Blocking social networks after terrorist attacks can do more harm than good
Imagine for a moment that you run a small country prone to outbreaks of sectarian violence. Terrorist attacks hit a series of churches and hotels in your country on a major religious holiday, prompting fears that violence will spread. Your citizens are using social networks to get in touch with their loved ones and you coordinate disaster response efforts — but they also appear to be using those same networks to plan further violence. It’s your job to bring the situation under control in a way that balance speech rights with safety. Do you leave Facebook online, or do you shut it off?
That was the dilemma faced by Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, when at least 290 people died in a series of bombings. The government decided to take the more...

iOS 13 will let apps like Lightroom access photos directly from external storage, report claims
With iOS 13, Apple will let third-party apps import photos directly from external storage, reports 9to5Mac. If true, this would bring an end one of our key frustrations with iOS on the iPad Pro which requires importing images into the system’s camera roll before you can move them into an app like Lightroom CC. Apple previously released a Siri Shortcut to automate the process, but the new feature will make this unnecessary on the USB-C tablet aimed at professionals.
Apple also reportedly plans to announce improvements to Marzipan apps, Siri, and ARKit — Apple’s augmented reality developer kit. The iOS and macOS changes, first reported by 9to5Mac, were compiled by Guilherme Rambo with an assist from Steve Troughton-Smith.

Windows 10’s new app tabs feature has disappeared and might not return
Microsoft had been planning to introduce a tabbed apps feature in Windows 10, dubbed Sets. The company tested it with Windows Insiders, but decided not to ship it with a major release of Windows 10. It now looks like the Sets feature may never appear in Windows 10. Microsoft program manager Rich Turner revealed over the weekend that “the Shell-provided tab experience is no more,” but that adding tabs to the Windows command line is a priority.
ZDNet now reports that Microsoft has dropped plans for Sets, because the company has moved Edge over to Chromium. Edge was a big part of Sets, and it would load as part of a new tab in every Universal Windows App. It’s clear that Microsoft is prioritizing work on its new Edge browser over features...

Microsoft Paint to remain part of Windows 10 after all
Microsoft had been planning to remove its popular Paint app from Windows 10, but the company has now reversed course. The software maker had been warning Windows 10 users for months that Paint would be removed, and those warnings vanished in the latest May 2019 Update (1903). “Yes, MSPaint will be included in 1903,” says Brandon LeBlanc, a senior program manager for Windows at Microsoft. “It’ll remain included in Windows 10 for now.”
LeBlanc didn’t reveal why Microsoft had removed its warnings, but it’s clear Paint will no longer be removed from Windows 10 in the immediate future. Microsoft previously marked Paint as “deprecated,” meaning it wasn’t in active development and could be removed in future releases of Windows. The company had...

First Avengers: Endgame Reactions Hit Social Media, And They’re Incredible
More than any other Marvel release before it, there’s a ton resting on Avengers: Endgame. After Avengers: Infinity War turned out to be a massive cultural milestone last April, both Marvel Studios and the fanbase are hoping that the sequel will match or even surpass the impact that IW had just a year ago.
Of course, whether it’ll live up to all the hype or not remains to be seen, but we should find out soon enough, as reviews are set to go live later today. Specifically, they’ll be up on all the usual outlets at 3pm PST/6pm EST. That’s not too far off now, but before then, we can at least feast on some early social media reactions.
Yes, Avengers: Endgame held its world premiere in Los Angeles last night and already Twitter is flooded with Tweets, all showing tons of enthusiasm and love for the latest MCU film. And below, you’ll find just a sampling of what folks are saying:
INCREDIBLE!! #AVENGERS #ENDGAME brings the entire MCU to a rousing, exciting, deeply moving & wholly satisfying conclusion! It’s a *BEAUTIFUL* film! Fun, smart, clever, BRILLIANT! Perfect blend of action, heart & humor! This is as good as it gets! Greatest superhero movie EVER! pic.twitter.com/dMeLtvO7Gy

