A Great Underrated Brad Pitt Movie Hits Netflix Next Month

After Ridley Scott’s Gladiator burst onto the scene in 2000 and raked in over $460 million at the box office, going on to win five Academy Awards from thirteen nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, the rest of Hollywood suddenly jumped on the bandwagon and decided to make big budget action-driven epics of their own.

Over the next few years countless movies clearly inspired by that success were released including The Last Samurai, Alexander, King Arthur and The Alamo, and Scott himself even returned to the well twice more with Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood, but the only title that manage to exceed Gladiator at the box office was Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy.

troy

At a cost of $185 million, it was one of the most expensive movies ever made at the time, and the Air Force One director assembled a star-studded ensemble led by Brad Pitt that also featured Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Brendan Gleeson, Rose Byrne and the legendary Peter O’Toole. Troy may have provided style over substance, but the spectacle was often awe-inspiring in a lavish production that threw every penny up there on the screen.

Reviews were positive if not overly enthusiastic, but it provides plenty of bruising battle sequences and overwrought drama for those seeking nothing but pure escapism. The Director’s Cut is a vastly superior movie that adds 30 minutes of additional footage, but the theatrical edition still provides plenty of bang for your buck. Brad Pitt‘s accent might leave a lot to be desired, but his performance as Achilles is powered by nothing other than A-list magnetism and charisma. Troy is one of the more underrated blockbusters of the last 15 years or so, but should prove very popular with subscribers when it arrives on Netflix next month.

2021 Will Now Bring Us 4 MCU Movies

Today brought the news that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were dreading, as Black Widow was pushed back another six months. Natasha Romanoff’s long-awaited solo outing will now hit theaters a full year behind schedule, but that wasn’t the only Phase Four project hit by a further delay.

While it wasn’t as extensive as the last reshuffle that saw Marvel Studios’ entire slate of upcoming projects rearranged, Chloe Zao’s Eternals was also shunted by nine months, and the MCU’s next cosmic adventure now won’t be seen until November 2021. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings got off pretty lightly by comparison, moving from May to June of 2021 while Spider-Man 3, Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness remain in their previously announced dates.

The news won’t go down well as it officially lengthens the gap between new big screen installments to 22 months, but one small positive is that the MCU will have four new movies debuting in a single calendar year for the first time ever. Clearly, the box office isn’t rebounding as quickly or strongly as Hollywood would have hoped, and this could be far from the last change made to the release schedule.

There’s no word on how this might yet affect The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was rumored to connect to Black Widow in a way that meant Sam and Bucky’s spinoff had to follow Cate Shortland’s prequel instead of precede it. The MCU‘s second Disney Plus show has been delayed to next year, but no official premiere date has been announced as of yet, leading fans to expect the worst given recent events.

Watch: Jamie Lee Curtis Shares Funny And Bloody Halloween Kills Set Video

We won’t be seeing Halloween Kills in theaters this year, but ironically Halloween itself has kind of been killed. The safest thing to do this October 31st is to stay indoors instead of taking your kids out trick-or-treating or going to a costume party. And that’s not just the health experts saying that – it’s the queen of Halloween herself, Jamie Lee Curtis.

Curtis took to Instagram to encourage folks to stay home this Halloween – sharing a funny, yet bloody, new set video from the Blumhouse sequel in the process. The actress posted a short clip of herself filmed by co-star Andi Matichak – who plays Laurie Strode’s granddaughter, Allyson – which sees her dipping her hands into a bucket of blood, which she’s strangely attached to.

Check out the video, along with Curtis’ wise words, via the post below:

Kills will be Curtis’ sixth time playing Laurie over the past 40 years – and the heroine is still no closer to killing off her eternal tormentor, Michael Myers. 2018’s Halloween reboot/quel left her, daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and Allyson believing they’d finally beaten him, by trapping the killer insider Laurie’s burning house. but the first clip from the follow-up reveals that firefighters will foolishly get him out.

It’s known that Laurie won’t be as much of a driving force in this second film as she was last time, with Karen and Allyson taking on more of the action while Laurie recovers in hospital. However, Laurie will once again take center stage for Halloween Ends, though, which we’ve been promised will conclude the Laurie vs. Michael saga for good. That was supposed to have wrapped up shooting already, but has naturally been delayed. It will now hit cinemas a year later than planned in fall 2022. Halloween Killsmeanwhile, is scheduled to release in October 15th, 2021.

Nvidia reveals what to expect from its $1,499 RTX 3090, on sale tomorrow

Nvidia’s RTX 3080 graphics card seemed to be the 4K gaming champ we’d been waiting for at $699 — except most of us are still waiting a week after launch. The card was practically impossible to buy, Nvidia made some mistakes and had to fight off bots, and scalpers wound up selling them for thousands on eBay.

Tomorrow, the beefier $1,499 RTX 3090 goes on sale, but it’s probably not a solution for any of those problems. It’s really designed for 8K gaming and giant creative projects, with its primary spec boost being a tremendous 24GB of GDDR6X RAM, and Nvidia has revealed today it’s only 10-15 percent faster for 4K gaming than the far more affordable RTX 3080.

(Genuine question: do you have an 8K screen? OK, carry on.)

And even if you’re...

Wikipedia is getting its first desktop redesign in 10 years

Image: Wikipedia

Wikipedia has been an integral part of web culture for nearly twenty years, letting users browse its millions of text-heavy, crowd-sourced encyclopedia entries from their computer, tablet, or phone. Now, the overall look of Wikipedia on desktop is getting a makeover for the first time in a decade to make the site more approachable for new users.

You can browse all the proposed new features in this MediaWiki post, and there are some animated GIFs to show you what they might look like. Personally, I really like how the new table of contents feature looks. I tend to curiously read Wiki pages of public figures and this could make it a lot easier to skip past certain sections of a page without having to scroll down on my computer.

Among Us is so popular that its developers just canceled the sequel

The developers of the hit social deduction game Among Us just announced that they have canceled a planned sequel because of the popularity of the first game.

Though that sequel had been announced just 36 days ago, developer InnerSloth wants to support the game that’s so popular right now. “The main reason we [were] shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content,” InnerSloth said in a blog post. “However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.”
