The return of Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War was the kind of fan-pleasing twist that you’d normally expect to be reserved for the most out-there of forum theories, but now that Johann Schmidt has joined the likes of Thanos and Loki as one of the rare MCU villains to last beyond a single movie, the question is raised of whether this comeback might continue in next year’s Avengers 4.
Of course, seeing how actor Ross Marquand managed to keep a secret as big as his role in the Russo Brothers’ last movie under wraps, it only figures that he’d have the restraint to keep mum about any future MCU appearances, or lack thereof. And so when The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman asked the star in a recent episode of Talking Dead whether he’d be in the Infinity War sequel, Marquand was careful to give the writer nothing.
“I don’t know,” Marquand stated. “I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know.”
Earlier this month, Sebastian Stan made the same questionable claim that he doesn’t actually know if he’ll be appearing in Avengers 4, since the film and its predecessor were shot at the same time. But while there’s a chance that Marquand is legitimately uncertain about whether he’ll have any screen time in the final cut of next year’s release, the more likely story here is that he’s simply refusing to tell, which raises the question of whether he does indeed have something to hide.
Either way, Avengers 4 is already looking to be packed full of familiar figures, among whom are likely to be a few more characters that most of us had assumed to be out of the franchise for good. It’s the end of an era for the MCU, and we’ll find out who’s been brought in to see out the grand finale when the film hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
Reuters broke the news this weekend that Logitech was in talks to acquire headphone maker Plantronics for more than $2.2 billion, but it looks like the deal isn’t happening. Logitech tells TechCrunch that “while it had engaged in discussions with Plantronics about a potential transaction, it had terminated the negotiations.”
A $2.2 billion deal would have been Logitech’s biggest acquisition to date by far, although it wouldn’t necessarily have reflected a particularly high valuation of Plantronics’ consumer business. Earlier this year Plantronics itself bought out video-conferencing solutions maker Polycom for $2 billion, which had to have been the main factor in Logitech’s willingness to pay so much.
Bitcoin is in the middle of an astounding price drop, reaching prices as low as $3,520 in recent days and wiping out all gains from coins purchased this year. As of press time, the price was hovering around $3,900, a roughly 40 percent drop from two weeks ago. The result is the worst price drop since April 2013, refreshing old doubts about the soundness of bitcoin as an investment vehicle.
It’s a dramatic turn from 2017, when the value passed $15,000 in the beginning of December to peak just below $20,000. After that, prices plummeted. By January of this year, it lost half of its peak value, and continued to drop. The drop has been particularly dramatic in the last couple of weeks.
The price drop is likely the result of a series of forks...
Video game, comic book, and book publisher Rebellion is expanding into film and television with the launch of a $100 million studio, which Variety says will serve the company’s upcoming motion picture projects.
The company purchased a former newspaper shop in Didcot, west of London, which will provide 220,000 square feet of space and a 25,000 square foot soundstage.
Rebellion is known for video games like Sniper Elite and Alien vs. Predator, as well as comic books like 2000 AD, which features its own host of characters and stories. Variety says that this new studio will be used for a pair of upcoming adaptations of the publisher’s IP: a Judge Dredd TV show, called Judge Dredd: Mega City, as well as an adaptation of another 2000 AD...
Following on the heels of those red-and-blue helmet illustrations shared a few days ago, we now have a new batch of Captain Marvel promo art which show off the MCU’s most powerful hero in her classic costume.
With various merchandise for Marvel Studios’ next movie soon becoming available for pre-order, we’re starting to get a better feel for how Brie Larson’s character is going to be sold to us, with one image – seemingly on the cover of a diary or notebook – showing Carol Danvers as resolute, strong-minded, and ready for the fight, while a few jets fly behind her just for emphasis.
Another of these artworks was actually leaked to the public earlier this year, but it’s worth getting a second look at the glowing orange of Captain Marvel’s hands, along with her spacey background. Lastly, we have what appears to be a logo for the character, in which our hero is looking pretty Christ-like with her hands and head radiating light as she makes her ascent.
Overall, it’s a nice set of images, even if they don’t have a whole lot of new info to offer. Either way, this last week or so has proven fairly fruitful when it comes to Captain Marvel material, with set photos from the movie’s LA reshoots giving us a few more glimpses of Carol in her alternate Kree outfit, not to mention further pics of Clark Gregg as a young Phil Coulson.
All the same, the fans would be pretty grateful if Marvel Studios ever thought to throw us a second trailer. The predictions for when that footage could drop have ranged from December 8th at Brazil’s CCXP to mid-January, but one date that we can be sure of is the release of Captain Marvel on March 8th, 2019.
After six post-apocalyptic thrillers in only 10 years, writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson brought the Resident Evil series to a close with The Final Chapter, a conclusive, though somewhat underwhelming finale to one of the more enjoyable action series of the past decade.
That was back in 2016, and ever since, Constantin Films has been planning a big-screen revival of Resident Evil, one which will come to theaters through James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman) and Mortal Kombat screenwriter Greg Russo. Not much has been said about the studio’s plans just yet, but one thing we can tell you is that Anderson won’t be involved, as he’s already working on his follow-up gig: Monster Hunter.
Nevertheless, there are still many reasons to be excited about what’s coming our way and now, we’ve got one more to add to the list. Speaking with Discussing Film, Russo explained that the reboot will be going back to the horror roots of the franchise, rather than heading down a more action oriented route like Anderson’s films did.
“Obviously I’m a huge fan of the franchise so to work on that was a lot of fun,” says Russo. “For me it was very clear cut that I wanted to go back and make it scary again like a horror film in terms of the classic James Wan style so that was the pitch, going back and looking what made the games scary in the first place so yea Resident Evil 7 was a bit of a touchstone for my draft.”
“Not to shame the original film franchise that was made, I think that did very well. But I always considered the franchise to be horror at the forefront and action as a secondary feature.”
Obviously, this is good news for fans of Resident Evil. Anderson’s efforts were enjoyable, sure, but they did do away with a lot of the horror that the franchise is known for. It was easy to get lost in the over the top ass kicking and action that the movies provided, but a few more scares would’ve been nice – especially in the later installments.
With James Wan on board to produce, it certainly sounds like we’ll be getting a more horror oriented slant on Resident Evil with this reboot and at the moment, we remain hopeful that Constantin Films is cooking up something special for us. A bit of casting news would certainly be nice, though, because whoever takes over as series lead is going to have a tough time following in the footsteps of Milla Jovovich.
