Amazon’s white-collar workers are starting to stand up for their blue-collar colleagues

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

In November 2018, more than 20,000 Googlers briefly walked off their jobs to protest the company’s lax treatment of executives who sexually harassed their subordinates. At the time, there was some debate about whether the protest was a singular event that came in response to some particularly outrageous behavior, or whether it portended the rise of a new tech labor movement. Two years later, after prominent actions by tech company employees related to their employers’ policies on climate change and government contracts, it seems clear that it was the latter — and that the movement has accelerated along with the COVID-19 pandemic.

One place where this has been true is Amazon, where employees working in warehouse and delivery jobs face...

Apple downplays iOS Mail app security flaw, says ‘no evidence’ of exploits

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge

Apple has found no evidence that recently discovered security flaws in the native iOS Mail app were exploited by hackers, the company said in a statement. “We have found no evidence they were used against customers,” the company said. It also cast doubt on whether the issues, which it admitted were present on both the iPhone and the iPad versions of its Mail app, were enough to bypass the two devices’ security protections.

Apple’s response directly contradicts the claims of security researchers at ZecOps, who said that they’d found evidence of the exploit being used against at least six high-profile targets. The flaws allowed a hacker to infect a device simply by sending it a specially-crafted email and for the victim to open it. At the...

LG’s Velvet phone is coming on May 7th

LG’s new flagship phone, the Velvet, will be revealed in full on May 7th. The company posted a teaser video clip to its Korean YouTube channel evoking raindrops and a catwalk — a reference to the phone’s unusual camera layout and supposedly fashion-forward design.

Of course, LG has pretty much already announced the Velvet, sending out PR blasts on specific features ahead of time as it tends to do with all of its phones. We know this one has a “raindrop” triple-camera setup, a symmetrical curved-glass design, a Snapdragon 765 processor with built-in 5G, and a headphone jack.

What we don’t know is the all-important price, and when it might be available outside of South Korea. LG’s online event starts at 10AM KST, or 9PM ET May 6th.

More than 12 million people attended Travis Scott’s Fortnite concert

Travis Scott’s first virtual performance wasn’t just spectacular — it also broke a record. This evening developer Epic Games revealed that the concert, which took place inside of Fortnite, saw 12.3 million concurrent players participate. The developer says this is “an all-time record” for the battle royale game. The previous record holder was last year’s Marshmello concert, which topped 10.7 million virtual attendees.

While that’s a big number, many more people saw the concert outside of the game as well, thanks to streamers broadcasting it on platforms like Twitch and YouTube. And the total viewership will only grow over the coming days. For those who missed tonight’s show, there’s good news, as Scott’s performance is a mini world tour...

Travis Scott’s first Fortnite concert was surreal and spectacular

If there’s one thing you can say about Fortnite’s live events, it’s that they keep getting more ambitious. From the original rocket launch to the mech vs. kaiju battle to the black hole that wiped out an entire island, each new event is more elaborate than the last. Now we can say the same is true of the concerts. Last year’s Marshmello show was an exciting, dynamic example of what a virtual concert could look like. This week’s Travis Scott performance blew it out of the water.

Epic had been setting the stage for the concert since last weekend — literally. Over the last few days players could see a stage being constructed at the Sweaty Sands beach, and it grew more complete as the days passed. There was a black stage on top of the water,...

Guillermo Del Toro Returning For Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark 2

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a big hit at the box office, with the PG-13 horror pic taking in over $100 million on a budget of just $28 million. Not bad, right? Given this, a sequel seemed pretty inevitable and sure enough, official word has just come through that we’ll be getting a follow-up.

Of course, this should’t come as much of a surprise, seeing as We Got This Covered told you months ago that Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark 2 was in the works. But tonight, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed our scoop, while also revealing the exciting news that both Guillermo del Toro and André Øvredal will be back as well. The former will be writing the screen story, with the latter sitting behind the camera again.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but presumably we’ll once again follow Stella (the protagonist of the last flick) as she attempts to learn more about the eponymous book written by the deceased outcast known as Sarah Bellows. She’ll also no doubt try and find and rescue her friends who were taken in the first movie.

We imagine that the sequel will adapt even more stories from the beloved source material by Alvin Schwartz, too. Classics like “Harold the Scarecrow” and the “Pale Lady” have already been brought to life, but there are a lot more terrifying tales available in the book series that the producers can use here.

Of course, it’s still early, early days for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2, but with both Guillermo del Toro and André Øvredal back on board now, the wheels seem to be spinning into motion and hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we learn more about what horrors await us in the sequel.
