Netflix Is Adding A Bunch Of Great New Horror Movies In April

Netflix just released the full list of everything that’s new on the streamer this April, with various must-see original movies and TV series and freshly licensed content on the way over the course of the month. There’s enough to satisfy subscribers whatever their tastes, but horror fans will be particularly pleased by the handful of spooky films coming to the platform.

On April 1st, for instance, we’ve got three solid flicks – two classics and one underrated entry in horror icon Sam Raimi’s back catalog. First of all, the original Insidious film debuts that day. As directed by James Wan, it stars The Conjuring‘s Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as two beleaguered parents whose comatose son is used as a vessel for malevolent spirits from another realm.

Fans of 90s horror will be pleased to see the very first installment in the Leprechaun franchise go up on the 1st, too. Star Wars’ Warwick Davis features as the vengeful Irish creature who unleashes mayhem after his pot of gold is stolen. This is the one that stars a pre-Friends Jennifer Anniston. Also, don’t miss The Possession, produced by Raimi and starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Its Netflix arrival is pretty timely as the duo are reteaming for The Unholy, which hits VOD on April 2nd.

The rest of the month delivers coming-of-age dark thriller What Lies Below on the 4th and Chinese existential horror The Soul on the 14th. Not to mention two further titles on the 16th. These are Guillermo del Toro’s gothic ghost story Crimson Peak, featuring Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain, and sci-fi horror Synchronic, led by The Falcon and Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie, about a new drug that has peculiar effects. And last but not least is Stowaway on the 22nd, a thriller set in space.

Crimson Peak

See below for every horror movie coming to the platform next month:

Pierce Brosnan To Play Doctor Fate Opposite Dwayne Johnson In Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most famous faces on the planet and arguably the biggest movie star around, so you can bet that he’s going to be plastered over every imaginable piece of marketing material for any project he signs on for. Of course, it also helps that he’s a one man publicity machine, with a massive audience on social media.

This will surely benefit Warner Bros. and the upcoming Black Adam, which is finally about to begin production after many false starts, delays and setbacks. And though the film will undoubtedly be the Dwayne Johnson Show through and through, he’s far from the only exciting actor on board. Joining him will be Sarah Shahi, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell and more, while The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Pierce Brosnan has been added to the cast as well.

The outlet says that the former James Bond star has signed on as Doctor Fate, a founding member of the Justice Society, and though plot details are being kept under wraps, you can only imagine that it’ll be a meaty role. After all, you don’t rope in someone like Brosnan and not give him much to do.

For those unfamiliar with the character, the Doctor Fate mantle has been passed down through a handful of people over the years, though the most famous iteration of the hero is Kent Nelson, who gets his powers from the golden Helmet of Nabu which, when worn, causes the individual to be possessed by an ancient sorcerer’s spirit. It’s Nelson who Brosnan will be playing as well, reports THR, putting to bed any speculation over which version of Fate we’d be seeing in the pic.

Unfortunately, that’s as much as we have right now in regards to the actor’s role, but with Black Adam beginning to heat up, hopefully we’ll learn more soon. Watch this space.
