Today is the birthday of Sean Corey Carter. To celebrate his 50h, the artist better known as Jay Z has returned his entire music catalog to Spotify where he’s sure to cash in on this gift to subscribers.
Z’s solo work disappeared from both Apple and Spotify in April 2017, but was quickly restored to Apple Music — not so with Spotify. At the time, Spotify only said the removal was done “at the request of the artist.” Jay Z owns the rival music streaming service Tidal.

The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition is a compact speaker with 360-degree sound and, unusually for the Echo line, a built-in rechargeable battery. Amazon says the 4,800mAh capacity should be good for 10 hours of music playback and 11 hours of standby battery life.
The name of the product is a little curious — it doesn’t appear to share the Echo Input’s key feature of adding Alexa to an existing speaker setup. Instead, Amazon is pitching the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition as another way to get Alexa anywhere in the home.

The official Chinese variant of the Nintendo Switch will launch in mainland China next week, Tencent and Nintendo have announced. The bundle will sell for 2,099 yuan (~$297) and includes a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. That’s the only title officially approved for sale so far, according to China gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, although other games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Odyssey are also confirmed to be on the way.
So far it looks like Tencent and Nintendo are only releasing the original Switch model, not the smaller and cheaper Switch Lite. Preorders start today in China, and the console will formally go on sale on Tuesday, December 10th.

Thor’s Stormbreaker Might Set Up Beta Ray Bill’s MCU Debut
For his first four movies in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was inseparable from his mystical hammer Mjolnir. Until it was destroyed by his evil sister Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. When preparing to battle Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, however, the God of Thunder endeavored to get himself a new weapon, enlisting Eitri and the forges of Nidavellir to help him. The result was Stormbreaker, which seems to be more powerful than Mjolnir in every way, except one.
Over the course of Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Stormbreaker is proven to be even more durable and useful than his old hammer. It’s able to cut through the combined blast of all six Infinity Stones and it can even summon the Bifrost itself. But, unlike Mjolnir, it can be lifted by anyone. In IW, teenage Groot is able to hold it when sacrificing his own arm to create a handle for it and Captain America briefly wields it during the Wakandan battle.
Though it just so happens that Steve Rogers is worthy, he didn’t need to be to pick up Stormbreaker. The reason Mjolnir can only be wielded by Thor is because of the enchantment placed upon it by Odin in the first Thor movie. While Stormbreaker is undoubtedly strengthened by various spells and magical forces, Odin’s proclamation is not one of them. And this may well prove important to the future of the MCU.
In the comics, Thor’s horse-faced alien pal Beta Ray Bill is the owner of Stormbreaker and given his popularity, there’s an expectation that the Corbinite will finally appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. And if he does, the fact that anyone can use the axe should make it easy for him to be gifted Stormbreaker by the Asgardian. Likewise, he’ll probably give Jane Foster Mjolnir, too. So, Thor may end the film without either weapon, which would certainly fit in with the speculation that the hero will retire in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Warner Bros. Announces Joker Blu-Ray And Digital Release Date
Despite having barely finished its theatrical release – a lengthy one given its jaw-dropping financial success – Joker has already been pencilled in for its home viewing bow. The psychological psycho-drama starring Joaquin Phoenix as the titular clown will be available for Digital and Blu-ray purchase on December 17th, well in time to get it under the tree – should you wish to traumatize your loved ones this Christmas.
The movie’s official Twitter feed, @JokerMovie, made the announcement with a typically unnerving promo, though I confess that Jimmy Durante song is starting to wear thin on me. Try as I might to smile, I think I’ll have more luck without hearing the word worm its way through my mind every time I think I have a moment’s peace. If the marketeer’s aim was to convey how it feels to lose your marbles, go off your rocker, have a screw loosened, go round the bend (OK, message received), subliminally fraying the emotional stability of their viewers was a smart promotional approach.

Now that the sanity of this bean-counter has been compromised, there’s little left to do other than rattle off your staple Joker factoids. Let’s see. The highest grossing R-rated movie of all time? Check. The most profitable comic book movie of all time? Check. The most commercially successful clown advert ever made? I’ll admit to making that one up.
When you let the dust settle on all that trivia you’ve probably read a hundred times elsewhere (I’ve written a few), Joker’s been a pretty big deal, and totally unexpected given all the other superhero material that’s been crowding the box office this year, like Captain Marvel, Shazam!, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Some things you just never see coming though, right?

New Hanukkah Trailer Teases Horror Legend Sid Haig’s Final Film
A new trailer for festive horror movie Hanukkah gives us a last look at horror legend Sig Haig, who sadly passed away in September at the age of 80.
Many years ago, Judah Lazarus (Haig), a serial murderer known as the Hanukiller, was shot dead right before he was about to sacrifice his young son Obadiah. In the intervening time, Obadiah disappeared without a trace, only to now resurface and take on his father’s bloody work as a force of warped morality, killing Jews not affording proper reverence to their faith. A number of twenty-somethings become targets of his wrath and, aided by a creepy rabbi who appears suspiciously knowledgeable about events, must embrace the teachings of the Torah if they want to survive the holidays.
Although Haig had a rush of notoriety in recent years from the important role of Captain Spaulding from Rob Zombie’s trio of throwback grindhouse flicks House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell, he had a career that was lengthy and varied. He often appeared in low-budget and independent films, including a run of Jack Hill’s blaxploitation and women in prison movies in the ‘70s, such as Coffy, Foxy Brown and The Big Doll House. For his final role to be an appearance in a movie inspired by the era at which he was most renowned definitely seems a fitting tribute to his life and work.
The pic also features the final role of omnipresent character actor Dick Miller, and a bonus feature on the home video release sees the final takes of each of the two prolific performers. Not only that, but as well as VOD and Blu-Ray, Hanukkah is also being released on VHS, an increasingly popular marketing tactic among horror filmmakers producing works that take inspiration from those made in the days of the format’s boom in popularity in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, creating even more of a feel that this movie is indeed a transplant from that era to modern times.
