Last year, Google announced a new app to help the visually impaired named Lookout. The app uses AI to identify objects through your phone’s camera. It can also read text in signs and labels, scan barcodes, and identify currencies. This week, Google announced that Lookout will finally be available to download — though only for Pixel devices in the US.

A man was arrested this past Sunday after showing up to Google’s Mountain View, Calif. headquarters and threatening violence over his belief that YouTube had deleted his account and the single video he had posted to it, BuzzFeed News reported today.

IBM took nearly a million photos from Flickr, used them to figure out how to train facial recognition training programs, and shared them with outside researchers. But as NBC points out, the people photographed on Flickr didn’t consent to having their photos used to develop facial recognition systems — and might easily not have, considering those systems could eventually be used to surveil and recognize them.

Elon Musk’s plan to build express-route tunnels in Las Vegas received its first approval Tuesday, after the board of directors for the city’s Convention and Visitors Authority voted in favor of Musk’s Boring Company for a new people-mover project.
The plan involves digging a loop of underground tunnels that could carry passengers in autonomous electric vehicles at high speeds. The loop would just encompass the convention center, but could be expanded to include other points in Las Vegas, such as McCarran International Airport. The Boring Company said the initial phase would cost between $35 million and $55 million

T-Mobile CEO challenged by lawmakers over Trump hotel stays
At a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing Tuesday, T-Mobile CEO John Legere was questioned by lawmakers over the company’s spending at the Trump hotel in Washington, DC, focusing specifically on hotel stays that occurred after its merger plans with Sprint were announced last spring.
Democratic lawmakers like Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Hank Johnson (D-GA) pressed Legere on whether the company was pining for favorability from the Trump administration in order to receive approval for the merger. Rolando, one of the first flagship iOS games, is getting a new remastered edition
The early days of the iOS App Store was a Wild West of content, but one of the biggest and best games around back then was Rolando, a puzzle platformer that was specifically built around the iPhone’s (still novel at the time) touchscreen and accelerometer technology.
The original game hasn’t been available for years, having been lost to the ravages of time (and iOS updates), but developer HandCircus has announced today that it’ll be bringing Rolando back with a new, remastered version called Rolando: Royal Edition.

Twitter’s new beta app offers threaded replies, and it’s fine
In October, The Verge reported on new conversational features Twitter was testing in an effort to promote friendlier interactions on the often hostile site. Some of those features are now becoming more widely available — but only within twttr, a new public beta app that the company is using to test new features with the wider public. First Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle 2 Photo Reunites The Cast
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was an unexpected mega-hit for Sony back in Christmas 2017. It’s no surprise, then, that a sequel – technically a second sequel, following the Robin Williams-starring original from 1995 – is set to arrive this December. The studio isn’t messing with the formula that worked so well in the last movie, either, as all four jungle-dwelling leads will be back. They’re even in the exact same costumes as last time.
You can see that for yourself in the image below, which marks our first look at the currently untitled sequel. From left to right, we have Kevin Hart as Mouse Finbar, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, Jack Black as Professor Sheldon Oberon and, last but not least, Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone.
In fact, it was Johnson who shared the photo on his Instagram, teasing what’s in store in the film with a catchy rhyme:

As established in the 2017 flick, these four aren’t characters in themselves but rather video game avatars for the four teens that were sucked into Jumanji. Those teens – namely, actors Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Alex Wolff – are all back as well for the sequel, so we assume it’s going to serve up much the same as last time. Johnson’s hint that “things may not be as they seem” though gives us hope that director Jake Kasdan and his team have got some new ideas up their sleeves.
Completing the line-up from the previous movie is Nick Jonas, back as his avatar Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough. Joining Jumanji for the first time, however, are Awkwafina, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover, all in undisclosed roles. But will the sequel match the popularity of the previous film? We’ll have to play the (waiting) game and see when Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2 roars into theaters on December 13th.

Frank Oz Says The Star Wars: The Last Jedi Backlash Is Horse Crap
Earlier this week, renowned voice actor, puppeteer and director Frank Oz spoke at SXSW, where he lamented the current state of The Muppets and decried Sesame Street as “a shadow of what it was.” But while there are quite a few people out there who’d say the same about the Star Wars franchise, it turns out this is one property that still has the Yoda actor’s support.
Oz reprised his role as the beloved Jedi Master for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and though the 2017 film proved divisive for longtime fans of the franchise, the Little Shop of Horrors helmsman argues that the movie’s detractors were just looking to be pandered to.
“I love the movie,” Oz said. “All the people who don’t like this Jedi thing is just horse crap. It’s about expectations. The movie didn’t fill their expectations. But as filmmakers, we’re not here to fulfill people’s expectations.”
Even Mark Hamill has gone on record admitting that he had trouble accepting some of the choices made in The Last Jedi. In a press junket back in 2017, for instance, the actor went as far as to say that he “almost had to think of Luke as another character,” before adding, “He’s not my Luke Skywalker.”

Since then, however, Hamill has seemingly softened on the movie, and in an interview earlier this month with Den of Geek, the star lamented how his old quotes are still being used as evidence that he “hated” the film. Oscar Isaac, meanwhile, offered some thoughts of his own last October on the backlash received by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, arguing that while the Prequel Trilogy also had plenty of detractors, social media has now made the negative responses all the more visible.
Regardless, the series continues with the release of Star Wars: Episode IX on December 20th, 2019. In the meantime, you can catch Oz in Johnson’s next film, Knives Out, which will be hitting theaters on November 27th.
