The next Nintendo Switch Online games include Donkey Kong Country 2
Nintendo has announced the next round of games to be added to the ever-growing Nintendo Switch Online retro library. The headliner is Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, the 1995 sequel to the original Donkey Kong Country that was added to Nintendo Switch Online back in July.
I will be straight with you and admit that I am not a Donkey Kong Country fan. But I am a Picross fan, so I’m excited for the next addition: Mario’s Super Picross, a 1995 SNES game that has never been released in the US. (It did see release on the Wii and Wii U Virtual Console in PAL regions, though.)
If you’re not a Picross player already, Nintendo has posted a tutorial for Mario’s Super Picross here:

Trump nominates social media hawk as next FCC commissioner
President Donald Trump has nominated longtime telecom lawyer Nathan Simington to be the Federal Communications Commission’s next commissioner, as reported by Law360.
Last week, The Verge first reported that Simington had emerged as a leading candidate to replace current Republican Commissioner Mike O’Rielly. Simington, a senior adviser at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), played a significant role in drafting a petition required under the Trump administration’s social media executive order issued over the summer. The order instructs the FCC, after receiving NTIA’s petition, to reinterpret Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Apple posts ASL translation of its ‘Time Flies’ event
Apple made an American Sign Language translation of its “Time Flies” event available on its website on Tuesday (via AppleInsider). There are two screens in the ASL-translated event replay — the left one shows the event video, while the one on the right shows someone translating what’s being said in ASL.
Apple is already well-known for its accessibility features in its products. iOS 14, the company’s next major iPhone update, gives users some significant improvements. It can alert you when your iPhone picks up certain sounds such as a dog’s bark, for example. Another new feature lets you double- or triple-tap the back of your phone to perform a custom task. And if you’re using sign language while on a group FaceTime call, iOS 14 can...

Airbnb is letting people stay in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s mansion and I really want to book a night
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s first episode aired 30 years ago this month, and to celebrate the milestone, Airbnb is allowing people to spend the night in the same mansion used in the popular 90s sitcom — but only if you are a resident in Los Angeles County.
Starting September 29th, residents will have the chance to spend $30 to spend one night in the freshest mansion in Los Angeles County with one additional person. Residents can select from one of five available dates: October 2nd, October 5th, October 8th, October 11th, and October 14th.
In case you didn’t know already, I was born in the mid-90s, so even though I was very young when the show originally aired, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was syndicated on a ton of TV channels. There...

AT&T CEO wants you to consume ads in exchange for a slightly cheaper phone plan
AT&T is mulling offering wireless phone plans that would be subsidized in part by ads, CEO John Stankey said in an interview with Reuters.
“I believe there’s a segment of our customer base where given a choice, they would take some load of advertising for a $5 or $10 reduction in their mobile bill,” Stankey said. The new plans could be offered beginning in “a year or two,” according to Stankey.
AT&T has experimented with at least one form of brand-subsidized phone plan in the past, though it didn’t exactly pass along the savings to you. The “Sponsored Data” program, which was announced back in 2014, let brands pay AT&T so they could deliver their content without counting...

Tom Welling Reportedly In Talks To Cameo In The Flash
When Ezra Miller made a surprise cameo appearance on The Flash, it opened the door to the possibility that the big screen DCEU and The CW’s Arrowverse could potentially cross over in the future, especially when the Scarlet Speedster’s feature length solo debut is poised to introduce the multiverse, meaning that technically nothing is off limits.
The show’s executive producer Eric Wallace certainly hopes that turns out to be the case, and Warner Bros. will be looking to pull out all the stops to establish their multiverse as the one to beat, especially with Kevin Feige reportedly planning on loading up his Doctor Strange sequel with cameos to steal some of The Flash‘s thunder.
Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are both confirmed to be playing Batman, and there’s been no shortage of rumors making the rounds that countless alumni from the extensive history of DC movies and TV shows could find themselves getting involved as well. In fact, we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones that told us Affleck would be back for the film a month before it was officially confirmed – that Smallville star Tom Welling is also on the list.
According to our intel, The Flash is set to go heavy on fan service, and the studio see a brief cameo from The CW’s original Clark Kent as a way to get people talking, even though Tyler Hoechlin would be the more obvious candidate given his ties to the Arrowverse. That being said, Welling has 217 episodes of experience under his belt and having only appeared in a combined 28 episodes of television and three movies since Smallville wrapped up almost a decade ago, one of which saw him reprising the role of Clark Kent in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event, finding a gap in his schedule shouldn’t be too difficult.

