New Details On Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s Jet Troopers Revealed
Disney have been dropping a lot of Star Wars news at this year’s D23 expo, including a trailer for The Mandalorian and confirmation of an Obi-Wan Kenobi series. In regards to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker though, we’ve seen some new footage from the movie at the expo, including hints of Rey going to the Dark Side and more clues as to the role of Emperor Palpatine.
The Star Wars presence at D23 also included a look at some of the costumes and props from The Rise of Skywalker though, notably the Jet Troopers we briefly saw in the trailer, available above if you want a refresher. Furthermore, photos taken by /Film at D23 show the costume for what we now know are called First Order Jet Troopers, and are described as so:
“Specialized Stormtroopers of the First Order, jet troopers soar into battle equipped with agile rocket packs.”
Pretty cool, right? At least, if the Jet Troopers are more fortunate with their equipment than Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi. We’ve also seen plenty of Stormtroopers suffer accidents in the franchise, so it’s perhaps not out of the question that these troops will experience problems. Of course, we’ve seen Stormtroopers with jet packs during the Clone Wars, and in Star Wars: Battlefront II, but these seem to be new types of soldiers.
More specifically, the Jet Troopers appear to have replaced rocket troopers as the name of choice for troops with aerial specialties. These troopers first appeared in the canon comic series Poe Dameron 1: Black Squadron, Part 1, and again in the Legend Found arc of the same series. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Jet Troopers seem to be deployed to hunt down Finn, Poe and C-3PO, and may appear in other parts of the movie.
The prominence of the Jet Troopers at D23 also hints at the increased power of the First Order in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as its potential relationship to the return of Emperor Palpatine. Beyond that, their role remains hazy, but we’ll be looking forward to seeing how the Jet Troopers fare when the latest entry in the Star Wars franchise hits theaters on December 20th.

The Eternals Cast Show Off Their Awesome Costumes
Marvel Studios has big plans for The Eternals. The film will apparently give us a deep dive into the MCU’s past, with its immortal cast of heroes battling through history. This fresh perspective should allow us to really get into the cosmological origins of various elements of the universe, and will also introduce a very large cast of new characters.
Now, at Disney’s D23 Expo, we’ve finally been given the chance to see what they’ll look like as the characters were presented in concept art with (most of) their actors standing in front of them. From right to left, there’s Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Selma Hayek (Ajak), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Don Lee (Gilgamesh), Angelina Jolie (Thena) and Barry Keoghan (Driug).
The Eternals were created by the King himself, Jack Kirby, and it seems as if these costumes have taken direct inspiration from his designs. They’re covered in mysterious-looking glyphs and patterns, which almost resemble what we’ve already seen in Doctor Strange. The MCU has returned to the Kirby well many times, of course, most obviously in the fantastic Thor: Ragnarok which aped his style so closely they even put a giant piece of his artwork on the Grandmaster’s wall as decoration.
As you surely know, the other big Eternals news today is that Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington has been confirmed to be joining the cast as Black Knight/Dane Whitman. That character’s not an Eternal, but my theory is that there’ve been heroes throughout the history of the MCU and he might be one from the distant past. It’d certainly fit in with Harington’s body of work wielding a sword and riding a horse.
In any case, though there’s still a long way to go before the film’s release, I think there’s a good chance we’ll get at least a teaser trailer sometime around Christmas. Here’s hoping.

Daisy Ridley Teases Rey’s Struggle With The Dark Side In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
Lucasfilm unveiled some brand new footage of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at D23 today and, while it hasn’t yet landed online, descriptions have already spread around like wildfire on social media as it teases a shocking twist. Rey was depicted wearing a dark robe and wielding a double-sided red lightsaber. As the look summons up images of the Sith and the same weapon has previously been used by Darth Maul, it seems a lot like Rey has gone to the Dark Side.
So, what the heck is going on here? Well, Variety caught up with Daisy Ridley after the panel and asked her about the footage. Obviously, Ridley’s a pro at keeping Star Wars spoilers under her hat by this point, but her response does hint at a big struggle for Rey to come in Episode IX.

