LG’s stylish mid-range Velvet smartphone gets its grand reveal

Image: LG

The LG Velvet has finally officially launched in South Korea, following weeks of teases and announcements. As expected, the phone features a “raindrop” triple rear camera array, is powered by a Snapdragon 765, and has a 6.8-inch OLED display with a small central notch. Details about its global launch are expected to come later this month.

LG has taken such a gradual approach with the reveal that we knew practically everything about the Velvet already. The South Korean electronics giant showed off its name and design in sketch form back in April, then announced its processor along with additional details the following week.

We also knew the specs of its cameras, display, and battery thanks to a blog post published late last month. The...

Animal Crossing boosts Nintendo sales despite COVID-19

Nintendo Switch sales were up 34 percent year-on-year last quarter as the company moved 3.29 million units, despite acknowledging that production has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a big sales driver, with 11.77 million units sold as of the end of March 31st.

That’s enough to make it the seventh-best-selling Switch title yet even with only ten days worth of sales data accounted for. Nintendo adds that New Horizons actually sold 13.41 million copies in its first six weeks, though, which likely takes it past Pokémon Let’s Go! into sixth place.

Japanese sales figures had already revealed that New Horizons was a big hit. The game sold more in its first three days than any other Animal Crossing or...

Smart home platform Wink will require a monthly subscription starting next week

Image: Wink

Smart home platform Wink will require customers to pay a $4.99 per month subscription fee starting May 13th, the company announced today. That gives Wink users just seven days to decide if they want to pay a monthly fee for a service that was previously offered for free as part of owning a Wink product.

If you opt not to sign up for Wink’s subscription, “you will no longer be able to access your Wink devices from the app, with voice control or through the API, and your automations will be disabled on May 13,” according to Wink’s announcement blog. That seems to mean that you’ll lose the ability to use non-Wink-made smart home products connected to a Wink-managed setup. Though if you decide to subscribe later, your device connections,...

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Reboot To Feature A 60 Year Old Leatherface

We haven’t seen the last of Leatherface, it seems. Not even close.

Yes, as you surely know by now, Legendary inked a deal earlier this year that will see Ryan and Andy Tohill get behind the camera for a full-fledged reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And we couldn’t be more excited about it.

With a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, and Bad Hombre’s Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues on producing duties, we’ve been promised that this fresh take on the iconic horror franchise will bring us “exactly what the fans want,” as the Tohill siblings head back to ground zero of Leatherface and his cannibalistic family. But it’ll also be a bit of a departure from what’s come before thanks to the fact that, among other things, it’ll feature a 60 year old version of the aforementioned chainsaw wielding maniac.

According to The Illuminerdi, the project will bring us a Leatherface who’s getting up their in age, as he’s said to be 60 at the time the story takes place. Furthermore, he’s characterized as “having a big build. He is not a bodybuilder, and may even be slightly obese. He also wears church clothes that are too tightly fitted.”

But that’s not all, as the role is also apparently a non-speaking one, with the character primarily expressing himself with “guttural noises that range from a howling belly laugh to a pig-like squeal.” Color us intrigued.

Unfortunately, there’s no casting news to report on just yet – for Leatherface or any of the other parts, for that matter – but with things beginning to heat up now, we imagine it’s just a matter of time before we find out who’ll be getting in front of the camera for this next stab at The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And we can only hope that it turns out a lot better than the franchises’s past few efforts.

Justice League League Dark: Apokolips War Reveals Constantine’s Surprising Ex-Lover

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is out now, marking the thrilling conclusion to years of DC animated movies. The film brings together the titular supernatural superhero team, the Justice League themselves and the Suicide Squad, with all the heroes pitted against Darkseid and his Apokoliptian forces. But, amongst all that epicness, there’s one hilarious small scene that fans can’t stop talking about. And it’s to do with Constantine’s surprising relationship history.

This sequence, as shared by Twitter user @Jo_Zatarra, has gone viral on social media, as the clip in question sees Raven (Taissa Farmiga) and John Constantine (Matt Ryan) approaching Task Force X’s King Shark and Harley Quinn. The occult detective reacts with horror when he sees who it is, commenting that it’s his ex. Raven quips that the mental image of Constantine and Harley together is “gross.” But it’s not Harley who’s Constantine’s ex.

See for yourself below:

Yup, apparently Constantine once had a romantic fling with… King Shark, of all people. We’ve always known that the Hellblazer was bisexual, something that’s accurately portrayed across all the mediums, but, uh, this still comes as a bit of a shock. And fans have had a field day with it on Twitter.

The guy knows what he likes. Gotta appreciate that.

Can someone add Guillermo Del Toro into this thread? This might get him back on board the shelved JLD movie.

OK, everyone stop tweeting. This hilarious Simpsons reference has won the internet today.

Does anyone else now want to see a Constantine and King Shark romance play out in the Arrowverse? The latter hasn’t been seen for a season or so on The Flash, after all. Bring him over to Legends of Tomorrow and watch the sparks fly on board the Waverider.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is available digitally now and arrives on 4K/Blu-Ray/DVD from May 19th.

Spotify, TikTok, and other popular iOS apps were crashing due to a Facebook issue

Countless iOS apps experienced problems launching Wednesday evening, according to multiple reports on Twitter and crowdsourced user reports on Downdetector. The issues seem to have started around 6:30PM ET, and Spotify, TikTok, Pinterest, Tinder, and more were affected, according to Downdetector. I personally experienced problems with Spotify and GrubHub, but they are both working for me now, so it seems apps are starting to starting work as normal again.

The issue was caused by an apparent problem with a Facebook software development kit (SDK) tool that’s used to power sign-in features for many of the apps. Many developers have reported problems with the SDK in this thread on GitHub. You didn’t need to be logging into the apps via...
