If you have an Amazon Prime account and trust one of the world’s most prolific writers, you may want to take a look at the indie movie Wade in the Water. According to Stephen King, it’s very much worth a watch, as he enthusiastically stated on his Twitter Thursday evening when he called it “a little movie with a big heart.”
King points out that Wade in the Water is devoid of any major special effects or high-cost sets, but he makes note of the performances of the film’s two leads, Tom E. Nicholson and Danika Golembek. Luckily, he isn’t alone in thinking it’s a fantastic movie, either, as critics have praised it for its intimate storytelling and compelling writing, so it’s one you may not want to sleep on.
WADE IN THE WATER (Amazon Prime): No big FX, no expensive sets, but two pretty exceptional performances. It's a little movie with a big heart.

Wade in the Water tells the story of an ordinary man who accidentally receives a disc containing child pornography. Having dealt with childhood abuse himself, he finds himself unable to turn the information over to police, instead making the choice to track down and kill the pedophile who was meant to receive the disc. In a twist of events, the pedophile’s daughter manages to track the would-be vigilante down first, and thus ensues a story about morality and unexpected friendship.
Of course, this is by far not the first time Stephen King has made recommendations for shows and movies on Twitter. In recent months, he’s been giving people plenty to keep up with during quarantine, such as his recommendation of Escape at Dannemora and his endorsement of the incredibly unusual film Deranged Granny. One thing is certain, though – if one of the world’s most beloved writers tells you something is good, there’s a pretty good chance it is, so make sure to take a look at Wade in the Water.
It’s hard to overstate the impact Detective Pikachu had when it first released last year. Although it certainly wasn’t everyone’s favorite movie of the year, it nonetheless proved that live-action adaptations of video games could be faithful, well-produced, and emotionally resonant after gamers had been fed nothing but Hollywood’s stalest leftovers for decades. With that success in mind, the fact that Legendary Pictures quickly greenlight a second Pokémon movie seems like a no-brainer in retrospect, but our sources claim they plan to go above and beyond with one particular casting choice.
Inside sources trusted by WGTC—the same ones who previously told us the upcoming Dune film would be delayed to 2021 and that Jared Leto’s Joker will be given a makeover in Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoots, both of which proved true—say that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s very own Spider-Man is being considered for a new Pokémon spinoff and he’s being eyed for the role of Blue Oak.
Should he go through with the role, Holland will find himself in relatively unfamiliar territory, having become best known for playing shy genius characters in the MCU and Spies in Disguise. Blue, on the other hand, is a brash and cocky bully who exists in the story for little reason beyond taunting the player character and later being outplayed by them. But since Holland’s experience covers a much broader range of roles than people may be familiar with, this may be just what he needs to avoid being typecast.
As with all news on movies still in development though, it’s important to remember that nothing is set in stone until it’s been shot and released. The film industry is very complex and things can change at a moment’s notice for any number of reasons. Still, one has to wonder if Tom Holland’s presence in the next Pokémon movie might finally convince Danny DeVito to give fans the Pikachu performance they’ve been asking for.
It’s fair to say that Millie Bobby Brown has been good for Netflix, from her pivotal role in Stranger Things to the recent success of Enola Holmes. We’re now hearing, via Daniel Richtman, that the 16-year-old actress is reportedly getting a big first-look deal with Netflix, which might include being chosen to lead her own action franchise. While details are still thin on the ground, it seems clear that the streaming platform want to keep working with Brown as much as possible.
Brown is still perhaps best known for her performance as ‘El’ (Eleven) on Stranger Things, where over three seasons she has gradually developed from being treated as a lab experiment to evolving into a powerful hero. Over the years, El has also picked up on her lost years of socialization, and in the most recent season had formed a romantic relationship with Finn Wolfhard’s Mike.
Her performance as Eleven have won Brown critical praise, including Emmy nominations and other awards. When not taking part in Stranger Things, she has built up an impressive social media presence, and has become a model for various brands, as well as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. With this in mind, it’s easy to forget sometimes that Brown is just 16, given her ubiquity in the last few years.
How an action-based series built around Millie Bobby Brown would shape up is still unclear, although she has proven herself to be able to handle the genre through both Stranger Things and the Godzilla movies. Meanwhile, her starring turn as Enola Holmes provided her with plenty of opportunities to show off her physical abilities, while she’s already lined up to battle a dragon in the feminist-themed fantasy Damsel, and star in thriller The Girls I’ve Been.
It does seem, though, that Holmes is one of the primary reasons why Netflix are apparently willing to invest in Brown’s future, with the original film breaking records on the streamer in 2020. We could definitely see Brown turning up as a spy or a superhero, and if she does go for an exclusive contract with Netflix, then it may mean that she gets something separate from the MCU or other major series.
What kind of action movie do you think would best suit Millie Bobby Brown, though? As ever, let us know in the comments down below.
Robert Downey Jr. may have gracefully bowed out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but the shadow of Tony Stark will continue to loom large over the franchise for the foreseeable future. Almost every major story beat across the Infinity Saga connected to the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist in some fashion, and the trend looks set to carry on for a while yet.
Tony was integral to Peter Parker’s arc in Spider-Man: Far From Home, while Black Widow‘s villain Taskmaster is also rumored to have a connection to Stark Industries. The most notable, though, is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which seems set to finally pay off a slow burning storyline that was first put into motion in Iron Man twelve years ago.
The plot of Jon Favreau’s blockbuster introduced the nefarious Ten Rings organization, which was then picked up again in Iron Man 3, leading to the divisive Trevor Slattery reveal. However, Marvel retconned the twist in One-Shot All Hail the King, where it was revealed that the Mandarin was very real and wasn’t happy about his name being appropriated by a jobbing actor, while they were also mentioned as one of the parties interested in buying the Pym Particles from Darren Cross in Ant-Man.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has cast Tony Leung as the genuine Mandarin, and based on the title alone, we know that the titular terrorists are going to be heavily involved. Given the connective tissue that’s always been so integral to the MCU, Tony’s death may even be the catalyst for the group to emerge from the shadows, as Simu Liu’s title hero figures out his adoptive father is up to no good and makes it his mission to put an end to the Ten Rings once and for all.
