Facebook plans to put the name of the winner of the US presidential election at the top of Facebook and Instagram once it’s been projected by a majority of media outlets, the company says. The company also will label presidential candidates’ posts with a link to its voting information center, according to Facebook spokesperson Tom Reynolds.
The company plans to “show the candidate’s name in notifications at the top of Facebook and Instagram that say ‘A Presidential Winner Has Been Projected — <name> is the projected winner of the 2020 US Presidential Election,’” Reynolds explained in an email to The Verge.

Facebook is seeing an increase in worrying activity around the US election, according to reports from The New York Times and BuzzFeed News. According to BuzzFeed News, which viewed a post on Facebook’s internal message board, the company has been tracking a rise in “violence and incitement trends” associated with hashtags and keywords.
Facebook did not respond for comment about a potential rise in the organization of violent activity on its platform by the time of publication, but Facebook spokesperson Liz Bourgeois told BuzzFeed News that the company is “staying vigilant in detecting content that could incite violence during this time of heightened uncertainty.” In a statement given to The Verge and others, Facebook said that the...
November 5th is a historical day, but probably not for the reasons you’re thinking of. On this day in 1955, genius inventor Dr. Emmet Brown discovered the secret to time travel and changed the world forever. Or at least, he changed the world of sci-fi fans and 80s movie lovers forever. Yes, today is Back to the Future Day!
In the 1985 classic, Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown sets the date for his very first trip in his time-traveling DeLorean for November 5th, 1955, as it was such an important moment in his life. When Libyan terrorists storm his testing site, though, he’s apparently killed and Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) takes off in his place. Arriving on November 5th 30 years (now 65 years) before, Marty has to convince the younger Doc to help him get the DeLorean up and running again.
Today is pretty much the most significant date in the Back to the Future universe, then, so fans have been celebrating it on social media. What with everything else happening in the world right now, you might have missed all the reactions going around, but here are just a few of the tweets honoring the occasion.

It’s not all about V for Vendetta, you know.
When most think 5th of November they think “V for Vendetta,” but 80s kids know better

Today is 65 year anniversary of #FluxCapacitor Invention Day. So, what else can we do but watch Back to the Future? #BTTF

Back to the Future is pretty unique in Hollywood for being a beloved franchise that’s never been rebooted or relaunched. That’s because director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale have always done everything in their power to make sure another sequel or remake doesn’t get off the ground. Nevertheless, fans have still cooked up deepfakes of Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. starring in a new version. But why do we even need a reboot when we’re still talking about the original all these years later?

Apple debuted a collection of privacy features when it announced iOS 14, but the company’s privacy “nutrition label” concept did not arrive with the launch of the new operating system in September. Today, Apple announced that developers will be required to provide the information for those “labels” starting December 8th.
Like a normal nutrition label that lists ingredients and caloric content, these privacy “labels” should give you a better idea of what’s going on inside an app before you download it from the iOS App Store or Mac App Store. The labels will list what information an app collects, and present that visually on the app page, much like looking at the backs of labels in a grocery store.
Cable networks, broadcast networks and Twitter cut short their broadcasts of President Donald Trump’s speech from the White House briefing room Thursday; some outlets fact-checked the president’s unproven statements rather than carry them live.
Trump began his remarks by baselessly claiming that Democrats were committing “fraud” and trying to “steal” the election. “If you count the legal votes, I easily win,” the president said, even though the counting of legal votes is still happening. There are several key states, including Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona, which are still tallying votes. Neither the president nor the Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden, has enough electoral college votes yet to win. Many of those...

Elon Musk has branched out from rockets and cars into booze — as Tesla has launched Tesla Tequila on its website today. If you have $250 burning a hole in your pocket, you can pick up your very own lightning-shaped bottle.
The original branding was Teslaquila, but that must have been jettisoned somewhere along the way. (Well, the idea did start as an April Fools’ Day joke.) Orders are limited to two bottles, and only people in some states can receive them because of “industry regulations.”
Elon was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by "Teslaquilla" bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks.
This is not a forward-looking statement, because,...
Ryan Reynolds often plays a major role in shaping the creative direction of the films he stars in. For instance, the Hollywood A-lister’s fingerprints are all over the two Deadpool movies, though that isn’t really that surprising given that he took the lead part in them, co-produced the flicks and even had an official writing credit on the sequel.
Over the years, many of his projects have been tailored to fit his self-aware and irreverent screen persona, and action comedy Free Guy looks no different in that regard. From everything we’ve seen of it so far, the film appears to be playing directly to his strengths and all signs point to it being another hit for the Canadian actor.
But Variety is now bringing us some unfortunate news, as Disney has decided to delay the movie and as of yet, they haven’t handed it a new release date. It was originally supposed to be with us on December 11th but the Mouse House has now pulled it from the calendar due to – you guessed it – COVID-19.
Free Guy isn’t the only recent casualty, though, as Death on the Nile – which was set to release on December 18th – has also been removed from the schedule tonight and is currently without a new date. Of course, this comes as a huge blow to theaters, who are still struggling to get onto steady ground and right now, there isn’t much left for them to show in 2020.
The last big movie still locked into its release date is Wonder Woman 1984, but with Free Guy and Death on the Nile having packed up and moved to 2021, we imagine that the Warner Bros. tentpole will follow suit very shortly. As mentioned above, Disney has yet to announce when we can expect to see these recently delayed films, but with any luck, we won’t have to wait too long into the new year to lay eyes on them.

