Terminator: Dark Fate Director Says The Movie Will Scare Misogynist Trolls
Aside from Halloween‘s excellent handling of Jamie Lee Curtis and her on-screen character Laurie Strode, how many female movie heroes can you name above the age of 40? Not a whole lot, probably.
That was the question posed by the legendary James Cameron, who’s returning to the franchise he helped birth with this year’s Terminator: Dark Fate. He won’t do so alone, of course, given that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are also on board for the project.
Hamilton has naturally stolen most of the headlines, seeing as Dark Fate marks her first appearance in the series – aside from an uncredited voice role in Salvation – in 27 years. And based on the sequel’s explosive trailer, time has not been kind to the franchise’s post-Skynet world. As such, the remnants of humanity will need a hero – a leader – to help them out, and while we imagine Hamilton’s Sarah Connor will fill that role, she won’t be on her own.
Enter Mackenzie Davis’ Grace. Billed as the lead of the pic and set to play a huge role, Grace is a character we still know little about, but according to director Tim Miller, she’s going to scare “the f*ck out of” closet misogynists.
“If you’re at all enlightened, she’ll play like gangbusters. If you’re a closet misogynist, she’ll scare the f*ck out of you, because she’s tough and strong but very feminine. We did not trade certain gender traits for others; she’s just very strong, and that frightens some dudes. You can see online the responses to some of the early sh*t that’s out there, trolls on the internet. I don’t give a f*ck.”
Strong words, but it sounds like Miller’s sticking to his vision for the film and not comprising in any way, which is a good sign. And it’ll certainly be interesting to see the online reaction to Davis’ character once the pic releases.
Speaking of which, Terminator: Dark Fate will hit theaters worldwide on November 1st. It’s the day after Judgment Day, so we fully expect John, Sarah, and the T-800 to be entering a desolate, hopeless world. And we can’t wait to see what it holds in store for them.

Unused Spider-Man: Far From Home Art Shows How Different Mysterio Could’ve Looked
Spider-Man: Far From Home had a few problems but was still top flight Spidey action. I particularly enjoyed its take on Mysterio, who was considered one of the more laughable members of the Spider-Man Rogues Gallery. But Far From Home‘s spin on him as a contemporary special effects expert wearing a motion capture suit was genius.
I particularly appreciated that Jake Gyllenhaal was clearly wearing the exact mocap suit we’ve seen the actors wearing in many behind-the-scenes pics from across the MCU. And now, we’ve got a look at some unused designs for Mysterio, which show how the design we saw evolved over time.
Most interesting is the way Mysterio’s fishbowl helmet changed. While the end product featured a pretty comic-accurate globe (as seen in Steve Ditko’s original design), these concepts reveal a few other ideas, like having it inset more deeply into the collar, a kind of glass helmet contoured to the human head and an alternate classic fishbowl. They’re all interesting takes on the character, though I’m glad they went with the one we saw in the movie.
With Mysterio trying to set himself up as the successor to Earth’s Avengers, it’s neat how he subtly incorporated elements that recalled the classic team. His outfit is a conscious mash-up of Thor’s cape, Iron Man’s armor and Captain America’s suit, which appeals to both the characters in the universe and the real-world audience.
Though the finale of Spider-Man: Far From Home certainly hints that this might be the end of Mysterio, it seems it’d be all too easy to bring back a character who prides himself on being able to deceive others (and even if he is actually dead, it seems ridiculously easy for his ‘team’ to engineer his return via hologram tech). Whatever the case, he’s one of the last big Spidey villains to be immortalized on screen and they certainly did him justice.

Avengers: Endgame Directors Tease Big Announcement For Comic-Con
If the rumors are true, the San Diego Comic-Con will see Marvel Studios lay out their plans for Phase 4. With Spider-Man: Far From Home having capped off the awesome Phase 3, the future is wide open for the MCU and I’m hoping to see the official announcement of some of those projects we all know are in production. Would it be too much to hope for a trailer for Black Widow?
Whatever happens with the future of the franchise, the past is also apparently getting a decent look-in, too. Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are making an appearance at the convention and they’ve now promoted their panel with a rather cryptic teaser.
Check it out below:
— Russo Brothers (@Russo_Brothers) July 10, 2019
The video shows the date of their panel over the audio of the first screening of Avengers: Infinity War footage in 2017. So, what could this signify? Well, the Russos have a lot to be proud of after they managed to pull off two of the biggest superhero movies of all time to near-universal praise and gargantuan box office returns. There are persistent rumors that much of the core cast of Endgame could be making an appearance at Comic-Con, too, so this could be a reunion for one of the most beloved ensemble casts in modern movie history.
Here’s the official description of the panel:
“For the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of an unprecedented four-film, seven-year journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has included some of the most iconic experiences in modern cinema. Come hear directors Joe and Anthony Russo reflect on Endgame and their epic road to it as they segue into life beyond Marvel with their new company, AGBO, which happens to include an exciting array of new and old creative friends.
With their independent film studio, AGBO, the Russo Brothers aim to nurture talent and create best in class content while keeping creative control fully in the hands of the artists. This discussion will be moderated by Collider’s Editor-in-Chief Steven Weintraub.”
Whatever the case, it’s unlikely that they’ll be announcing any new MCU projects. Back in April, Anthony Russo explained that “we don’t have plans for now to make any more Marvel movies.” Given how much blood, sweat and tears they poured into Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame I don’t blame them for wanting to step back from superheroes for a bit. However, we could indeed get a full announcement of their next project Cherry, an adaptation of the 2018 Nico Walker novel about a veteran who becomes a drug addict after returning from Iraq. Cheery stuff.
