Secret Invasion confirms Marvel remains the undisputed king of a troubling Hollywood trend

With the rise of deepfakes, Hollywood has not shied away from using technology to de-age its actors, with varying degrees of success. But where other media companies seem to fail, Marvel thrives, consistently bringing to our screens de-aged characters that don’t look like trash.
The latest evidence of such a feat is Secret Invasion, which showcased much younger versions of Nick Fury in episodes two and three. Instead of getting another actor to play the role, the Disney Plus show followed in Captain Marvel‘s footsteps, by digitally de-aging Samuel L. Jackson once again. What makes matters even more impressive is the fact that Fury is only one example in Marvel’s list of successfully de-aged characters, and fans are taking notice.
weird how Marvel seems to be doing consistently a much better job at this than everyone else https://t.co/lyItW5a0jb pic.twitter.com/hWsdJw4OPE

With everyone in agreement, Marvel enthusiasts then took to figuring out why exactly Fury’s de-aging is one of the best out there. Besides the obvious reasons — like giving VFX artists a proper amount of time to work their magic, and avoiding the use of deepfake for complex action scenes — there’s also the important detail of there being plenty of existing footage of Jackson in various stages of life. All that paired with the likelihood of makeup being used in combination with VFX allow Marvel to stand out from the competition when it comes to this particular subject.

Secret Invasion may be under a lot of fire for its confirmed use of A.I., but this is proof that not all of the show’s use of technology is a bad thing. When used by humans, digital advancements can lead to wonderful results.

Misplaced optimism crosses fingers for The Marvels to derail the Brie Larson hate train

Captain Marvel might have made over a billion dollars at the box office when it came out in 2019, but the title character, even if for reasons that haven’t always been the most rational, has been famously unpopular among her Marvel Cinematic Universe peers. With her second proper outing coming later this year with The Marvels, fans are hoping for a change of sentiment.
Carol Danvers wasn’t really herself throughout most of Captain Marvel, one fan argues. Now free of the Kree’s mind control and with 30 years of hindsight behind her, Marvel has the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the character. Critics should at least have that in mind before they dismiss The Marvels altogether.
The type of hate Larson received, however, had less to do with her performance and more to do with her daring to speak out on the lack of diversity in the film review community. This was then projected onto the film by way of review bombing and general negativity. Captain Marvel wasn’t perfect, but it also wasn’t as bad as those few hurt egos made it out to be. And those won’t be motivated to keep an open mind going into The Marvels if you paid them to.
Most of the comments under this Reddit post present a sample of that exact scenario. It turns out a lot of people don’t actually have a problem with Carol Danvers at all, even if they admit the film wasn’t as good as it could have been.
As some also point out, the request to give Carol a second chance stems from the contained space of online fandom, where issues and debates tend to be blown out of proportion. The outside world, as proven by Captain Marvel‘s billion-dollar box office, never really cared.
The Marvels will see Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau join Laron’s Captain Marvel in her intergalactic adventures. The film hits theaters Nov. 10.

The reason The Batman and Superman: Legacy arent doing origin stories is Zack Snyder obviously

Neutron stars are the densest objects in the known universe, second only to the most neurotically dedicated fans of Zack Snyder and their unprecedented collective illusion.
I’ll be the first to say that Snyder’s work can be a lot of fun; when it comes to ideas, ambition, and direction, the Justice League helmsman is top-notch in every sense of the word, even if his writing and overall execution undermine his work irreparably.
But, I’ll also be the first to say that DC’s cinematic endeavors are in fantastic hands right now; between James Gunn spearheading the new DC Universe and Matt Reeves steering a prominent Elseworlds ship with his Batman franchise, this legendary superhero mythos looks all but ready to fly higher than ever. Still, all the present quality in the world couldn’t birth a rational thought from the depths of the Snyder cult.
Zack did such a phenomenal job with both origins that both Matt Reeves and James Gunn decided not to even try lmaoooo pic.twitter.com/IfWd4iqyIR

Indeed, instead of considering the fact that the origin stories of Batman and Superman have been beaten within millimeters of their lives, one Snyder devotee jumped straight to the conclusion that Gunn and Reeves were too intimidated by their overlord’s time in the DC chair to attempt origin stories of their own.
Twitter’s response, futile as it was, boasted a bit of a straighter head on its shoulders, so to speak.
You know DAMN well that’s not why

Man of Steel has the worst version of Superman's origin story what are you talking about

Pa Kent's death is one of the best moments in the comics and its literally laughable in the movie(@ThorneChan) July 4, 2023
The characters are heading towards a century old, we don’t really need origins for them any more, we’ve seen it a dozen times already. Marvel didn’t do an origin for Spider Man either, for similar reasons.
— Len McCain (@TelepresenceLen) July 4, 2023
I’m convinced at this point that the Snyder cult is an intentionally provocative practical joke that the rest of us simply aren’t in on; I enjoyed the Army films to an extent, and I’m looking forward to Rebel Moon.
However, there’s a substantially fine line between liking someone’s work, and putting someone on so high a pedestal that you not only develop a seething hatred for their competitors, but start to speak in a way that’s so clearly detached from reality that you harm the public image of your messiah much more than you help it.