UPDATE: It turns out that only 5 of the 7 titles have been confirmed, with the last 2 being rumored at this stage.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, there’s a decent chance you’ve built up a backlog of content on the platform, especially considering how much fantastic stuff has been added over the past few months. And, of course, rest assured that just as soon as you begin to knock a few things off your list, Netflix will drop a selection of new movies or shows to add to it, too, ensuring that you’re stuck in a perpetual yet wonderful cycle.
That being said, you’re probably curious about what’s coming in the future, right? Well, good news – not only has Netflix shared a small taste of what’s on the way in December, but they’ve also announced a handful of originals for January 2021 as well, including a new run of a beloved show that you’re definitely not going to want to miss.
Season 3 of Cobra Kai will launch on the service on January 8th. This martial arts comedy-drama based on The Karate Kid franchise has been a huge success for Netflix ever since it moved over from YouTube Red, but this will be the first original season for its new platform, so it’s almost positive to garner even more attention. If you haven’t checked it out at all yet, now would be a good time to catch up before this third outing lands.
For more, here’s everything that Netflix has announced for January 2021 thus far:
January 8th
Azizler
Cobra Kai (Season 3)
January 22nd
The White Tiger
January 27th
50M2 (Season 1)
TBD:
Lupin (Season 1)
Gabby’s Dollhouse (Season 1) – Rumored
Double Dad – Rumored
In the meantime, November has already been off to an incredible start with such huge movies as the controversial classic A Clockwork Orange, Jim Carrey’s hilarious comedy Yes Man, and the intriguing sci-fi Prospect. That’s before considering how much stuff is on the way later in the month, too, including adorable new series Dash & Lily, horror show American Horror Story: 1984, and R-rated comic book flick V for Vendetta.
Tell us, though, do you plan to check out anything Netflix has announced for January? Let us know in the comments below.
Thousands of people have backed the petition for Netflix to remove steamy Polish thriller 365 Days from their library, but it would seem that those folks are in the minority. And that’s because according to some new data from Variety, the pic is actually the streaming giant’s most popular film of 2020.
Not their most popular original film – that honor belongs to Hubie Halloween – but the most popular film overall. Which is perhaps an even more impressive feat given that the competition is fiercer and there are tons of titles vying for subscribers’ attention. Especially in recent months, as the streaming giant has really increased their output.
Of course, 365 Days also holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that didn’t stop it from dominating the platform’s most-watched list for weeks and for a while there, it was all anyone could talk about – for better or worse.
If you’re unfamiliar with this one – though let’s be honest, you’ve probably seen it by now – the story follows a woman who’s kidnapped and imprisoned by a man, who then tells her that she has one year (hence the title) to fall in love with him. While that concept might sound interesting at first, don’t be fooled.
This is not a movie that’s going to have anyone raving about the acting, writing, direction, or any other aspect of the filmmaking process. Rather, the reason it’s gained so much attention is for its love scenes, which make Fifty Shades of Grey look tame by comparison. Seriously, this pic is for mature audiences only.
But tell us, have you contributed to 365 Days‘ success on Netflix this year? Or did you manage to avoid the movie? Let us know by dropping a comment down below.
Facebook and TikTok have blocked hashtags that were being used to spread misinformation and conspiracy theories about the presidential election. The hashtags generally revolved around unfounded claims that Democrats are trying to manipulate the election to defeat President Trump.
On Facebook, the blocked hashtags include #stopthesteal, which has been broadly used to make unsubstantiated claims of election fraud by Democrats, and #sharpiegate, which incorrectly alleges that the use of Sharpie markers caused Trump votes to go uncounted in Arizona. TikTok blocked #sharpiegate, #stopthesteal, and the more general term #riggedelection. Both sets of blocked hashtags were spotted by TechCrunch.
