MCU Fans Are Obsessed With The New Eternals Trailer

As expected, the full-length trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals dropped this morning, and it looks unlike anything we’ve ever seen from the world’s most popular franchise. Sure, the footage shows off plenty of superpowers and references to the wider mythology, but the concept at the core of the narrative paints it as a unique entry into canon.

The movie will explain why the titular team of all-powerful cosmic beings allowed Thanos to wipe out half of all living creatures with one snap of his fingers, and the Mad Titan’s fingerprints are all over the latest promo. We also get several character-driven moments as the band gets back together one-by-one, all building up to an epic face off against the Deviants with the fate of the planet at stake.

After a barren 2020, MCU fans are being spoiled this year with four feature films and five Disney Plus exclusive shows in the space of twelve months. As you can see from the reactions below, the internet is already buzzing over a trailer that’s barely even been online for a few hours.

Kevin Feige admitted that he’d never have made Eternals without the involvement of Academy Award winning director Chloe Zhao, and the filmmaker looks to have parachuted an intimate family drama into the middle of a millennia-spanning superhero ensemble piece. It’s the smaller moments that make the MCU what it is, not the CGI-driven battles against faceless armies of evil goons, something that Zhao looks to have prioritized. That being said, it’s not as if the trailer is lacking in spectacle, and there’s going to be plenty of time for each member of the cast to shine on an individual basis.

Sebastian Stan Reacts To Anthony Mackie In Captain America 4

Yesterday we learned that Anthony Mackie is locked in to play Sam Wilson in Captain America 4. This will continue his arc from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which explored the fallout of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers’ retirement, and Wilson overcoming his initial reluctance to wield the shield.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier screenwriters Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson are currently hard at work on the screenplay, leading many fans to wonder whether Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will play as big a role in the movie as he did on the show.

Right now Marvel Studios’ lips are sealed, though Stan has given a telling reaction to the news on Instagram. He posted an image of the Deadline confirmation in his stories, captioning it with a straightforward “Hell. Yes.”

It’d be a shame if Stan wasn’t present for the fourth Captain America movie, as he’s got fantastic chemistry with Mackie, still has a lot of character growth to go through, and can contribute to some kickass action sequences. I’m betting that behind closed doors Stan’s agent is in talks with Marvel Studios about the terms of his contract, so expect an announcement soon.

Another actor who may or may not be back is Chris Evans. Though he’s retired from the MCU as of Endgame, there are many avenues open for him to mount a comeback. Most notable is the MCU’s recent embrace of the multiverse, meaning there could be an infinite number of alt-Steves out there that they could use if they so desired.

Personally, I hope they focus on the future rather than the past. The shadow of Steve Rogers will loom over the MCU for years to come, but it’s time for new heroes to carve out their own legacy.

More on Captain America 4 as we hear it.

MCU Fans Freaking Out After Captain America 4 Becomes Official

Even though the project was first reported to be in development the very same day the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier aired on Disney plus, it wasn’t until yesterday that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth solo Captain America movie was made official, with Anthony Mackie set to replace Chris Evans as the franchise’s leading man.

The longtime Sam Wilson has either been out of the loop or keeping his cards close to the chest, after claiming that he’d heard about his solo debut being in the works from a guy at his local grocery store, but he’s since closed a deal to suit up as the MCU’s latest and full-time star spangled superhero. Now the speculation will turn towards potential plot points, guest appearances, villains and more, but as you can see from the reactions below, fans are hyped that Captain America 4 has finally taken a massive step forward.

Looking at the Marvel Studios release calendar, we might not be seeing Captain America 4 until 2024 at the earliest. While the slate remains empty beyond Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May 2023, the likes of Deadpool 3, Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot and Jon Watts’ Fantastic Four are all further along the pre-production process, and Kevin Feige probably isn’t going to load a calendar year with more than four or five projects.

Captain America 4 doesn’t even have a director yet, which is no doubt next on the agenda with the script being tackled by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier alumni Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who’ve been working on the story for a while. Evans’ trilogy brought in over $2 billion at the box office, so Mackie will be looking to emulate his predecessor’s success and then some.

Dune Director Says Watching The Movie On TV Would Be Ridiculous

Denis Villenueve has made it abundantly clear on more than one occasion that he’s hardly thrilled at the prospect of his sci-fi epic Dune being made available to HBO Max subscribers the same day the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel comes to theaters.

While it’s hardly an ideal situation for any of the talent or filmmakers involved, Villenueve arguably has more at stake than the majority of his peers. For the most part, Warner Bros.’ 2021 release calendar is comprised of either prestige dramas, mid budget thrillers, franchise fare and the odd standalone effort like this weekend’s Reminiscence, but the Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director has a sequel under threat.

Dune comes at a cost of $165 million and only tells one half of a story, and he’s admitted that the second chapter is almost entirely dependent on how the sprawling cosmic tale fares at the box office. Business is still in the dumps with no end to the downturn in sight, and in a new interview Villenueve stated his belief that watching his latest film for the first time on a television is ridiculous.

“First of all, the enemy of cinema is the pandemic. That’s the thing. We understand that the cinema industry is under tremendous pressure right now. That I get. The way it happened, I’m still not happy. Frankly, to watch Dune on a television, the best way I can compare it is to drive a speedboat in your bathtub. For me, it’s ridiculous. It’s a movie that has been made as a tribute to the big-screen experience.”

As funny as the ‘speedboat in a bathtub’ analogy is, you can’t argue with Villenueve’s logic. All of the footage we’ve seen from Dune so far paints it as a movie that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible, and it doesn’t matter how good the setup in your living room is, you’ll never be able to replicate that experience at home.

Crossing his fingers and hoping for a solid commercial performance is one thing, but it’s up to audiences all over the world to ensure he gets the opportunity to bring the narrative to a close in a second chapter.
