Avengers: Endgame Directors Address Those Quicksilver Rumors

From the initial five-year time jump to the Time Heist which revisited previous MCU films to the astonishing final battle that brought together pretty much every hero in the franchise, Avengers: Endgame was packed full of cameos, walk-ons and quick appearances for a bevy of familiar faces from a whole bunch of different MCU movies. Truthfully, it made the ballooning cast of Avengers: Infinity War look small in comparison.

Whether it was fan favorite characters who we’ve been anxious to see again in the present – like Korg and Miek – or just those who were making one last MCU appearance with the aid of time travel – like Loki, who manages to escape his fate in an alternate timeline – there were a ton of people to look out for in the film and watching each and every cameo director Anthony and Joe Russo threw in was a real delight.

There was one major character though who folks thought they were surely going to see before heading into theaters but didn’t. We’re talking, of course, about Quicksilver, as played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson back in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If you’ll recall, while Endgame was still deep in production, numerous reports popped up of people saying they’d spotted Johnson on set, and for long time, it seemed all but certain that he’d have some kind of role in the film. But when asked in a recent interview if there were ever any plans to bring Quicksilver back, the Russos shot down the rumors, saying that he was never going to appear in Endgame at any point.

While they could just be telling another one of their classic lies here, we’re inclined to believe them. After all, there was so much going on in the movie as it was that adding yet another big cameo may’ve been overkill. Then again, we know that Ultron director Joss Whedon originally toyed with the idea of resurrecting Quicksilver right away, and that Taylor-Johnson had an option in his contract to return in future films.

So, clearly the idea of doing more with the character has been discussed over the years, and while he may not have shown up in Avengers: Endgame, we wouldn’t be surprised if he does indeed come back in some capacity in a Phase 4 or 5 release.

Charlize Theron Says Being Asked To Play Wonder Woman’s Mom Was A Slap In The Face

She may have already played a super cool secret agent in Atomic Blondebut Charlize Theron could’ve suited up as another woman warrior as well if things had gone differently. As you surely know by now, she was originally offered a part in DC’s phenomenally-successful Wonder Woman but unfortunately, had to turn it down.

At the time, we were told it was due to scheduling conflicts, but now it seems there was another reason. While speaking in a recent interview, the actress explained that being offered the role – which was that of Diana’s mom – felt like a slap in the face to her.

“This is a great example of how Hollywood like slaps you in the face when you start aging. And I was like, ‘I’m not familiar with it. What does Wonder Woman really do?’ And this person said, ‘No, it’s for Wonder Woman’s mom.’ It was the defining moment when I crossed over. And I wasn’t fully aware of it.”

While we can see Theron’s point here, it’s still a shame that things didn’t work out, as Wonder Woman would’ve seen her reunite with director Patty Jenkins for the first time since 2003’s excellent Monster. The South-African actress, who was completely unrecognizable under a prosthetic face in the movie, won an Oscar for her tour de force performance and seeing her working with Jenkins again would’ve been a real treat.

All that being said, it’s not like Theron’s absence hurt Wonder Woman. It went on to become one of the most successful comic book movies of all-time and currently has a sequel in the works. Though there were rumors early on that Theron might actually have a role in the follow-up, as far as we know, she doesn’t. But with Diana Prince looking to have a very bright future on the silver screen, perhaps there’ll be room for Charlize to join the inevitable Wonder Woman 3?

Time will tell, but for now, you can look forward to Gal Gadot’s heroine returning to theaters on June 5th, 2020.

Facebook defends itself against op-ed calling for its breakup

On Thursday, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes wrote an op-ed in The New York Times calling for the company to be broken up, saying that CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “focus on growth led him to sacrifice security and civility for clicks,” and that he should be held accountable for his company’s mistakes. Now, Facebook has responded an op-ed of its own, saying that its size isn’t the real problem, and that its success as a platform shouldn’t be punished.

Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president for global affairs and communications wrote the piece, and in it, he agrees with Hughs that “companies should be held accountable for their actions,” and that tech companies such as Facebook shouldn’t be the ones handling all of the “important social,...

The Next Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Trailer Could Premiere In July

It’s now been almost a month since the first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dropped online, which has been more than enough time for fans to scrutinize the 2-minute preview for all its worth.

With that in mind, you may be wondering when the next trailer could be coming our way. And in a recent report from the usually reliable Making Star Wars, fans are finding hope that another batch of footage might be coming sooner than previously expected. According to the site’s sources, J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer is scheduled for a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which is held from July 18th to the 21st. MSW also speculates that the panel could be used to premiere a trailer, or at least a behind-the-scenes reel.

Bear in mind that none of this has been confirmed just yet, and the theory of a July release certainly isn’t the only trailer prediction that’s made the rounds lately. Both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, for instance, followed the pattern of a teaser release during Star Wars Celebration, followed by the first full trailer in October. And since The Rise of Skywalker also released a teaser during last month’s convention, it doesn’t seem too unreasonable to predict that the film’s next trailer could still be five months away from dropping.

All the same, feel free to hold out hope that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will break from the pattern with an SDCC premiere. And if not, then the panel should at least have a few insights to offer about the new movie. After that, we’ll still have several more months to wait before the film hits theaters on December 20th.