Chris Evans Opens Up On Leaked Nude Photo, Calls It Embarrassing
Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Evans was trending on Twitter all weekend – as was Captain America, for that matter – but not for a good reason. Rather, Evans and the role that made him an A-lister were trending because he accidentally shared a nude photo on his Instagram account, which understandably sent his millions of followers – and the internet as a whole – into a meltdown.
Though it was quickly deleted, it didn’t take long for folks to screengrab it and the pic began spreading around social media in no time. Thankfully, the commotion seems to have died down now, with Evans presumably sensing a bit of relief, and in a recent interview, he opened up on the situation, saying it was a “very interesting weekend,” while calling the whole thing “embarrassing.”
“Look, it was a very interesting weekend, full of lessons learned,” Evans said in a stop on the Tamron Hall show. “You know, things happen. It’s embarrassing but you gotta roll with the punches. I will say, I have some pretty fantastic fans who really came to my support. That was really, really nice.”
Like the actor says here, “things happen,” and he’s far from the first celebrity to have something private leak out. Besides, just as was to be expected, the incident has already started to fade from memory, with a new week beginning and more important matters squeaking into the spotlight.
That’s not to say everyone’s already forgotten about Chris Evans‘ little mishap, but the initial wave of commotion has died down considerably and presumably, it won’t be long before the internet shifts its focus to something else entirely. For now, though, it’s nice to see the actor taking the whole thing so well and, as he says above, the fans have certainly shown their support over these last few days. Which has no doubt made the situation a bit easier on him.
Let’s just hope that he truly has learned his lesson and that nothing like this happens to the actor again.

Noah Hawley’s Star Trek 4 On Hold, Will Feature Brand New Crew
What’s next for the Star Trek movie franchise has been the question that fans have been wondering for four years now. For a while there, Paramount seemed to have thrown their lot in with Fargo creator Noah Hawley, who was revealed to be attached to write and direct Star Trek 4 late last year. Since then, we’d worked out that the studio had changed their minds again.
Hawley has now confirmed this in a new interview, as well as revealing the first plot details of his take which we may or may not end up seeing. He told Variety that he had completed his script for the movie, and also begun to work with designers to help conceptualize the film’s look and visual feel. However, Paramount’s new boss Emma Watts then instructed him to put ST4 “on hold.”
Potentially the reason Watts got cold feet on the project is because Hawley wanted to reboot the franchise, rather than carry on with Chris Pine’s Kirk and the Enterprise crew. Or even any other familiar Trek crew.
“We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard. It’s a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with Fargo, where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,’ and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.”
As Hawley reminds us, he’s known for taking a pre-existing property and subverting audience’s expectations by serving up a lot of original content – see Fargo and his trippy Marvel series Legion. So, we shouldn’t be shocked that he’s planning to do the same with Trek. It’s intriguing that he was going to introduce his own characters, though, rather than build on a recognizable IP.
To clarify, Hawley went on to tell Variety that his movie isn’t dead, but is just “in stasis.” Still, other reports have pointed to Watts favoring the idea of reviving the original Star Trek 4, starring Pine and Chris Hemsworth as Kirk’s dad. While the movie side of things continues to be in disarray, at least there’s plenty of Trek TV content to keep us well fed. Lower Decks currently airs weekly on CBS All Access, before Discovery season 3 kicks off on October 15th.
