Chris Hemsworth Welcomes Latest Marvel Hero Shang-Chi Into The MCU
The God of Thunder himself has welcomed the latest Marvel hero into the MCU family. Next month will see the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, featuring the debut of Simu Liu’s eponymous Shang-Chi. The character is the franchise’s very first Asian leading man, so this movie is a major deal for the cinematic universe and the superhero genre as a whole.
And it seems Thor star Chris Hemsworth is just as excited to finally watch it as the rest of us.
Hemsworth shared a new TV spot for Shang-Chi on his Instagram on Monday, welcoming Liu’s martial arts expert into the MCU in his accompanying caption. “Welcome to the MCU Shang-Chi!” The Australian actor wrote. “Can’t wait to see this. It’s going to be epic! Out September 3rd #ShangChi @marvelstudios.”
Hemsworth’s post coincided with the movie’s world premiere on Monday, with the same day offering tickets available for pre-order. The first reactions from this week’s showing are overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising Liu as perfectly cast in the title role and making for an exciting new hero in the MCU. As directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi has been described as “phenomenal” and full of “fun, heart, and jaw-dropping action.” Well, that definitely gets us even more excited than we already were.
It’s good to know that it’s being critically well-received, but the real test for Shang-Chi will lie in its commercial performance. With the outbreak of the Delta COVID-19 variant, its box office gross could take a big hit and, unlike Black Widow, it’s not currently on target to open simultaneously on Disney Plus. Instead, it’s due to make its streaming debut 45 days later.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits cinemas on September 3rd. Chris Hemsworth, meanwhile, will return in Thor: Love and Thunder, opening on May 5th, 2022.

Kevin Feige Says Shang-Chi Star Misunderstood The Movie Being Called An Experiment
Simu Liu took exception to Disney CEO Bob Chapek describing the decision to withhold Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings from Disney Plus Premiere Access to give it a 45-day theatrical window as an “interesting experiment for us”, with the leading man issuing a fiery and heartfelt response on social media.
Naturally, the boss of the entire company likening a mega budget Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster featuring a brand new superhero and cast of characters making their debut to a trial run was guaranteed to ruffle some feathers, but Kevin Feige claims that the whole thing is nothing more than a misunderstanding.
In a new interview, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer admitted that he admired Liu’s enthusiasm, while he also stemmed the tide of speculation that another highly publicized issue between an MCU star and the Mouse House could be brewing.
“He is not a shy man. I think in that particular tweet you can see and I think everyone does, a misunderstanding. It was not the intention. The proof is in the movie and we swing for the fences as we always do. With the amount of creative energy we put in and the budget, there’s no expense spared to bring this origin story to the screen.”

It was a poor choice of wording from Chapek, something he’s inadvertently becoming famed for after getting Eternals fans worried by recently referring to Chloe Zhao’s cosmic epic as a 2022 release, while a few months ago he had to correct himself after accidentally starting a ton of rumors when he said Han Solo series was in the works for Disney Plus.
As things stand, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is unfortunately tracking for a franchise-low opening weekend, and many fans are happy to wait until it comes to Disney Plus instead of risking a trip to the theater. Hopefully that doesn’t affect Marvel’s long-term plans for the brand, because the early buzz coming out of the fantasy martial arts comic book movie is hugely encouraging, even if it might not translate to box office dollars.

Theater Chain Names [SPOILERS] In Venom: Let There Be Carnage Cast
Leading man, producer and co-writer Tom Hardy has been artfully dodging any potential spoilers while discussing Venom: Let There Be Carnage, even if he refused to confirm or deny whether or not Stephen Graham’s Mulligan would follow in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart by bonding with a symbiote and becoming Toxin.
Then again, perhaps the plot really is as straightforward as Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady becoming Carnage, roping in Naomie Harris’ Shriek as his second and waging all-out war on Eddie Brock, in a sequel that looks to be a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, even if it was hit with yet another delay that means fans won’t get the chance to find out for themselves until October 15th.
However, a recent Let There Be Carnage listing from the United Kingdom’s Vue cinema chain may have given away a pretty sizeable spoiler after naming J.K. Simmons as part of the cast, which you can see below.

Obviously, we’d heard plenty of rumors that the Academy Award winner’s Jonah Jameson was being lined up to reprise the role he shockingly returned to in Spider-Man: Far From Home as part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, but this is the closest thing we’ve had to an official confirmation.
Simmons has even teased more cameos from his Daily Bugle chief, and it looks as though he could be the connective tissue that leads to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man crossing over to the SPUMC for that long-awaited showdown with Hardy’s Venom. Of course, it isn’t a guarantee as of yet, but being listed as part of the Let There Be Carnage ensemble ahead of tickets going on sale is the strongest indication we’ve had.

Ray Fisher Still Wants A Public Apology From Walter Hamada
Things have been fairly quiet on the Ray Fisher front since the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max this past March, where it became abundantly clear just how heavily the actor’s role in the movie had been impacted. In the theatrical edition, Cyborg is little more than a passenger tasked with delivering exposition and lending a hand in the action sequences, but in the Snyder Cut he’s the beating heart of the entire team.
The four-hour DCEU epic would have given Fisher at least some sense of closure after watching the majority of his scenes left on the cutting room floor once Joss Whedon was brought on board to butcher Snyder’s vision, but his issues with Warner Bros. and DC Films president Walter Hamada are far from over, at least until he gets that apology.
It was Fisher who made the initial accusations against Whedon that led to a slew of former collaborators coming forward with similar claims, and yet WB’s official investigation determined that there was no misconduct, with the response effectively calling the DCEU’s Victor Stone a liar.
The 33 year-old hasn’t given up the fight by any stretch of the imagination, and even confirmed last year that he wouldn’t be returning as Cyborg in The Flash or any other DC project until those responsible are held accountable for their actions. In a new interview, Fisher once again explained what it would take for him to end his self-imposed superhero exile.
“That’s a complicated question. I think, ultimately, how people spend their money determines what happens and what does not happen in this business, and particularly in comic books and DC. For me, there’s a lot of stuff behind the scenes. Obviously, I’ve not been shy about talking about all of the things that have occurred over the last year, the back and forth that I’ve had personally and publicly with Warner Bros. Pictures, Walter Hamada, and the rest of the crew over there. For me, I think it all starts with an apology coming from the Warner Bros. side of things. There’s a lot of really gnarly stuff that has gone down, especially publicly.
What Walter Hamada and Warner Bros. Pictures attempted to do, professionally and personally, during one of the most crucial years for black people in the history of really humanity, is just unacceptable. So until such time an apology is issued. I definitely will not be supporting any Walter Hamada productions, period. And it’s a tough thing because I’m a DC fan through and through. I love these characters, but sometimes you gotta give up what you love to do what’s right.”
If Hamada thought the release of HBO Max’s Justice League would draw a line under the long-running war of words between talent and former employers, then Fisher’s latest comments would make it clear that he’s sorely mistaken.
