Ben Affleck Says Robert Pattinson’s Going To Be Great As Batman

Two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck is no stranger to superhero cinema. The foul-mouthed Falmouthian graduated from Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse, itself deeply steeped in the culture of comics, to play the first live-action incarnation of attorney-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock in the 2003 movie Daredevil before going on to become the latest in a long line of actors to portray the Caped Crusader on the big-screen in the DC Extended Universe installments Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and, briefly, Suicide Squad.

In between, he also turned in a performance as real-life actor George Reeves, who in turn played Clark Kent throughout the 1950s on Adventures of Superman, in the 2006 biopic Hollywoodland, and was, for a time, set to once more don the cowl of the Dark Knight in the forthcoming film The Batman. Originally intent on pulling quadruple duty on the project as producer, director, writer, and star, Affleck coscripted the story – which was said to be set in Arkham Asylum while examining the horrors of insanity, not unlike last year’s Academy Award winning Joker – with former DC Comics President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

Speaking with Jake Hamilton, Affleck explained why he gradually stepped away from all four roles and the DCEU entirely, saying:

“It just so happened that I had done a couple of those movies, and I kind of lost my passion for it… And it just seemed, like, very clear to me that if it’s not the most important thing in the world to you, you’re not going to make a very good movie. The movie deserves to be made by someone who’s dying to do it.”

Discussing his “mostly original” storyline, he said:

“I showed somebody The Batman script. They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again’.”

In the end, directorial control would be turned over to Matt Reeves, producing credits would be turned over to Reeves and Dylan Clark, and screenwriting duties would be turned over to Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The role of a younger Bruce Wayne in his sophomore year of operation, meanwhile, would go to The Lighthouse co-star Robert Pattinson, and Affleck, like fellow superhero portrayer Robert Downey Jr., is enthusiastic to see what the Englishman brings to the part. “I think Robert’s a great actor,” he told Hamilton. “He’s going to do great.”

Affleck can be seen next in the basketball drama The Way Back on March 6th, while The Batman premieres on June 25th.

Bill & Ted Face The Music Releases 6 Month Countdown Teaser

Wanna hear something excellent, my dudes and dudettes and non-binaryettes? We all get to see Keanu’s smooth, un-aged face in a mere six months! Also, Alex Winter is there, and he’s very nice, so we should be excited for that, too! Where are we seeing these fellas? Why, in Bill & Ted Face The Music of course! We’ve already waited 19 years, so what’s another half a year, right?

Orion Pictures released a lil’ baby teaser today on Instagram to celebrate the occasion, though it’s just a re-purposed clip from Excellent Adventure with “Six Months” overlayed on the two doing some air guitar celebrations, and doesn’t showcase any new footage. Still, it’s sharing the spirit and excitement that many folks have for this upcoming sequel.

What we know about Face The Music’s plot tells us that our hapless middle-aged slackers are being given roughly 80 minutes to save the world with their music. Time means nothing to the two, however, as they use their time-traveling phone booth to avert the collapse of the universe. They’re bringing their teenaged daughters along on the history-hopping adventure, too, where they may just grow up a little bit after all.

Personally, I love both Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey, the latter of which seems to be forgotten to the sands of time, save for the addition of William Sadler’s portrayal of Death. Even in other press releases I’ve read, Face the Music is being billed more as a sequel to Excellent Adventure, with nary a mention of the second Bill and Ted journey. The latter film just doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves.

I’m glad that everyone, from Keanu to Alex Winter to co-creators Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, are so eager and game to revisit a cult classic like this, though. I’m a little wary of Orion’s involvement, but they did back Silence of the Lambs back in the day, so they’re not all bad. Here’s to hoping the newest adventure of the middle-aged slackers in Bill & Ted Face the Music is as good as the classics.

Sam Neill Teases His Return In Jurassic World 3

World treasure Sam Neill, Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, posted something super cute on Twitter today, teasing his reappearance in the franchise in Jurassic World 3.

Taking to the social media platform, as he often does, the veteran actor posted a throwback picture to his time on JP3, the better-than-you-remember sequel. He posted a picture of Dr. Grant looking a little battered, with Neill saying that he had a “tough day at the office” back in 2000. His “note to self” to bring sunscreen and an extra hat is cute, too.

This isn’t the first time Sam has talked about his return to the series after a twenty-year gap. He’s posted other cute throwbacks before, which just has Twitter frothing at the mouth for more. Personally, I think he’s one of the cuter, older gentlemen on the platform. He’s tweeted often about his love of ducks and his family, which, ya know, you literally cannot get more wholesome than that. What a treasure.

As for Jurassic World 3 itself, well, in my most humble of opinions, Fallen Kingdom was one of the absolute worst wide releases I’ve seen in quite some time. Not since, well, The Rise of Skywalker did I walk away so disappointed, but Fallen Kingdom left me more baffled than anything else. It was surprising seeing J.A. Bayona, an otherwise talented director, helming such a misfire. Even my ex hated it, and that chick loved awful stuff – like me!

So, will Jurassic World 3 be great? With the main three back, we’ll at least get that nostalgic dopamine rush. Granted, those awful assistant characters are also slated to return for more terrible comedic hijinks. Still, it’ll be nice seeing Dr. Alan Grant at least one last time, if not many more.

Watch: The Batman Set Video Teases Motorcycle Stunt Accident

A new Dark Knight has risen to the challenge of defending Gotham. The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, will be featuring Robert Pattinson in the titular role and recently, images of the Batsuit made their way online, resulting in a maelstrom of commentary exploding across social media – some enthusiastic and some not so much.

In addition to the wardrobe options though, fans have been able to get a few other glimpses into the production through more behind the scenes videos and stills. One clip that’s been captured during the filming of The Batman shows the Caped Crusader riding his Batcycle through a grand and archaic cemetery, and you can check it out down below.

The motorcycle driver, the one decked out in Batman armor, loses control of the vehicle on the rain-drenched road. It looks like he’s alright and his little flop merely comes off as amusing. The scene was shot on location in Glasgow, Scotland.

Many fans have already begun speculating what significance the cemetery sequence has in the plot of the film. One hypothetical response that’s been suggested is that the hero is visiting the Wayne graves, where his parents are buried. After all, such a scene with Bruce among the towering tombstones, solemnly paying his respect to his parents on a damp, drizzly day could act as a substitute to the infamous shooting scene that’s been used in other adaptations.

An additional theory places Catwoman at the scene of Batman‘s potential mourning. While the two motorcyclists in the video were stunt actors, it’s been determined that the one opposite the Dark Knight was a woman, and she just might be the notorious feline felon. Here’s hoping we get a better look at her soon.
