MCU Star Gwyneth Paltrow Selling Candles That Smell Like Her Private Parts

Gwyneth Paltrow has had a long and fruitful association with Marvel Studios. Her performance as Pepper Potts way back in 2008’s Iron Man was widely praised, with the film’s love story being cited as one of its best features by critics. Despite having all but retired from acting over the years, she continued to appear as Potts in the MCU in various movies, culminating in her kickass appearance in full armor as Rescue in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame. And now, she’s released a candle called “This Smells Like My Vagina.” We kid you not.

Let’s provide a bit of context, though. For those not keeping up with the weird world of alternative women’s health and beauty, Paltrow has become increasingly focused on her company Goop, which frequently pops up in the news because it sells some seriously bonkers products. For example, you can buy the Crave Vesper Vibrator Necklace for $149, a piece of jewelry that doubles as a vibrator and is perfect for a “night out or a night in.” You can also get advice on the best way to steam your vagina (doctors strongly advise against this), pick up a $27 bottle of Psychic Vampire Repellent Protection Mist or maybe consider buying a $3,490 gold dildo for that special someone in your life.

But this new candle by Bougie Parfumee (very appropriate) might have all of them beat for sheer weirdness. The product description explains that:

“This candle started as a joke between perfumer Douglas Little and GP—the two were working on a fragrance, and she blurted out, “Uhhh..this smells like a vagina”—but evolved into a funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent. (That turned out to be perfect as a candle—we did a test run at an In goop Health, and it sold out within hours.) It’s a blend of geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed that puts us in mind of fantasy, seduction, and a sophisticated warmth.”

If you’re curious about the kind of thinking that results in a vagina candle, then you’re in luck. Netflix has ordered a Goop documentary series that’ll be hosted by the actress to be aired later this year. In the meantime, if you’re wondering what life would be like if your house smelled like Gwyneth Paltrow‘s vagina, you can now find out.

8 new trailers you should watch this week

Photo: Claudette Barius / Warner Bros.

I was excited to watch Uncut Gems the other week for a couple of reasons — for one, there’s been a ton of buzz; but also, it’s one of the only movies I’ve seen in recent years that I haven’t watched the trailer for ahead of time (I happened to be on vacation when it came out, so I didn’t write this weekly column). It was nice getting to go in completely surprised.

The movie does a great job of what it sets out to do — being constantly chaotic and stressful. But I didn’t particularly care for it the way others have. It’s a lot of the same thing: one character making obviously bad and indulgent mistakes, which continually come back to bite him. We know every time what’s going to happen.

What really made it hard for me to get on board with...

Wi-Fi 6 is finally here

Illustrator by Alex Castro / The Verge

Over the past decade, our homes have filled up with more and more devices, small and large, simple and complex, all connected to Wi-Fi. Each device demands some of your router’s time and bandwidth, and that’s increasingly become a problem — the more devices you have, the more your router’s capacity is spread thin. If this continues, speeds could slow to a drag.

That’s the problem Wi-Fi 6 is meant to solve by making data delivery more efficient to ultimately offer faster speeds, and at CES this year, the new Wi-Fi standard finally felt like a reality. Wi-Fi 6 routers and devices were plentiful on the show floor. Not only that, some of the routers were affordable — a stark change from last year’s debut round of Wi-Fi 6 products. If you’re...

[SPOILERS] May Not’ve Died In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker After All

After Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrived last month, this week appeared to bring confirmation that long-running character Nien Nunb had met his end in Episode IX. The diminutive alien rebel pilot first appeared in Return of the Jedi before turning up in each of the Sequel Trilogy movies. But a brief scene in Rise‘s third act seemed to point to him meeting an untimely end off screen. Or so we thought.

First of all, fan/writer Bryan Young shared a post in honor of Nunb on Twitter. His belief that the character had died was supported by Rae Carson, author of the upcoming Rise of Skywalker Expanded Edition novelization. However, now another source even closer to the production is disputing Nunb’s death as fact, claiming that there’s evidence in the film proving he survived that we all missed.

It looks like a fan messaged Mike Quinn, the puppeteer who brings Nunb to life, and he had good news. “Yes, he survived!” Quinn wrote. “They would have shown the ship exploding. You see the Tantive IV coming into land at the end as they are celebrating.”

The Tantive IV was originally Leia’s ship in A New Hope but it reappeared in Rise co-piloted by Nien Nunb. When Palpatine gets a power boost and sends a surge of Force-lightning into the skies above Exegol, he takes out numerous ships in the process. A shot of Nunb losing control confirms the Tantive was one of those hit. Quinn claims, though, that the ship is seen to arrive back on Ajan Kloss, the Resistance HQ, in the movie’s final scenes.

With all this confusion around Nunb’s fate, it seems we’ll have to wait until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits home video and Digital HD to study the film closer and come up with a definitive answer.
