Deadpool Creator Says Marvel Has Zero Plans For Deadpool 3 And X-Force

Deadpool and X-Force creator Rob Liefeld has little confidence in Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige when it comes to the future of the Merc with a Mouth, it seems.

Fox released two incredibly successful Deadpool movies to the tune of $1.5 billion in global box office. Not only are they the most profitable films within the X-Men universe, but until Joker was released last fall, they were the highest-grossing R-rated comic book movies by a mile.

But despite all of that success, the future of the character and the franchise was thrown in doubt with Disney purchasing Fox. Before this, filmmaker Drew Goddard was planning an X-Force spinoff with Deadpool and Cable (Josh Brolin), but these lofty plans, in addition to the eventual Deadpool 3, were put in limbo with the merger and Liefeld apparently is not happy with the direction that the studio is now moving in.

Of course, Deadpool 2 teased an X-Force movie, but when asked by Inverse about the future of the project, Liefeld said: “I don’t know. Here’s what people don’t want to hear, but thank God I’m a realist. I feel like Deadpool, the movies, they’ve set sail.”

“We got two brilliant movies, and we live in a culture that always looks forward because all they’re ever selling us is ‘next, next, next.’ It’s the fever,” Liefeld continued. “For me, as the fever calms down, people just need to calm down and realize that Deadpool 1 and 2 were released within two years of each other, 2016 and 2018, and I just can’t… I’m not really that crazy about Marvel’s plan right now.”

The immediate plan for Marvel is to give fans what they wanted, a Black Widow movie, and then introduce them to a whole new set of heroes to transition into the next phase of the franchise, including The Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“It’s the first time I go, ‘Hey, Feige, did you even have a plan? Your plan was Eternals and Shang-Chi? That was your plan? And Black Widow?’” Liefeld said. “So they close the door, Chris Evans says goodbye, Robert Downey Jr. says goodbye, Black Widow falls off a cliff says goodbye, they almost lose [Spider-Man actor] Tom Holland to Sony… but you’re a genius, Marvel, you’re a genius.”

If Marvel Studios started production on Deadpool 3 this year, Liefeld said, “it would come out in four years. I can’t be excited about that.” Saying he “can’t gloss it up,” Liefeld added, “you want to know the plan with Deadpool right now? They have a goose egg, zero, zero.”

Disney only just purchased Fox a year ago and Feige and Marvel spend years planning out the MCU, so Liefeld’s comments about Deadpool 3 arriving in four years is right. But it’s not because they have zero plans. It’s because the Merc jumped on the speeding train that is Marvel. They already have the next few years mapped out so the R-rated character will have to wait his turn.

Of course, it’s still hazy as to whether the character would exist inside of the MCU given the nature of him, but Reynolds has been working with Disney and he’s hopeful about the partnership. It’s his baby, after all. And other than maybe Avatar, Deadpool is the biggest franchise the Mouse House acquired under the Fox deal. They know the potential of the series and no doubt want to please the fans.

Liefeld’s confidence may be waning because he’s the creator of the character, but these comments are still overblown. Marvel Studios knows what they’re doing and Liefeld just needs to have a little patience.

Kristen Stewart’s Seberg Is Coming To Amazon Prime Next Week

Amazon Studios has just announced that Seberg, the political thriller centering around the life of actress and civil rights movement activist Jean Seberg, will be available for streaming on May 15th.

Seberg, starring Kristen Stewart in the titular role of Jean Dorothy Seberg, tells the story of the famous Hollywood actress who came under much scrutiny for her support of the civil rights movement. The new film takes advantage of an all-star cast, including Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley and Vince Vaughn. The life and experience of Seberg is definitely an interesting topic to tackle as well, but alas, the movie has received a mixed reaction from critics, though most of them have praised Stewart’s stellar performance as Jean Seberg.

The newly released trailer, which you can see above, opens with a shot of the actress/activist in the middle of an interview that makes her reflect on her choices within the entertainment industry. After deciding to join the civil rights movement, the media and federal authorities target Seberg and her personal life, which presumably leads to the film taking a dramatic turn.

Seberg

In fact, if the new teaser is any indication, things will quickly spiral out of control for Kristen Stewart’s character, and she’ll be left struggling to salvage what’s left of her career and public life after the FBI’s COINTELPRO investigation and Hollywood’s blacklisting, which ultimately led to her probable suicide in 1979.

