Loki Director Reveals If Steve Rogers Created A Nexus Event In Avengers: Endgame

Now that Disney Plus series Loki has established the rules and regulations of time travel within the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lot of fans have been revisiting Avengers: Endgame to try and pick some holes in the time heist, given that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes changing events in the aftermath of the Battle of New York is what allowed the 2012 version of Tom Hiddleston to escape in the first place, setting the stage for everything that happened in his solo series.

One of the biggest talking points has been the adventures of Steve Rogers at the end of the movie, when he went journeying through time and space to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful places, which resulted in him showing up as an old man having lived a life of peace and happiness with Peggy Carter.

There’s been plenty of debate in the two years since then as to where Steve went, how he accomplished his mission and what he was up to for the remaining 80 years. That only increased when Loki introduced the idea of a Nexus event, and Captain America popping up all over the place to return the Stones may have gotten the TVA’s attention.

In a new interview, Loki director Kate Herron admitted she’d been thinking about it just as much as the rest of us, and offered her take on whether or not Steve and Peggy would have been pruned for messing with the Sacred Timeline.

“I’ve been thinking about this. People are going to be annoyed because it’s not a definitive answer, but also I can only really answer as a fan, right? My theory is this: It comes down to if you’re an optimist or a pessimist. If you’re an optimist, maybe it was okay for them living that way, and the branch wasn’t so severe that it didn’t need to be pruned, and that meant that they could stay together. Maybe the romantics can say somehow that managed to exist. And then the pessimists think, ‘They probably got pruned’.

It depends on how people fall on that side of things, because in my head I guess it would be… generally branches have to be pruned and then maintained, right? But it depends. Like if it’s alternate, it would imply that it’s running alongside our main timeline, so yeah. I don’t want to definitively say that they were pruned, but by our logic in the TVA, probably. But maybe where there’s a will there’s a way, and they weren’t too disruptive and managed to live happily ever after.”

Some folks were of the belief they’d spotted Agent Carter in the background of a Loki episode, which would then tie into the theory she’d been pruned for having Steve back in her life, especially when it was also confirmed the older Cap was present at her funeral as a coffin bearer, as was his younger self. It’s all very confusing, but that’s time travel.

Blade Star Takes Back Controversial Black Widow Comments, Says He Feels Bad

In the run-up to Black Widow, Marvel fans were excited to see the MCU return to the big screen, but one former Marvel star wasn’t. Stephen Dorff, who appeared in 1998’s Blade, blasted the film, saying it “looked like garbage… like a bad video game” and that he felt “embarrassed” for star Scarlet Johansson. Dorff’s comments went viral, with the internet roasting him for his anti-superhero movie opinions when he’s been a part of the genre himself.

It seems the actor regrets his comments now, though, as he’s seriously walked back on his thoughts in a new interview with TMZ. Dorff revealed that he’s old friends with Johansson and “felt bad” about what he said before.

“Oh, I love Scarlett. I think that was taken a little bit out of context,” Dorff said. “She’s a great actress. I just… I’m not a fan. I love Scarlett, though, I heard she’s going to be a mom so I wish her the best and she’s an old friend of mine so I felt bad about that comment.”

Dorff went on to change his tune a little from last time, praising Iron Man and some of DC’s efforts, and explaining that he was just in a bad mood during the previous chat and spoke more harshly than he should’ve done. He also said that he has reached out to ScarJo to apologize but has yet to receive a response.

“I haven’t seen [Black Widow], I don’t really go to those movies,” he continued. “I liked Iron Man, I like when they go a little darker. I love the Joker. I’m looking forward to the new Batman. But, you know, that guy in England got me at a moment where I was just sh*t talking a little bit and I felt a little bad about it. Happens sometimes. I haven’t heard from Scarlett, but I sent her a little note, though.”

This whole situation has a feeling of deja vu about it as we’ve seen this sort of thing play out before – an actor criticizes superhero movies, the internet gets offended, so the actor takes back the criticism. Ethan Hawke, for instance, blasted the genre in 2018 when discussing his dislike of Logan. He got some flak for his views, so Hawke clarified them in a follow-up interview. Skip ahead to now and Hawke is about to join the MCU himself in Moon Knight.

So, despite his comments, another Marvel role for Dorff isn’t out of the question. In fact, he has previously said that he’d be open to reprising Deacon Frost in the upcoming Blade reboot, which will star Mahershala Ali in the role of the vampire hunter made famous by Wesley Snipes. We don’t know when that’s getting here, but Black Widow can be seen in theaters and on Disney Plus now.

Watch: New Ghostbusters Afterlife Trailer Teases A Sequel 30 Years In The Making

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was one of the first major studio blockbusters to pack up and run once the Coronavirus pandemic hit, and the legacy sequel was initially penciled in to hit theaters all the way back in July 2020.

After being pushed back to March 2021, it was delayed again until June of this year, before once more being kicked down the calendar to November 11th. To put that into perspective, by the time audiences finally have the chance to see Afterlife on the big screen, 23 months will have passed since the debut of the first official trailer, and it’s fair to say that expectations have only increased given everything we’ve heard in the interim.

Billy Murray has been hyping up the project by telling everyone that it’ll be more than worth the wait, while Ernie Hudson said he was left speechless by an early screening, while the Mini-Pufts look set to spawn a lucrative merchandising empire of their own after capturing the imagination of fans around the world, and even Murray himself.

After the furor that surrounded Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot, which saw it end up as one of the most polarizing blockbusters of the modern era, hopes are high that Ghostbusters: Afterlife will deliver the goods, and the latest promo certainly makes it look that way by offering a solid blend of nostalgia and freshness, backed by an ensemble balanced between new recruits and legacy players.

