New MacBook models with scissor-switch keyboards are reportedly coming soon

Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verg

Apple is planning to reintroduce scissor-switch keyboards to more laptops soon, according to generally accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. New MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models are coming in the second quarter of 2020, Kuo says in a research note obtained by MacRumors. The move would follow a pattern set by last year’s 16-inch MacBook Pro, which replaced the unpopular and unreliable butterfly switches with a more traditional “Magic Keyboard.”

Kuo recently indicated that the current 13-inch MacBook Pro will be replaced by a 14-inch model, but he hasn’t said whether that’ll happen with this second-quarter update. It’s possible that the scissor-switch keyboard will come to the 13-inch model first before a more significant overhaul later. Apple...

All Twitter employees must work from home until further notice in order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the company announced today. Twitter had already “strongly encouraged” employees to do so in an announcement early last week, but is now making the directive mandatory across the world.

Twitter will continue to pay contractors, hourly workers, and vendors for standard working hours if they’re unable to perform their duties at home. The company will also be providing reimbursement for home office setup expenses, as well as for parents who may have to pay additional daycare costs.

Warner Bros. Issue Statement Regarding Tom Hanks Getting Coronavirus

Warner Bros. have issued a statement following the news that Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The statement, issued Wednesday night, states:

We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus). We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.

The couple are currently in Australia where Hanks is preparing to play Elvis’ manager Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic. Hanks stated that he and Wilson began to feel tired and experienced body aches and chills that prompted them to get tested for the virus. The actor seemed in good spirits in his Instagram post, but he was quick to point out that protocols will require the two to remain isolated under the watch of medical professionals until they’re better.

Tom Hanks

The COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spread at an alarmingly fast pace, prompting the World Health Organization to officially declare it a pandemic on Wednesday afternoon. Total worldwide cases have exceeded 125,000 with nearly 5,000 deaths, and the virus doesn’t seem to have any interest in slowing down. Italy has been hit the worst with over 10,000 cases and 600 deaths, prompting a full shutdown of the country. Cases in the United States are increasing as well with confirmed cases surpassing 1,000 and resulting in 37 deaths.

Meanwhile, the global effects of the novel coronavirus can be seen in almost every other facet of life, too. Many schools are shutting down and asking parents to keep their children safe at home, while the bulk purchasing of items like water, soap, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper is creating shortages around the world. An increasing number of public events like gaming’s yearly E3 convention are also being canceled in hopes of helping reduce the number of new infections. China has even pushed back the release of the Disney’s new live-action Mulan, while manufacturers are being hit with indefinite delays.

Circling back to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, though, and we wish them speedy recoveries.

The Internet’s Freaking Out Over Tom Hanks Getting Coronavirus

Without a doubt, Tom Hanks is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. He’s been on our screens for decades now and brought us countless exceptional and inspirational roles in a whole host of beloved movies. The internet, in particular, is in love with the guy, unable to see any sign of malevolence behind those blue eyes.

Perhaps some of this has to do with him only ever playing the good guy in his films. Be it Toy Story‘s Woody, the titular character in Forrest Gump and, of course, his recent portrayal of Mister Rogers, Hanks almost always stays away from the role of the villain or antagonist. And it seems that’s a conscious decision, too.

Whatever it is that makes him so likable though, people absolutely love the actor and so, it’s understandable that the internet is having a bit of a meltdown now following the news that Hanks has tested positive for Coronavirus this week. He was infected, along with his wife Rita Wilson, while down in Australia working on a new movie and below, you can find just a sample of how folks are reacting on Twitter.

Tom Hanks

Taking to Instagram earlier today to confirm the news, Hanks seemed in relatively good spirits, telling his followers that he’s just trying to take things one day at a time right now, writing:

Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

Take care of yourselves! Hanx!

This is certainly alarming to hear, but like the actor says, he’ll keep us updated as more comes to light. For now, we wish Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson a speedy recovery and advise everyone to continue to take the proper precautions to keep yourself safe from the virus and help stop its spread.