Seberg currently holds a rating of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews, so if you decide to check it out when it premieres on Amazon Prime on May 15th, you’d be wise not to go in with high expectations.

Watch: Terrifying Jason Vs. Michael Fan Trailer Pits Two Icons Against Each Other

While we patiently wait for more news regarding the much rumoured Freddy Vs. Jason remake, there’s a lesser-known horror crossover making the rounds that may help scratch that very same machete-shaped itch.

That’s right, courtesy of some savvy work from YouTuber Stryder HD, we have a new must-see matchup featuring two of cinema’s most enduring super villains. In the one corner, we have Friday The 13th‘s unstoppable killing machine, Jason Voorhees. And in the other, we have Halloween‘s cold and calculated, knife-toting killer, Michael Myers. Frankly, they’re both such incredibly iconic bad guys, their blood-drenched reputations assuredly precede them.

Specifically, this new cinematic crossover comes by way of Stryder HD’s latest fan trailer, Jason Vs. Michael, which pits two of the most fearsome horror icons against one another. Go ahead and check out the terrifying new trailer for yourself up above.

Surprisingly, in some ways, these two classic killers do have a lot in common with one another. Firstly, both have a penchant for murdering lots and lots of people. Secondly, both are the strong and silent type. And finally, both enjoy wearing masks in their spare time. Their actual narrative backgrounds, however, couldn’t be any different.

Michael Myers, for example, was born a murderous psychopath and stabbed his sister to death for no rhyme or reason when he was just six years old. Meanwhile, Jason Voorhees was a comparatively normal child born with hydrocephalus. Because of his condition, he was bullied for his abnormally large head and thanks to the neglectful camp counselors who were supposed to be keeping an eye on him, he drowned in Camp Crystal Lake. As a result, he soon returned from beyond his watery grave to seek vengeance upon them.

Obviously, these two nasty pasties would likely put on a helluva fight. But tell us, would you watch a Jason Vs. Michael horror movie? And who would your money be on? Grab your hockey and Captain Kirk masks, and let us know in the usual place down below.

FDA authorizes rapid COVID 19 antigen test

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

The Food and Drug Administration has granted the first emergency use authorization to diagnostic healthcare company Quidel Corp. for the first COVID-19 antigen test, the agency announced. Antigen tests can quickly detect the coronavirus, but are generally considered less accurate than other types of tests that search out the virus.

Antigen tests for COVID-19 are akin to rapid flu or strep tests. This test can be run in a lab or in a doctor’s office, and only takes about 15 minutes.

The tests typically used to diagnose COVID-19, called PCR tests, search out the genetic sequence of the coronavirus in a swab collected from a patient’s nose or throat. Antigen tests, on the other hand, look for molecules on the surface of the virus. They...

The Real Reason The TNG Crew’s Uniforms Changed In Star Trek: Generations

1994’s Star Trek: Generations was the first cinematic outing for Jean-Luc Picard and The Next Generation crew, and the movie definitely worked hard to make it feel like their story had been lifted to another level from the TV series. Many of the characters had to deal with some personal upheaval, the Enterprise-D itself was destroyed and, most notably, William Shatner came back as Kirk. There was also an effort to give the crew a new look for the big screen, too. But this didn’t go according to plan.

It’s long been a source of irritation for fans that, randomly and without explanation, the Enterprise-D crew swapped their traditional TNG Starfleet uniforms for the Deep Space Nine/Voyager-style models in this film. From the next movie, 1996’s First Contact, onward, the crew donned brand new uniforms, so their fashion habits in Generations are a weird outlier. And as you’d expect, the reason behind it has to do with behind-the-scenes troubles.

Originally, the idea was to kickstart the era of TNG at the movies with all-new uniforms – these were identical to the TV versions except the raised collars were colored with the pips denoting their ranks moved to the right upper chest. Just a few days into the shoot, though, the producers decided to junk these costumes. With replacements needed to be found immediately, costumes from DS9/VOY were borrowed.

Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton, for example, are actually wearing the same clothes worn by DS9‘s Avery Brooks and Colm Meaney and Voyager‘s Robert Duncan McNeill and Garrett Wang. A few background actors can also be seen dressed in these type of togs, but everyone else is in their usual TNG attire. This means Star Trek: Generations is the only movie that mixes different uniforms together. But it only happened thanks to a last-minute panic.
