A rare attempt to defend J.J. Abrams doesn’t go according to plan

J.J. Abrams career has seen some major highs and lows. He’s best known for his work on films like the Star Trek reboots, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and television shows like Fringe, Alias, and Lost, all of which he created.

His work in Star Wars in particular, gave Abrams a bad name among filmgoers and the years since Rise of Skywalker‘s release have seen his popularity plummet. One of his many mid-level supporters is working to turn that around, via a recent post to Reddit’s movies sub, by pointing out the director and producer’s finer moments.

‘Wakanda Forever’ producer claims there was no debate over the new Black Panther, despite already saying the exact opposite

In the run-up to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, fans couldn’t stop speculating over who might be the eponymous African nation’s new protector as there were just so many feasible options. Of course, as we all now know, Marvel ultimately elected to go with the most obvious play by having Shuri step up to take on her brother’s mantle. But were any other contenders seriously considered? Well, that’s tough to answer as one key member of the crew has offered some contradictory comments.

Producer Nate Moore recently sat down with Yahoo! Entertainment and claimed the “only conversation” that was had involved casting Shuri as the second Black Panther. Moore explained, “Calls for M’Baku or Okoye or Nakia seemed a bit like throwing darts at a dartboard for me… And Letitia Wright nails it.”

Horror fans celebrate the rare franchises that dodged the curse of diminishing returns

If there’s one thing that horror fans are more cognizant of than anyone, it’s that too much of a good thing can quickly become a bad thing. Indeed, over the years we’ve had too much of a good thing in space, Manhattan, Hell, and toe-to-toe with Freddy, and too much of a good thing written and directed by Rob Zombie, just to name a few.

But not every horror franchise falls victim to diminishing returns. For every slasher icon that ends up sputtering out on a lackluster sixth or seventh film, there’s a saga that has at least managed to stay on both feet for just as long, and the folks over at r/horror are handing out gold medals to those that have stood the test of time, as well as the soulless hurdle of corporate involvement.

‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ is more important to MCU canon than you might think

As a festive spectacular that runs for less than an hour and features a self-aware storyline that finds Kevin Bacon being hunted by intergalactic interlopers, it would be fairly easy to write off The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special as a fairly inconsequential addition to the never-ending churn of Marvel Cinematic Universe content.

However, James Gunn has made it clear that the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation is a lot more integral to the complexion of both next summer’s Vol. 3 and the mythology at large, as he revealed to Entertainment Tonight.