Just came out of the #AvengersEndgame premiere!! I’m at a lost for words!! I witnessed cinematic history. I’ve never cried, laughed & cheered so hard at a movie ever. Y’all are in for a heck of a ride!! This movie will forever change the MCU & how cinematic universes are seen!!
— Captain Kathir (@MegaLucarioX) April 23, 2019
I withdraw my statement from last year.#Endgame will be THE film that will be talked about for years to come.
How 10 years of movies with different but intertwined stories came to one perfect conclusion.
This is how you do a cinematic universe & succeed!!#AvengersEndgame https://t.co/m3b5U1mQo5

#AvengersEndgame is an astonishing, amazing film. I’ve never seen anything like it. This movie is everything I wanted to be and SO much more. Amazing.
— Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD) April 23, 2019
Just saw #AvengersEndgame and don’t want to spoil anything but trust that this movie delivers everything you’re hoping for – from a surprisingly sweet Ant-Man/Nebula team-up to a positively visceral Bucky/Cap fisting scene. They really nailed it – this saga ends on a high note
— Mekler @ the Movies! (@benmekler) April 23, 2019
THEY DID IT. Hard to believe but yeah – Marvel managed to make #AvengersEndgame both a perfect ending and a thrilling new beginning. Gonna be tough waiting til next summer to see how things shake out in Part 3. Marvel fans are in for a REAL treat
— Mekler @ the Movies! (@benmekler) April 23, 2019
Bring the tissues – #AvengersEndgame is a tearjerker. From the opening moments that reckon with the fallout of The Snap to a heartbreaking twenty minute cello solo that I gotta say Chris Evans absolutely nails, this movie is more emotional than any Marvel, or superhero film, ever
— Mekler @ the Movies! (@benmekler) April 23, 2019
Is #AvengersEndgame a crowdpleaser? Yes. Is it perfect? No. But the lows (some underwritten death scenes that fly by too quick) are far outweighed by the highs (a mournful, lilting viola piece from Rhodey that brought thehouse down). This movie RULES, plain and simple.

#AvengersEndgame is a masterful epic – a true culmination of 22 films that not only concludes the story, but expands upon it. You’ll learn more about the other movies while this one unfolds. If Infinity War is the brawn, Endgame is the brains. And wow, what an ending! pic.twitter.com/94ttBUQKJ0

Avoid spoilers at all costs. Experience #AvengersEndgame as clean as you can. It’s so one of a kind, don’t ruin it for yourself or others.

I just can’t remember a cinematic experience like the one I just had with #AvengersEndgame. Simply blown away. I feel like that movie was made for every Marvel fan, everywhere.
— Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD) April 23, 2019
While watching #AvengersEndgame, I laughed so loud, I clapped with so much force, and I cried so hard. The movie exceeds every expectation and is the perfect culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
— Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD) April 23, 2019
Spoiler free #AvengersEndgame thoughts: Fans are going to go APESHIT. #AvengersEndgamePremiere
— Joel Meares (@joelmeares) April 23, 2019
Imagine the best possible version of #AvengersEndgame and somehow the film still surpasses all expectations. I cried 5-6 times. It’s the most emotional, most epic, MCU film. A tribute to ten years of this universe and holy shit the great fan service in this movie. Soooo good.
— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) April 23, 2019
The scope of Avengers: Endgame is impossible to put into words. What Fiege & MCU achieved over last 10-years has lead to this gloriously masterful moment in cinema & it’s truly mind-blowing how beautifully paced this storytelling is. Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.
— Kevin McCarthy (@KevinMcCarthyTV) April 23, 2019
Do not go in expecting Infinity War part two. The two films are so different, yet compliment each other in all the best ways. In terms of which MCU movie to watch beforehand… honestly, all of them. What an experience – what an accomplishment#AvengersEndgame
— Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) April 23, 2019
#AvengersEndgame thoughts. Still processing: I laughed, I cried (multiple times), I screamed, but overall an EPIC ending to the Infinity Saga. #EndgamePremiereLA #Avengers #Endgame #whateverittakes
— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) April 23, 2019
Of course, these Tweets represent just a small audience and the general public could end up feeling differently about the movie when it hits theaters later this week. That being said, we’re pretty sure that these reactions will be in line with what folks feel after finally seeing Avengers: Endgame. After all, the buzz has been nothing but positive and given how much is riding on it, there’s absolutely no way Marvel has dropped the ball here. Not after they’ve come so far and churned out one megahit after another.
Not to mention that the sequel also saw some ridiculously strong pre-sales, both at home and abroad. No doubt we can expect Avengers: Endgame to completely destroy the box office this weekend then, and if the critical reviews turn out to be similar to the reactions up above, then the sky will truly be the limit for how high this era-defining movie can climb.

