con over the weekend, Endgame writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus weighed in on the tricky issue. McFeely reminded us how anything is possible in the Marvel universe, and every death can be undone in some way. The problem is that you don’t want to undercut the stories you’ve previously told and the endings you’ve already put in place.
“It totally depends on your opinion of the multiverse and how you’re going to go forward with the idea of using characters who are gone, right? Certainly, comic book readers are pretty down with that. ‘Any way you can give me that character, give it to me.’ My grandmother’s not down with that. She knows Tony died. She knows that Thanos died. ‘Why is he back?’ … So the question becomes, what path will Marvel take going forward? I love the idea that things matter. They stick, and you don’t get a lot of get out of jail free cards.”

McFeely’s got a good point. Sure, Marvel fans are used to characters being resurrected via mystical means, time travel – as happens to Thanos in Endgame – or alternate universes, but bringing Thanos back would likely negatively affect the power of the way he was finally bested. In particular, Iron Man’s noble sacrifice would be proven pointless.
If Thanos can’t – or at least, shouldn’t – be brought back to life, then maybe he could return in a movie that took place prior to his death. Maybe even millennia before. As Eternals will feature Thanos’ kind, the Deviants, it’s theorized that Josh Brolin might find himself with a cameo in the film as a younger version of the future tyrant. But this is just speculation at present.
Tell us, though, would you like to see Thanos return to the MCU? Or was Avengers: Endgame the perfect final appearance for him? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Kevin Feige Promises The MCU Fantastic Four Will Be Better Than Fox’s
Despite being the first family of Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to theatrical adaptations. While many fans speculated that Disney’s acquisition of Fox (and the many Marvel characters the studio held the rights to) would lead to a definitive MCU take on the series, fans didn’t know when or even if Kevin Feige and co. would ever attempt another FF reboot.
Yet, after their massive ten-title Phase Four announcement over the weekend, we know Marvel Studios is planning on bringing Reed, Johnny, Sue and Ben to the big screen sometime after 2021, but aside from the quick name-drop at Comic-Con, details are still up in the air.
When pressed for clarity in a post-panel interview with Variety, Kevin Feige admits that he doesn’t think too highly of the previous adaptations but fully believed Disney has the capability of doing the characters right:
“All of that is spoilers, but I’m extremely excited about those characters and about bringing Marvel’s first family up sort of to the platform and the level that they deserve.”

You may be shocked to realize this, but there have been four Fantastic Four films produced over the past 25 years. The first is Roger Corman’s officially unreleased adaptation from 1994, followed by Tim Story’s two part franchise that began in 2005. Starring Jessica Alba and future Captain America Chris Evans, the movies feel like mid-2000s superhero flicks in all of the worst, most goofy ways. Then, Fox hired Josh Trank to reboot the series with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan in 2015, but the less said about that movie, the better.
Considering there are just as many Fantastic Four movies as there are Avengers films, Marvel Studios is going to have to come up with quite a take to breathe new life into the series. We’ve already seen countless portrayals of Doctor Doom, and failed attempts at the Silver Surfer, Galactus and the Negative Zone. A more pessimistic person may say the well is dried up. Luckily, the MCU track record speaks for itself.
How about you, though? What do you hope to see in a MCU Fantastic Four film? Let us know in the comments below!

AMC’s Discussed Doing A Walking Dead Spinoff Movie For Negan
The Walking Dead franchise is one of the most lucrative properties going today. The comic series may have ended earlier this month, but the burgeoning television universe is alive and well.
Moreover, expansion is continuing with a trilogy of films focusing on individual characters. The first is going to be based on Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, who notably left the main series last season. It was recently announced that Universal would release the aforementioned movie theatrically and while fans were excited to hear about how this production is proceeding, talk inevitably turned toward the future.
Specifically, questions about the the other Walking Dead films, as AMC initially announced that they would be making three, began to pop up. The most prominent query, by far, is who will be the protagonist going forward? Will they continue the adventures of Rick Grimes after the initial outing, or is another character going to move into the spotlight?

Well, ComicBook.com recently caught up with Jeffery Dean Morgan, who plays fan-favorite villain Negan on the show, and asked him about the possibility of his character potentially headlining a film. Here’s what he had to say:
I know that it’s been discussed. I, we, gotta do it before I get any older, I mean, pretty soon I’m not gonna be able to be the young Negan anymore.
While this certainly isn’t definitive proof that everyone’s favorite barb-wired wrapped baseball bat aficionado is going to make his big screen debut, it does point to it as a possibility. Morgan seems to be up for the opportunity, and the folks at AMC have at least talked about it, so maybe we”ll get to see Negan swinging Lucille around in movie theaters sometime soon.
But what do you think, should Negan lead a Walking Dead film, or should they just continue to follow Rick Grimes? Or is there another character that should get the headlining spot? Sound off below!

