Power Rangers Being Rebooted Again, Will Star Brand New Cast
Lionsgate’s Power Rangers reboot didn’t exactly set the box office on fire when it released back in 2017, but the franchise got another shot at life after Hasbro took over the brand from Saban last year and revealed that they were working on a new film with Paramount, who’d previously produced the G.I. Joe and Transformers franchises with them. However, since then, there’s been no concrete updates on when the property might be headed back to theaters.
Make no mistake about it though, as Hasbro still has every intention of bringing the Rangers to the big screen again, but it seems when we see them next, it’ll be in yet another reboot, rather than a sequel to the 2017 movie. Confirming this was Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery, who recently participated in a Reddit AMA to promote his role in Stranger Things season 3.
When asked if there were plans for a follow-up to the aforementioned film, the actor was quite candid and said the following:
“I think there is a movie in the works but it’s not with me and the cast. So yes but not with us.”
Well, it doesn’t get much clearer than that, eh? Of course, Hasbro has yet to confirm this, but there’s no reason to doubt Montgomery and given that most of the cast from the first film are quickly becoming pretty big stars with very busy schedules, not to mention they all look a lot older now, too, we imagine it’d be hard to pull off a direct sequel anyways.
Fortunately for Hasbro though, the Power Rangers have been rebooted into new teams many, many times on television. As such, it shouldn’t be that big a deal to give us yet another new group on the big screen. Hopefully we start in media res though and leave the origin story confined to a quick flashback.