The Phantom Menace May’ve Predicted Palpatine’s Return In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
The first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed that the Emperor would be returning in the upcoming Episode IX via a snippet of his unmistakeable cackle. It came as a huge surprise to fans as, for the longest time, it’s been a fact of the SW universe that Palpatine died after Vader’s change of heart at the end of Return of the Jedi. But what if George Lucas actually hid the method of Darth Sidious’ return in plain sight 20 years ago?
Unlike Anakin, you’ve no doubt heard of the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. The tale of the Sith Lord who learned how to hold back death, as told to the young Vader by Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith, has long been a subject of fascination for fans and ScreenRant has suggested that we can now potentially read it as foreshadowing for the villain’s eventual resurrection.
To refresh your mind of the scene in question, watch it below:
It’s often been theorized that Sidious was the apprentice spoken of in the tale, who was taught all that Plagueis knew and then murdered his master for his trouble. But what if this wasn’t just something that fans have made up and was intended by Lucas to be the subtext of the story, thereby suggesting that Palpatine never actually died after Vader threw him down that shaft in the Death Star?
It’s an intriguing idea, certainly. After all, we know that Lucas was at least on board with the decision to bring the Emperor back, as J.J. Abrams has revealed that he consulted the franchise’s creator on his plans for Episode IX and Lucas had a real input. Plus, as SR says, Lucas was a big fan of an Expanded Universe comic from the 90s that saw Palpatine transplant his consciousness into a clone body following RotJ – apparently he used to give it out to his co-workers at Christmas.
So, perhaps George has been planning for Darth Sidious to survive all along? I guess we’ll find out for sure when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in cinemas on December 20th.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Voted Most Anticipated MCU Movie Post-Endgame
While Marvel Studios is reluctant to officially announce any new movies beyond this year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, there are already at least half a dozen films that we know to be on the way after Avengers: Endgame. And in a recent poll conducted by Rotten Tomatoes, fans voted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as their most anticipated of the lot.
Site users were given a choice of six post-Endgame features, and were allowed to vote for more than one. Taking the top spot is James Gunn’s upcoming threequel with a score of 63%. Perhaps it’s not the most surprising result, given the popularity of the first two movies. Moreover, you can imagine that a lot of fans are still giddy from last month’s announcement that Gunn has been reinstated as director after months of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, taking joint second with 48% each are Black Panther 2 and Far From Home. After that, comes Black Widow with 40%, while The Eternals and Shang-Chi trail behind with 14% and 11%, respectively. Well, it probably only figures that the two lowest scoring flicks are the ones based on properties that your average filmgoer knows next to nothing about.
Another movie that could’ve been included on this list is Doctor Strange 2. The sequel will see director Scott Derrickson back at the helm, and is thought to be hitting theaters in 2021, if not sooner. In the meantime, Avengers: Endgame is set to bring the saga’s current era to a close when it comes out this Friday, before Spider-Man: Far From Home officially wraps up Marvel’s Phase 3 when it hits theaters on July 2nd.
As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, no release date has been set, but with production expected to begin in 2021, it could be a few more years before we find out if the movie is as good as fans hope.
