I stepped away from my computer for dinner, halfway through writing a story for The Verge. When I got back, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Windows 10 had restarted my computer without permission yet again — to install yet another forced OS update onto my solid state drive.
The craziest part: When my machine finished rebooting, it now contained the exact thing I’d been writing about before I was rudely interrupted. Microsoft had installed unsolicited, unwanted web app versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook onto my computer.

This week has been good to DC fans as we’ve received a glut of new set pics from filming on The Batman in the UK. Leaked photos have given us fresh looks at Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, John Turturro as Falcone and more. And now, another photo that’s come our way might seem innocuous at first glance, but it actually potentially contains a huge revelation about the movie’s universe: Superman lives.
As shared on Twitter, this image from The Batman‘s London set features a man in what’s unmistakably the hero’s costume. If you’re thinking this is no big deal and this is just some guy in cosplay, the tweeter who posted the pic confirmed that this mystery Supes is indeed part of the production and is one of the film’s extras. They infer that this means the movie contains a Halloween or costume party scene.
Here’s what they shared along with the photo:
Sooooo @SamMcTweets just sent me this pic. Sooooo this means two things one this is 100% a Halloween party And 2 DOES SUPERMAN F**KING EXIST IN THE REEVERSE!!!!!! Also btw this dude was on the extra’s bus and got into set. This ain’t a random dude.
Of course, the bigger repercussion of this is that if someone is going to a party dressed as Superman, that must mean that the character exists in The Batman‘s universe. Not only that, but he’s already an established superhero even though Pattinson’s Dark Knight is just starting out. Depending on how Warner Bros. expands this corner of the franchise after the film, then, this could mean big things for this Earth and Battinson’s relationship with other heroes.
It doesn’t seem likely that the real Superman will appear in the pic, and this costumed guy will probably be just a brief easter egg on screen, but if that’s the case, then it’s an intriguing bit of worldbuilding for the universe that Matt Reeves is crafting with The Batman, which sits outside the DCEU. At least, until The Flash movie shakes up the multiverse in a big way.
Fans were taken by surprise when it was announced at DC FanDome that a live-action Static Shock movie is now in early development, and that it’ll be a theatrical venture, not something made for HBO Max.
It was unexpected, sure, but certainly came as welcome news and while there’s still no updates on casting or plot details, The Hollywood Reporter brings word tonight that none other than Michael B. Jordan will be producing the project through Outlier Society, his Warner Bros.-based banner.
Again, we don’t yet know who’ll star in the feature, but speaking about his excitement to be involved, here’s what the actor shared:
“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.”
For those who may not know, Static Shock is the common alter ego of 16-year-old Virgil Hawkins and after being created for the page by Dwayne McDuffie back in the 90s, he found mainstream attention thanks to the fondly remembered Static Shock animated show that was on the air from 2000-2004 and was part of the DC Animated Universe.
He might not carry the same name recognition as a Batman or Superman, or even a Green Arrow or Flash, but he’s certainly got a lot of fans and folks have been crying out for a live-action, big budget movie for the character for some time now. And at last, it seems they’re about to get one, with Michael B. Jordan leading the charge.
But tell us, who would you like to see suit up as Static Shock? Let us know by dropping a comment down below.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, the general assumption was that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 3 would pick up directly where Far From Home left off, and find Peter Parker on the run while trying to protect his friends and family after having his secret identity revealed to the world by J.K. Simmons’ returning J. Jonah Jameson.
Once it was announced Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, though, it became clear that Jon Watts’ threequel was shaping up very differently, with speculation instantly beginning about the potential introduction of a live-action Spider-Verse. And when Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was also confirmed, Spider-Man 3 swiftly became the most hotly-anticipated MCU movie on the horizon.
But circling back to the live-action Spider-Verse, and we now have a pretty good idea of how that may look thanks to YouTuber Smasher’s latest video, which imagines exactly such a thing. Impressive as always, you can check out their work up above.
It’s a tantalizing glimpse at what we may soon see on the big screen and obviously, the prospect of witnessing three different iterations of the web-slinger coming together is a hugely exciting one. Unfortunately, there’ve been conflicting reports regarding whether or not Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are indeed signed on, but at this point, it looks like the studio is just trying to keep the surprise under wraps.
After all, there’ve been months of rumors now pointing to a live-action Spider-Verse starting to take shape and quite frankly, if it’s even remotely close to what Smasher’s video depicts, we’re in for a real treat. Let’s just hope we get some official confirmation on the matter sooner rather than later.