— Variety (@Variety) August 24, 2019
After jokingly refusing to confirm whether she got to work with a double-edged lightsaber, Ridley said it was “great” to play both the Light and Dark Sides.
“It’s been great,” the actress explained. “I also think it’s, weirdly, the most human thing. Everyone struggles. Everyone’s has their thing of, like, ‘one thing’s pulling me this way, one thing’s pulling me this way. What’s this journey gonna be and where am I gonna end up?’ So it’s fun to play that.”
After The Force Awakens positioned Rey as the wholly good antithesis to Kylo Ren’s darkness, The Last Jedi saw the heroine dip her toe into the Dark Side and appear to be tempted, on some level, to join the First Order leader. Both Rey and Kylo ultimately decided to pick opposing sides in Episode VIII, but it makes sense that her dalliance with darkness will continue in Rise. Especially if Palpatine is manipulating her, as the movie’s poster seems to suggest.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th. The footage screened at D23, meanwhile, will be officially released this Monday.

First Trailer For Breaking Bad Movie Asks Where’s Jesse Pinkman?
While Walter White and Breaking Bad may’ve met their end in 2013, the series left behind a permanent mark on pop culture. And its legacy has only grown in size and importance ever since 2015 with the impressive, if not quite as good spinoff show Better Call Saul.
But late last year, we heard that a Breaking Bad movie was in the works, with creator Vince Gilligan set to write and direct Jesse Pinkman’s new Walter-less adventure. And though that news sent the internet into a meltdown, there hasn’t been much else to report on since then. Until now, that is.
After revealing the release date and plot outline for the pic earlier today, Netflix surprised us all by also dropping the first trailer for what they’ve titled El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Premiering on October 11th, we don’t see much footage here, but the preview shows us Skinny Pete being interrogated by the police as they want to know where Jesse Pinkman is.
For more, here’s that aforementioned summary:
“The Netflix Television Event El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie reunites fans with Jesse Pinkman (Emmy-winner Aaron Paul). In the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future,” Netflix said in a statement. “This gripping thriller is written and directed by Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad. The movie is produced by Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein, Charles Newirth, Diane Mercer and Aaron Paul, in association with Sony Pictures Television.”
Unfortunately, we don’t yet know which of Pinkman’s co-stars may be joining him in El Camino, but Bryan Cranston has already voiced his interest in returning as Walter White (perhaps via flashback?). Though at the moment, there’s no confirmation on whether that’ll happen or not.
In any case, with the cat now out of the bag and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie finally revealed to the world, you can expect to learn more ahead of its premiere this fall. But until then, tell us, do you think Gilligan’s masterpiece will translate well into a feature film? Let us know in the usual place below.

J.J. Abrams Says Leia’s The Heart Of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
Carrie Fisher sadly passed away in December 2016, but General Leia Organa’s story will continue in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. It’s previously been revealed that unused footage from The Force Awakens will be respectively utilized to include the all-important character in the closer to the trilogy. And at D23 today, director J.J. Abrams promised that Leia will be key to the narrative.
“The character of Leia is really, in a way, the heart of this story,” Abrams told the crowd at the expo, according to Variety. “We realized we could not possibly tell the end of these nine films without Leia. We realized that we had footage from Episode VII, and we could use it in a new way.”
Rise is not just due to wrap up the Sequel Trilogy but is also being touted as the end of the entire Skywalker saga. So, Abrams is right that they couldn’t have completed that legend without involving Leia. It’s the same reason that Mark Hamill is going to return as Luke, as well, despite the character passing away in The Last Jedi.
A prominent role for the former princess of Alderaan is something that’s been consistent since Episode IX’s conception though, as Hamill revealed back in 2017 that Fisher would have had a big part in the film. And this was back when Colin Trevorrow was still helming. It’s heartening to hear that this is still the case, with Abrams apparently finding a creative, fulfilling use for Fisher’s deleted TFA footage. Carrie’s brother Todd Fisher has even said he’s thrilled with how she’s been incorporated into the movie.
Of course, D23 also saw the release of a new poster for the pic as well as a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel. The latter has yet to drop online, but is expected to land on Monday.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, meanwhile, hits theaters on December 20th.
