Tesla’s Model 3 scores the company’s first top safety award from IIHS
Tesla often touts that its cars are really safe, but the company has just received a specific recognition of that safety for the first time ever: the Model 3 was just awarded “top safety pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Model S had previously fallen short of earning top marks from IIHS, and the Model X was never tested by the nonprofit group,
The Model 3 is the second battery electric car to earn the award, as Audi’s E-Tron was the first to earn the honor back in August. Like the E-Tron, the Model 3 earned “good” ratings in all categories, which is the best distinction the IIHS gives out. The Model 3 was only really dinged in two places. IIHS said that pre-June 2018 versions of the car only had...

Seann William Scott Gives Us An American Pie 5 Update
It’s hard to believe that American Pie debuted twenty years ago. It seems like just yesterday that we were all entertained by wild band camp stories and hilarious advice from Jim’s awkward dad. Two decades later, the iconic R-rated comedy has spawned three sequels and countless spinoffs. It’s the inspiration for numerous movies that have come after it as well and has a loyal base of fans who are still eagerly awaiting the release of American Pie 5.
Whether or not the fifth installment of the franchise ever actually comes to fruition remains to be seen, though. The follow-up to the well-received American Reunion was announced way back in 2012 following the movie’s domestic success. After seven years, however, audiences are still waiting on a next chapter and Sean William Scott, who plays Steve Stifler in the series, recently offered his thoughts on if we’ll ever get to see where the gang ends up, saying:
“I love those guys so much. And like, obviously, if I was worried about being typecast, I wouldn’t have done four of those movies. I just don’t know if there’s an appetite for that genre of films. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are killing it. They’re consistently, every time they put out a movie, it’s not only awesome, but they’re successful. So thank God for them because they’re keeping a hope that we can continue to make R-rated comedies, but unfortunately, It’s not a genre of films that have really been working. In fact, obviously, it’s been horror movies and psychological thrillers. I just think it’s always funny to see Stifler at different stages of his life. So to see him in his mid-forties just sounds really funny to me. But I don’t know. I haven’t really heard anything.”
The last flick made $234 million worldwide, which is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it’s true that the appetite for these types of movies might’ve died down since then. Looking back on the first American Pie, there are some moments that definitely wouldn’t be received well in today’s culture and an overtly sexual comedy revolving around a primarily white cast might not pull in the numbers it once did.
Then again, the series can always adapt to be more suitable for the current climate without sacrificing all of the aspects that made it an instant classic in the first place. Given how legendary the franchise is, there’s definitely still an appetite out there for those who loved the original and hopefully, Universal will take a chance and bring the gang back together for at least one more go-round in American Pie 5.

Rob Zombie And 3 From Hell Cast Send Well Wishes To Sid Haig
Unfortunately, this week’s long-awaited 3 From Hell premiere was overshadowed with concern for Sid Haig. One of the franchise’s stars was noticeably absent from the event as he continues to recover from a recent accident that landed him in the ICU. Though he is said to be in better condition now after a recent update from his wife explained what had happened.
Still, director Rob Zombie and the rest of the actor’s coworkers all made sure to wish him a speedy recovery on the red carpet, with the filmmaker and his stars commenting as so:
“Sid once told me that everyone in his family lives a really long time, so I’m holding him to that,” Zombie said.
“We’re all wishing Sid well,” Jeff Daniel Phillips, who plays Warden Virgil Dallas Harper in the movie, added. “It’s too bad that he couldn’t be here tonight because he’s really the anchor for this whole series. He’s a treasure, and we’re all so appreciative that he was involved in this from the get-go. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Sid.”
“I love Sid so much,” Dee Wallace, who frequently collaborates with Zombie, said. “We’ve been buddies forever, and I’m holding him in my heart. I just know that he’s going to be fine.”
“He’s doing better from what I’ve heard.” Bill Moseley, who portrays Otis B. Driftwood, added. “I just know from his Instagram account that his wife says he’s days away from getting out of the ICU.”
Unfortunately, it sounds like Haig’s health has been on the decline for a little while now. Prior to this latest mishap, he’d undergone surgery that left him in pretty rough shape. In fact, Zombie was so worried by the actor’s physical condition that he decided to alter the series mainstay’s primary role in the movie to a much more diminished one, meaning the threequel has far less of Sid Haig than we thought it would. Hopefully though, Haig will soon make a full recovery and will be back to horrifying audiences in no time at all.
As for 3 From Hell, it will be in theaters for one more night tonight before becoming available on Blu-Ray next month, on October 15th. And for our very own verdict on Zombie’s threequel, be sure to check out Matt Donato’s review.

Sylvester Stallone Still Wants To Make A Tango & Cash Sequel
Unsurprisingly for somebody that has a new movie to promote, Sylvester Stallone has been all over the news recently. The actor has been doing the press rounds for upcoming action sequel Rambo: Last Blood, and has been fielding questions about everything from his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to his continued role in the Rocky franchise.
Last Blood marks the fifth outing for bandana-wearing Vietnam vet John Rambo, and Stallone is certainly no stranger to a sequel, having played Rocky Balboa eight times, headlined three Expendables and Escape Plans apiece, as well as lending support in Spy Kids 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. One of Sly’s fan-favorite movies that never got a sequel though was the 1989 buddy flick Tango & Cash, which has gone on to become a cult classic for fans of the genre.
However, it appears that the 73 year-old hasn’t given up on the hope of making a follow-up even after 30 years, admitting that the one hold-up on a potential Tango & Cash 2 is the reluctance of co-star Kurt Russell to reprise his role as cowboy boot-wearing Lieutenant Gabe Cash.
“I would do Tango & Cash in a second. I know, with Kurt, it’s not about a caper… it’s just us doing our thing.”
While the two aging stars have at least discussed the project, it seems that Russell isn’t too keen on the idea, with Stallone recalling one of the conversations they had about the sequel that made it sound as though he’s going to take a lot of convincing to sign up.
“‘I don’t know, Sly… There we were in our prime and now we’re in our un-prime. I dunno.’ So I said, ‘Kurt, I’m telling you, ya gotta go in on this’. So he said, ‘I’ll talk to you when I get back’.”
Kurt Russell seems to be making a smart decision here. While Stallone clearly has no issues about returning to play the same character even after a long absence, the idea of seeing two actors with a combined age of 141 headline an action movie isn’t likely to appeal to modern audiences. Tango & Cash wasn’t exactly a smash hit, either, suffering from a troubled production that saw director Andrei Konchalovsky fired, and the movie only just about made back its $55m budget at the box office.
Tango & Cash is better left alone as an enduring 80’s favorite when the buddy cop genre was at its peak, and a modern-day sequel would be very unlikely to recapture that charm. Maybe Stallone will just go the Cobra route though and reboot the entire thing as a TV show anyway?

Netflix is debating bonuses for directors with popular or award-winning films
Netflix is mulling over paying some form of bonuses to filmmakers whose movies perform well on the streaming platform or nab prestigious awards, according to a report from Bloomberg. The tactic would be a way to win over on-the-fence directors and producers who might be shopping a project around at multiple streaming services, while also entertaining the idea of a traditional theatrical release.
According to Bloomberg, the bonus idea is still being debated internally, but it could be a costly change in strategy for Netflix. The company has traditionally covered the cost of production and paid fixed premiums to filmmakers and producers on top of that.
Hollywood operates differently. Studios tend to grant talent — typically directors and...
