Review: ‘The Princess’ is a violent, camp, and cheesy cult classic in the making

Audiences have watched Joey King grow up in front of their very eyes, from her early roles in blockbusters including The Conjuring, White House Down, and Independence Day: Resurgence, right through to Netflix’s wildly popular The Kissing Booth trilogy, via her Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated turn in limited series The Act. Brace yourselves, though, because her action hero era is upon us, and The Princess couldn’t be a more exciting way to introduce the new, improved, and ass-kicking King.

The Hulu original comes bearing a randomly unexpected array of talent on either side of the camera, and the end result is fittingly chaotic. Directed by Vietnamese filmmaker Le-Van Kiet, a genre-hopping talent who followed up hit local horror The Ancestral with panned shark attack thriller The Requin, works from an economical script penned by Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton.

MCU fans grow wistful for the good old days of… Phase One?

Phase One was an exciting time for Marvel fans. The newly formed Marvel Studios was embarking on a hugely ambitious project that’d bring some lesser-known heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow to the big screen. Even more impressively, it was attempting to build something called a “cinematic universe” and one day we’d get a team-up movie featuring all the heroes.

Many were skeptical that The Avengers could make a team featuring a Norse God and a really good archer believable but… well, Marvel Studios knocked it out of the park, smashed box office records, and made cinematic history. Now some MCU fans are casting their minds back to the olden days when an MCU movie was still an unknown bet at the box office and feeling a tickle of nostalgia.

Fans wonder what comes next for the Jedi in the current ‘Star Wars’ timeline

Ever since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans have wondered what the future holds for Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker. The storytelling potential is obvious: she ignited her own yellow saber, adopted the name Skywalker, and gazed off into Tatooine’s twin sunrise with BB-8 at her side.

Rey must have had adventures after that, with official Star Wars books vaguely confirming that she eventually became a Jedi Master and that her exploits passed into galactic legend. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special even showed Rey beginning to instruct Finn on how to use the Force, so clearly Disney approves of her starting to teach others.
