Amazon will start selling cashierless Go system to other retailers

Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge

Amazon will start selling the technology behind its cashierless Amazon Go stores to other retailers, according to Reuters. Amazon reportedly has “several” retailers already signed up to use the system, which will be marketed as Just Walk Out technology by Amazon. A website, set to be launched today, according to Reuters, will invite other retailers to inquire about the service.

Amazon’s cashierless system uses a combination of ceiling-mounted cameras and shelf-weight sensors to automatically track customers and items as they move around a store. Once someone has finished their shopping, they can walk out of the store without needing to scan anything or interact with a cashier. Their account will be automatically billed, and a receipt...

The Unihertz Atom XL is like a rugged iPhone SE

Either Unihertz is a really fun company to work at, or it decides each new phone concept by pulling random specs out of a hat. Maybe both. How else do you explain the existence of, say, the Titan, its rugged BlackBerry Passport-aping Android phone? Every Unihertz device must have a tiny audience, but I can only assume the people in that audience are overjoyed that the company exists.

That brings me to Unihertz’ latest effort, the Atom XL. As the name suggests, it’s a larger version of the Chinese company’s rugged second phone, 2018’s Atom. But since the Atom was tiny, with a 2.45-inch 432x240 screen, the new Atom XL still ends up being diminutive by modern smartphone standards.

The XL has a 4-inch screen with a resolution...

Paramount Reportedly Want The Russo Brothers To Direct G.I. Joe Reboot

The Russo brothers are on the top of everyone’s list when it comes to putting out a potential blockbuster and now it seems we may have an idea of what property they might take on next. Paramount is rebooting G.I. Joe, that much we know, and apparently, they’re looking at the Avengers: Endgame directors to help them reignite the franchise.

Paramount’s first mission to bring G.I. Joe to the big screen wasn’t a total failure. 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra starring Channing Tatum and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation starring Dwayne Johnson were both profitable films, but their returns from the box office were nowhere near where the studio had hoped. So, the franchise ended up being relieved of duty instead of getting another sequel. But now it seems Paramount is ready to rally the troops once again, and to lead them into battle will be a pair of filmmakers that’ve directed the highest-grossing movie of all-time.

According to our sources – the same ones who told us Transformers is being rebooted and National Treasure 3 is in development, both of which have since been confirmed – Paramount’s G.I. Joe reboot is coming soon and the studio is reportedly hoping the Russo brothers will helm the project. It’s unclear if they’ll agree to take on this ambitious cinematic endeavor or if they’ve even been approached yet, but the studio’s definitely interested in them.

Of course, the Russo brothers aren’t the only big names rumored to be in the mix for the next cinematic chapter of the G.I. Joe legacy. Transformers star Mark Wahlberg is reportedly being eyed for the role of Duke, while Henry Golding’s Snake Eyes, who already has a spinoff coming, will also be in the film.

Paramount seems to be betting big on the Joes cashing in for the studio and they’re definitely pulling out all the stops to ensure that the mission is a complete success this time around. And if all this star power ends up making the ranks for the G.I. Joe reboot, then it looks like the franchise will be making a triumphant return to theaters.

Keira Knightley Says She Fell Asleep While Filming Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Do you remember Keira Knightley being in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace? That’s right, the young actress played Queen Amidala’s (Natalie Portman) handmaiden as well as her decoy, Sabe. While it wasn’t technically her first role in a movie, it was certainly her biggest at the time.

When asked by Total Film magazine about her experience on the blockbuster, Knightley remembers being very uncomfortable, explaining that:

“I mean, I was 12. I literally don’t remember,” she shared. “I remember the headdress being so heavy, it gave me a headache. I really remember the headache from one of the headdresses. And I remember being in the background for such a long time that I’d actually fallen asleep. I was just sitting in a chair, and I was in the background, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I really remember that. But apart from that, I don’t remember anything else about it.”

So, she’s saying Hollywood isn’t as glamorous as we think, right? Knightley has always been refreshingly candid about her experiences in the industry and once recalled an embarrassing moment in Love Actually where she had to wear a hat in a scene because she had a giant zit on her forehead. She also said recently that after having two daughters, she’s done doing nude scenes due to her body changing after the two pregnancies.

Though the actress quickly rose to prominence in a number of big movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, King Arthur and Love Actually, she’s also the queen of costume dramas from her work in Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, The Duchess and Anna Karenina. But for the last seven years, she’s appeared in a number of interesting smaller ensembles like Begin Again, Laggies and Everest. And she was terrific in last year’s under-seen spy thriller, Official Secrets.

Her upcoming projects will continue that run of character-driven stories in movies, too. She’ll appear in Silent Night and Misbehaviour, which tells the true tale of a group of women in 1970 who aim to disrupt the Miss World beauty competition in London.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is not remembered fondly, of course, but going back to see young actors like Knightley in it who went on to become bigger stars is always interesting.