Director and co-writer Jason Reitman isn’t just following in the footsteps of his father Ivan by helming a Ghostbusters movie, but he’s looking to deliver a sequel that lives up to expectations, which won’t be easy when longtime fans have been waiting over 30 years for a genuine follow up to the second installment.

Corey Feldman Says The Goonies 2 Could Still Happen With A New Director

When Richard Donner passed away earlier this month at the age of 91, it looked to have ended all hopes that sequels to two of his most popular movies would ever see the light of day. The filmmaker was determined to step behind the camera one last time to helm Lethal Weapon 5, but The Goonies 2 was also still on the table.

The 1985 classic has been subjected to speculation that the band could be getting back together ever since, and at various points former cast members have either confirmed or denied that it was a possibility. The Goldbergs creator Adam Goldberg revealed last year that he’d been toying with a script for close to a decade, and he was planning to hold a meeting with Donner once the restrictions put in place by the Coronavirus pandemic had ended.

That sadly didn’t come to fruition, but in a new interview original star Corey Feldman said that The Goonies 2 could yet become a reality, if someone like Goldberg were to step in and pick up the reins.

“It could happen, you never know. But, if that were the case, it would either have to be one of the cast members or it would have to be like Steven Spielberg or Chris Columbus. Or maybe if there was some kind of a pre-existing agreement between Dick and Adam Goldberg, because I know Adam Goldberg had just met with him to pitch Goonies, so if on the outside chance they had some kind of a deal written up where Dick had passed the torch and Adam could prove that, then maybe that could work. But that would be as far as I’m willing to stretch on it.”

This is a fairly big pivot on Feldman’s previous opinions on the matter, where he’s said at different stages that The Goonies 2 is either unlikely to ever be made or 100% not going to happen. Then again, he’s hardly hedging his bets on the core crew reuniting for another adventure, which is probably for the best.

Legacy sequels are hit or miss to put it lightly, and now that Donner is no longer with us, it’s best to just leave The Goonies as it is, with the movie finding a whole new set of fans with each passing generation, something that’s not going to change.

San Andreas Star Doesn’t Think A Sequel Will Happen Anymore

Having earned $474 million at the box office in the summer of 2015, Brad Peyton’s disaster epic San Andreas is the highest-grossing live-action movie of Dwayne Johnson’s career that isn’t part of either the Fast & Furious or Jumanji franchises, so it wasn’t much of a shock when a sequel was placed into active development shortly afterwards.

The initial outline was for Johnson’s helicopter rescue pilot Ray Gaines to be forced into action when volcanic eruptions and earthquakes around the Ring of Fire begin to cause devastation, and San Andreas 2 even got as far as hiring Neil Widener and Gavin James to pen the script, but over five years have passed since then and the project hasn’t gained any further momentum.

Johnson and Peyton clearly have a strong working relationship having collaborated on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Rampage either side of San Andreas, but they both seem to have moved on to other things. In a new interview, star Alexandra Daddario admitted that she doesn’t think the second installment will ever get around to happening.

“It was mentioned to me several years ago when I went in to New Line. I don’t think that the exec that I was speaking to is there anymore. But they had a draft written. As far as I know, it’s not happening. It’s been a long time. I don’t think so. I think it was in development at one point, I should say. But that happens in Hollywood all the time.”

San Andreas

He may have ruled himself out of a Fast & Furious return, but Johnson is still one of the busiest men in Hollywood, with a slew of titles in various stages of production or development including a potential multi-film Jungle Cruise series, Netflix duo Red Notice and Ball & Chain, his continued adventures in the DCEU post-Black Adam, DC League of Super-Pets, Amazon’s festive action comedy Red One, another Jumanji and Hobbs & Shaw 2, so it doesn’t look as though he’s got the time to add yet another big budget blockbuster to his plate.

San Andreas was fine for what it was, but the disaster genre hardly lends itself to sequels, so a one-and-done effort is a perfectly acceptable outcome.

Margot Robbie Says The Suicide Squad Might Be The Greatest Comic Book Movie Ever

Margot Robbie may have only made two appearances as Harley Quinn so far, but she’s experienced both the highs and lows of starring in the comic book genre already.

She was singled out as one of the only highlights from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, which was panned by critics but made a ton of money at the box office. Conversely, she produced and took top billing in Birds of Prey, which received enthusiastic reviews and has already gained a reputation as a cult favorite, even though it flopped in theaters.

The actress will be hoping third time marks the charm in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, where she headlines a star studded ensemble in an irreverent R-rated action blockbuster that’s been generating massively encouraging early reactions. In a new interview, Robbie set out her stall that the soft reboot has the potential to be one of the greatest superhero movies audiences have ever seen.

“Even if this movie wasn’t as incredible as it is, it’s still worth going to the theater just because it’s so nice to be able to go to a movie theater again. But it just so happens that this is arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest comic book film ever made. You don’t want to miss it.”

While that might verge towards the hyperbolic, it can’t be discounted either. Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy duology is held in high regard by critics and fans, with The Suicide Squad allowing him to throw off the PG-13 shackles and indulge in his favored brand of foul-mouthed debauchery.

Robbie says she’s taking a break from Harley once the film has been released, and she’ll be looking to go out on the highest note possible, especially when any plans for a Birds of Prey sequel were nixed by a poor commercial showing, meaning that the Joker’s former flame might have to rely on any continued adventures in the wake of The Suicide Squad to keep putting her stamp on someone that’s become firmly established as one of the most popular characters in the entire DCEU.
