Will Apple Watch sleep tracking in watchOS 7 Sherlock third party apps?

Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verg

Although we have no idea if Apple plans on holding a Spring hardware event or even its annual summer WWDC developer’s conference, we are starting to have a clearer idea of what’s coming than we did a couple weeks ago. That’s because 9to5Mac has been posting a series of stories based on information gleaned from the next version of iOS.

Weirdly enough, a lot of yesterday’s leaks from iOS weren’t so much about iOS itself as they were about accessories for the iPhone. For example, the Apple Watch may soon be able to detect oxygen levels, track sleep, and let users share watchfaces. I use the Apple Watch for sleep tracking now with Sleep++. Hopefully with official support Apple will automate some of the stuff I have to do manually every...

Jack Dorsey bought himself more time as Twitter CEO, but it might not matter

Jack Dorsey photographed during London Tech Week Jack Dorsey photographed during London Tech Week | Photo by Matt Crossick/PA Images via Getty Images

On Thursday, after Jack Dorsey’s first public comments since he was targeted by activist investor Elliott Management, I suggested that the real drama was just beginning. On some level, for reasons we’ll get into, this may be true. But on another level it was dead wrong. The fight some of us expected between Elliott and Twitter did not materialize. Instead, Twitter folded like a card table.

Here’s Scott Deveau in Bloomberg:

Twitter Inc. will appoint three new directors to its board and create a committee to review its leadership and governance, as part of an agreement with activist investor Elliott Management Corp. and private equity firm Silver Lake. The pact leaves Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey in place.

Silver Lake will also...

Arlo and Blink cameras are boosting security to beat hackers

Netgear Arlo Baby Cameras like the Arlo Baby should be very secure. | Image: Arlo

Owners of both Arlo and Blink camera systems have been notified recently of required changes to their accounts meant to enhance security. Arlo users will be required to turn on two-factor authentication by the end of the year, while Amazon’s Blink is still taking baby steps towards enabling 2FA. The changes follow the much-publicized hacking of Amazon’s Ring security cameras in December that allowed strangers to peer into homes and harass occupants.

Arlo users had the option to enable two-step verification since last year. But a message sent to owners now says that two-step verification will be required by the end of 2020, according to Android Police. Arlo’s FAQ says that logins can be verified via push notification to a previously...

Tesla just made its one millionth car

The one millionth vehicle was a red Tesla Model Y. | Image: @elonmusk

Tesla has produced one million electric cars, the company’s CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter. Musk made the announcement by sharing a picture of the car, a red Model Y, and congratulated the Tesla team on hitting the milestone. It’s a significant moment for an automaker that was only founded in 2003.

Tesla released its first consumer car, the Roadster, back in 2008, meaning it’s taken a little over twelve years to hit this million-car milestone. However, it could end up hitting the two million mark a lot sooner based on current targets. In its January earnings report, the company said it hopes to ship over 500,000 cars worldwide in 2020. Established automakers like Toyota or the Volkswagen Group each produce over ten million vehicles a...

Latest iOS 14 leaks include new fitness app, expanded Pencil support, and more

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge

Yesterday 9to5Mac posted details of several new features it found in supposed unreleased iOS 14 code, and now MacRumors is adding to the deluge of leaks in a series of posts. It’s not clear that every one of these features pertains to iOS 14 specifically, but they do all sound like the sort of thing that could accompany a major software upgrade from Apple.

First up is a new fitness app codenamed “Seymour” and possibly to be called Fit or Fitness in its shipping form. It’s said to be a standalone app targeting iOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14, rather than a replacement for the current Activity app. The new app reportedly lets you download fitness videos with different workouts and activities that you can perform as the Apple Watch tracks...

Tom Holland Clears Up That Strange Avengers: Infinity War Moment Between Spider-Man And Star-Lord

One of the mysteries that has always haunted Avengers: Infinity War and its fans is how Star-Lord was able to catch Spider-Man in a headlock despite being a regular human.

The tricky thing about having so many superheroes with different abilities on the big screens in a single movie is to write the script in a way that eludes plot holes or logical errors if devoted fans were to think too much about it. And while the Russo brothers had a great test run with Captain America: Civil War and managed to do a pretty good job with the last two movies of the Infinity Saga, at least so far as these inconsistencies are concerned, eagle-eyed fans are an inevitable ordeal. To their disadvantage, many fans obsessively rewatch these pics over and over again and new slip-ups are bound to pop up every now and then.

For instance, during Infinity War, when both the Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man’s team of new Avengers arrive on Thanos’ homeworld, they get into a bit of a scuffle. In the heat of conflict, Spider-Man, who has enhanced strength and agility, not to mention the spider-sense to get him out of danger, is easily caught in a hold by Star-Lord. So I guess the question that asks itself is: How did this happen?

Well, the writers might have their own explanations about what really went wrong there, but Tom Holland just gave us the perfect answer, saying in the following in a recent interview:

“I wanted to be cuddled by Chris Pratt.”

In Spidey’s defense, the character was pretty disoriented when he arrived on the alien planet, so it’s fair to assume that he wasn’t exactly at the top of his game. Still, fans shouldn’t get too hung up on details like this, lest they ruin their experience of a movie franchise that features a literal god who can summon lightning down to the ground.

What do you think about this slip-up, though? And did these small narrative inconsistencies ruin your experience of watching Avengers: Infinity War? Sound off in the usual spot below.
