Foxconn will produce ventilators at its controversial Wisconsin plant

A Foxconn “innovation center” in Wisconsin Photo by Joshua Lott for The Verge

Foxconn’s Wisconsin plant, the controversial recipient of billions of dollars in tax subsidies and the focus of multiple Verge investigations, will produce ventilators with medical device firm Medtronic. The partnership was announced by Medtronic CEO Omar Ishrak in an interview with CNBC, who said that Foxconn will be manufacturing ventilators based on its PB-560 design in the next four to six weeks.

Foxconn’s Wisconsin plant was first announced way back in 2017 as a $10 billion LCD factory. It was labeled the “eighth wonder of the world” by President Trump, but Foxconn’s plans for the site appear to have changed repeatedly over the years. At various points, Foxconn has said that it would build a smaller LCD factory, no factory at all,...

Tim Dunk

Lockdown has disrupted everyone’s lives to varying degrees, and wedding photographers are some of the unluckier ones in terms of the impact on their careers — there aren’t any weddings happening, and even if there were it’d be unwise or impractical to attend. Yorkshire-based photographer Tim Dunk, however, has found a way to keep on taking portraits in self-isolation: FaceTime.

Writing in PetaPixel, Dunk describes the process, which involves making use of the Live Photo button that lets you snap an image during the call. Dunk works with the subjects to find or create good light within their homes, then edits the resulting shots in Lightroom. “The image quality is not going to be great,” he says. “Embrace it!”

Tesla is cutting salaries and furloughing workers to ‘manage costs’ during pandemic

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

Starting April 13th, Tesla is cutting pay for all salaried employees in the US, and placing hourly workers who can’t work at home during the novel coronavirus pandemic on unpaid leave, according to an internal email that was viewed by The Verge.

Salaried employees at the vice president level and above will have their pay cut by 30 percent, according to the email, which was first reported by Electrek. Directors and above will have their pay cut 20 percent. Everyone else will receive a 10 percent pay cut, and Tesla said that workers outside the US will see “comparable reductions.” The pay cuts will last through the second financial quarter, which ends in June.

It’s unclear how many hourly workers will be placed on unpaid leave. But it is...

Watch: Keanu Reeves Becomes Ghost Rider In Incredible Fan Trailer

It’s no secret at this point that Marvel has been trying to get Keanu Reeves in the MCU for some time now. Studio president Kevin Feige has even admitted that they talk to him for almost every new project that they have. But despite the actor starring in countless action and blockbuster movies, he’s yet to appear in a superhero film, save for Constantine in 2005.

Two weeks ago, however, we reported that Reeves is in talks to play Johnny Blaze AKA Ghost Rider in the MCU. And while nothing is set in stone just yet, and the two parties are only in talks, we can at least get some idea of what he could look like as the character thanks to the awesome new fan trailer above.

As you can see, it features footage from the first Ghost Rider movie starring Nicolas Cage as well as the character’s appearance on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. We also get clips from several films where someone or something’s on fire, including the most recent Hellboy, the 2013 Evil Dead reboot and a number of scenes from Reeves’ work in Constantine. There’s also a bit of John Wick, too, just for good measure.

Honestly, it seems like only a matter of time before Reeves is in the comic book world and Johnny Blaze seems like the perfect role for him. After all, he’s known for doing most of his own stunts and is also a motorcycle enthusiast and doesn’t really need to say much as the character.

Not to mention that Marvel is in the midst of a transition now, with popular heroes like Iron Man and Captain America fading out to make room for new additions. And someone like Ghost Rider is definitely on their radar of folks to be introduced in the next few years. But will it be Reeves in the role? We certainly hope.

Ezra Miller Video Is Reportedly Genuine, Described As Serious Altercation

The internet was rocked yesterday when a video apparently featuring Ezra Miller choking a fan went viral. The event took place at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland, where the actor is due to start filming Fantastic Beasts 3 once the coronavirus outbreak has passed, with it appearing that the star lost his temper with a female fan who seems to have been attempting to initiate a play-fight. Given the fact that the woman is smiling in the video though, many have wondered if this was some kind of set-up or joke.

Well, according to intel shared by Variety, the situation is a serious one. The trade reached out to the owner of the establishment in question, Mr. Prikið Kaffihús, who confirmed that what transpired between Miller and the group of fans was “a serious altercation.” The actor – whose identity was doubly-confirmed by the owner, just in case there was any doubt – was escorted off the premises following the choking incident.

For further context, Mr. Kaffihús told Variety that Miller has been a frequent customer of his bar during his time in Reykjavik and he’s previously had no prior problems with him. On this occasion, however, this group of “eager” fans approached him and were described as being “quite pushy.” This led things to “escalate” and Miller “losing his temper at one woman in particular.” The Justice League star is said to have been “upset and angry” when he was removed from the establishment.

The spread of the video depicting this “serious altercation” has stirred up a storm of bad press for Miller, with fan opinion souring against him. Many are now calling for him to be replaced as Barry Allen in Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash, maybe even with The CW’s Grant Gustin. There’s even a petition going around about it.

At this point, either Ezra Miller or the studio probably needs to release some kind of statement to clear up this mess. As yet, though, neither has made any comment.

Amber Heard Faces Prison Time If Found Guilty Of Falsifying Evidence Against Johnny Depp

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been in a seemingly never-ending legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard (Aquaman) for years now, and while most of the evidence so far has shown Heard to be the primary abuser in their tumultuous marriage, it’s not like Depp is completely innocent in all this. However, a surprising new turn in their case could spell a lot more trouble for the Drive Angry actress than her husband.

According to a recent report from IBT, Heard now faces up to three years of jail time if found guilty of “manipulating evidence against Johnny Depp.” If you’ve been keeping up with the case – and how could you not, given how it seems to be all over social media? – you’ll know that Amber has made numerous claims against Johnny that’ve painted him as an abusive monster, but in recent months, most of them have been debunked or proven false and now, she’s facing serious consequences for allegedly falsifying evidence.

As IBT explains:

The California Penal Code Section 141 PC stated that it is illegal to alter, modify, plant, place, conceal, manufacture or move any physical matter with the intention of causing someone to be charged with a crime. Some would face felony charges for this. Related charges include Offering false evidence under California Penal Code 132 PC and Preparing false evidence under California Penal Code Section 134 PC which are considered felony crimes and carry a maximum sentence of up to three years. This applies even if the person doesn’t actually present it but intend to present the falsified evidence as true.

So, clearly this isn’t to be taken lightly and given that the evidence against Heard has been mounting rapidly, things aren’t looking too good for her. But of course, it’s not only in court that she’s in hot water, as the internet has been a source of intense backlash for the actress, too, as of late.

One petition is trying to have her fired as the L’Oreal spokesperson, while another wants her gone from the upcoming Aquaman sequel. Of course, it could be some time before Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s court battle comes to any kind of resolution, but it seems like things will only get worse before they get better for the former couple.