Here’s What Jane Foster’s Thor Could Look Like In Love And Thunder
It’s official! There’s a new Thor in town and it ain’t Chris Hemsworth. Marvel’s grand Comic-Con panel this weekend dropped the bombshell that Thor 4 AKA Thor: Love and Thunder would bring Natalie Portman back into the MCU. And when she returns, Jane Foster will be the one worthy enough to lift Mjolnir and possess the powers of Thor.
The revelation caused the internet to explode and fans have been reeling from the announcement ever since. But, as we’ve got a while to wait until we see the Mighty Thor in action, how could Portman look as the Goddess of Thunder? Well, this epic piece of artwork gives us a very good idea.
Artist Jake Bartok shared his “quick MCU inspired sketch” on Twitter which dresses Jane in Asgardian armor, red cape and her own version of Thor’s helmet under her arm. Bartok’s effort cleverly blends the look of Jane’s Thor from the comics with the costumes of the MCU. The helmet is a match for the one from the source material, too, but the artist decided not to replicate the comics’ sleeveless attire. Instead, he’s given Jane a very Valkyrie-esque get-up, except with Tessa Thompson’s blue cape replaced with a red one that matches the one worn by the God of Thunder.

2015’s The Mighty Thor comic series first established the idea of Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir, but we never thought the storyline would be brought into the MCU as Portman disappeared from the franchise back in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. In retrospect, the actress’ brief return in Avengers: Endgame – even if that mostly was just old deleted footage – teased that she was coming back to the Marvel universe in a big way.
We’ll become worthy of seeing Thor: Love and Thunder when it releases in theaters on November 9th, 2021. In the meantime, tell us, how excited are you to see Jane Foster as Thor? Have your say in the usual place below.

Deadpool Creator Explains Why Deadpool 3 Is Happening
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has previously gone on record that Deadpool 3 will be happening, contrary to rumors that the Merc with a Mouth could on his way out after the Disney and Fox shake-up. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend though, Liefeld was pretty clear about why the third movie in the series is on its way, even if we haven’t had a firm commitment from Marvel or Disney about when that film will arrive.
Liefeld explained the future of the Deadpool series as so:
“Of course they’re making [Deadpool] 3. 800 million and 800 million make 1.6 billion, that’s more than Doctor Strange did… I know there’s an accountant at Disney that goes, ‘Hey the Deadpool franchise is more popular than these 10 other franchises”.
Okay, so maybe Liefeld is being a bit dramatic here, but he does have a point, with the first two Deadpool movies raking in significant box office and records for R-rated releases. However, one of the key questions surrounding the Disney-Fox merger was how the abrasive character could fit into the current MCU. The recently discussed commitment to a Fantastic Four and new X-Men films from Marvel certainly shows that the Fox properties are on Disney’s minds, but Deadpool’s tone is a more difficult one to adapt to the studio’s style.

Liefeld goes on to be somewhat coy about the exact future of Deadpool 3, commenting:
“C’mon, I will tell you they’re going to make a [Deadpool] 3. What year? I don’t know. … What if I said no? How stupid would I be right now to say, ‘Well Jim, no they’re never making one.’ Which sounds more insane — ‘yes they are’ [or] ‘no they’re not?'”
For now, we’re pretty sure that Deadpool will be making his MCU appearance, at least in some form, within the next few years. We’ve also heard that Typhoid Mary could be the villain in the movie, as well as various theories about how everything will tie together with other Marvel properties. Furthermore, the prospect of a Deadpool show on Disney Plus hasn’t been completely ruled out, either.
We’ll be sure to let you know once there’s a more official announcement on Deadpool 3, but in the meantime, tell us, what do you think about a new movie for the Merc and how he’d fit into the MCU? As ever, let us know in the comments below.

Spider-Man 3 May Still Be Released In 2021 As Part Of Phase 4
Over the weekend, Marvel Studios announced an ambitious and shocking Phase 4 release plan, featuring ten titles ranging from a Black Widow solo film to an animated What If…? Disney Plus series. Yet, despite its jam-packed schedule, there were still quit a few highly anticipated titles left off the list. While president Kevin Feige confirmed Black Panther 2 and a Fantastic Four reboot are on the way, details on the future of a certain Web-Slinger are suspiciously quiet. If a new rumor is to be believed, though, Marvel may be making room for a Spider-Man 3 somewhere within Phase 4.
Far From Home has only been in theaters for less than a month, yet fans are already clamoring for a follow-up after that shocking mid-credits finale. Thanks to J.K. Simmons’ equally odd yet exciting cameo as J. Jonah Jameson, who reveals Peter Parker’s secret identity to the world, the Spider-Man franchise can go anywhere, and that’s exactly what Feige is promising.
In an after-panel interview with MTV, he let it slip that the studio has eleven projects in the works for the next two years, even though only ten were announced at Comic-Con. So, what’s this secret eleventh title? Well, considering FFH’s massive final twist and the fact that 23-year-old Tom Holland isn’t getting any younger, we’re willing to bet Marvel’s planing on a third standalone Spider-Man film sooner rather than later.
But why wasn’t it announced at Comic-Con? Well, for one, Marvel may not have all of the details ready. Norman Osborn is still expected to pop up sometime in Phase 4, and the next solo Spider-Man film would be the perfect place to do so. Yet, since FFH just came out a few weeks ago, it’s safe to say there isn’t even a title ready yet, let alone a script.
More importantly, there’s also a bit of legal concern regarding Marvel’s announcement of a Spider-Man 3. While the studio finally holds the sole rights to nearly every single one of its biggest characters, those under the Spider-Man umbrella still fall under Sony’s ownership. With the shared partnership between the two studios, the distribution and marketing of any Peter Parker standalone film still falls on Sony (which includes promotion at Comic-Con).
While this is all speculation that must be taken with a grain of salt, a Spider-Man 3 is certainly happening, so one hopes that Marvel will move on it before 2022. After all, by that point, Holland will be ten years older than the 16-year-old character he’s playing.