Tom Hanks And Rita Wilson Test Positive For Coronavirus

As Coronavirus continues to spread at a rapid pace, it’s starting to have a huge impact on the movie business, with the Chinese box office basically brought to a standstill now and reports indicating that billions might be lost if things don’t turn around soon. Hollywood has already started making moves, too, with Disney pushing back the release of Mulan in China and the latest Bond flick, No Time to Die, being delayed by a full seven months.

But it’s not only the films themselves that are being affected by the virus, as Deadline brings word tonight that both Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson have now tested positive for Coronavirus. They were down in Australia working on Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley movie for Warner Bros. when they contacted the disease.

Hanks confirmed the unfortunate news on Instagram earlier today, writing:

Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Take care of yourselves! Hanx!

Tom Hanks

As Hanks says, there’s not much he and his wife can do right now but take things one day at a time, but this is certainly concerning to hear and we imagine it’s only a matter of time before we learn of other Hollywood talent becoming infected on film and TV sets. Hence why so many are being closed down right now.

Indeed, the COVID-19 Coronavirus is causing a global panic as it continues to spread. In fact, the virus was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization this week and has now killed over 4,000 people. And with no vaccine to speak of and no signs of things slowing down, it unfortunately looks like we’re still a long way away from moving past this.

Circling back to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, though, and we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear more on their status. And in the meantime, we wish them a speedy recovery.

The Jazz were in Oklahoma City to play the Thunder this evening, but the game was called off right before it was due to start, with players already introduced and the arena packed with fans. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Donald Trump announced that his administration would be rolling new travel restrictions, prohibiting travel from Europe to the US. The restrictions will start on Friday, March 13 and last for 30 days. This travel ban does not affect flights from the United Kingdom.

“There will be exceptions for Americans who have undergone appropriate screenings,” Trump said. It’s not clear if these new restrictions will affect trade.

The administration had previously placed travel restrictions on China, which is hardest-hit by the novel coronavirus. The effects of those restrictions and other, similar restrictions remains unknown. A recent study that modeled the virus’ spread found that at this point...

Anthony Daniels Doesn’t Think He’s Done As C-3PO After Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

In the run-up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerthere was a lot of concern from fans that C-3PO would meet a tragic end in the movie. As he’s the only character, alongside R2-D2, to appear in every episode of the Skywalker saga, it was thought this could be it for the nervy protocol droid. Especially as the trailers made a big deal out of that scene where Threepio “takes one last look” at his friends.

Of course, as we know, he made it out fully in tact, with even his missing memories returned to him. So does this mean that the door is open for Threepio to come back in future films? Star Anthony Daniels seems pretty certain that it does. When asked about the droid’s future on The View, Daniels revealed that director J.J. Abrams made clear he wasn’t going to kill off the iconic character.

“Oh, he’s not over. I said to J.J., when we were filming, ‘Maybe it’s time to put Threepio to sleep, to give him an end,’ and he said, ‘Not on my watch.'”

Seemingly careful of saying too much, the British actor went on to suggest that, whether he returns to the franchise or not, C-3PO isn’t really gone, as fans can soon watch the Skywalker saga from start to finish at their leisure whenever they like.

“But one of the great things that happened is that, back in the day, 1975, you couldn’t have video in your home, it didn’t exist. Big TV studios, you could have it. Now, it’s gone through all the iterations from laserdisc to whatever, and now you do have it, first of all downloadable, and at the end of the month, you can actually buy it on disc, and here’s the important thing: when you have it on disc, you have control. In the movie theater, it whizzes by, at home, you can say, ‘Oh, I want to see Anthony Daniels in that scene again.'”

In Episode IX, Threepio proves key to the plot when he’s the only one who can translate the inscription on the Sith dagger that will lead the heroes to the Sith Wayfinder, which will in turn direct them to Palpatine’s hideaway on Exegol. Due to his programming, though, the droid is forbidden from reading the Sith language. Long story short, Babu Frik reprograms him and he reads the dagger, but at the cost of his memories. Thankfully, Artoo is able to redownload them all into his noggin when they reunite at the Resistance base.

Like Daniels reminds us, we’ll be able to watch Threepio’s latest – last? who knows? – adventure when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives on Digital HD next Tuesday, March 17th. The Blu-Ray then drops on March 31st.
