Watch: Ron Perlman Returns In Awesome Hellboy 3 Fan Trailer

The fact that we don’t have a Hellboy 3 is one of the great tragedies of comic book cinema. Director Guillermo del Toro held onto his plans for a closer to his trilogy based on the Dark Horse Comics hero for years before it was ultimately decided to reboot the franchise. The result was last year’s relaunch starring David Harbour, and it’s fair to say no one’s clamoring for a sequel, let alone a trilogy, to that movie, given that it was a box office and critical bomb.

The only way to save the brand, then, is surely to do what should have been done in the first place and get del Toro and his leading man Ron Perlman back to make their final chapter. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for some news on that front, but this awesome new fan trailer gives us an idea of how it might go down. YouTube creator StryderHD has put together the above video using footage from previous Hellboy films to tease how the saga could end if a threequel was officially ordered up.

Interestingly, the YouTuber has taken the route of imagining the 2019 reboot had never happened. In his version of Hellboy 3, Milla Jovovich wasn’t hired to play the villainous Nimue but an ass-kicking ally for Big Red instead. And in the caption, the creator explains his thought process, saying: “I’d rather have Milla play a good guy and a big helping hand in this one and make the villains even crazier and the threat much bigger for everyone.”

Ron Perlman Hellboy

So, could a real Hellboy 3 ever actually happen? Well, del Toro is a very busy man – the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s next project is a stop-motion animated adaptation of Pinocchio – and Perlman turned 70 this year. Still, there are more outlets for a would-be cult movie like this nowadays than there used to be. It would be a perfect tentpole streaming release, for instance, similar to Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Tell us, though, do you want to see Hellboy 3 become a reality? Join the conversation in the usual place below.

Watch: Milla Jovovich Fights A Greater Rathalos In New Monster Hunter Promo

Paul W.S. Anderson shot to fame helming effects-heavy genre movies that don’t usually go over well with critics, but often do solid business at the box office. Be it Mortal Kombat, several installments in the Resident Evil franchise, Alien vs. Predator or the Death Race remake, the director can be relied on to deliver an over the top action extravaganza almost every time and his latest effort looks no different.

Yes, Anderson’s new film finds him on familiar turf, as he gets behind the camera for another video game adaptation that features wife Milla Jovovich in the lead role. We are, of course, talking about Monster Hunter, which we hadn’t seen a whole lot of up until recently.

But now that the marketing campaign is underway, the studio is starting to drop some tantalizing looks at the blockbuster and up above you can catch another new promo – though you’ll have to skip ahead to the 42:09 mark.

While there’s not a whole lot here to feast on, it is indeed another promising glimpse at the project that teases a larger than life adaptation that’s seemingly following on in the same vein as most of the director’s previous work. Which could be a good thing if you enjoy his style. Not everyone does, but the Resident Evil franchise certainly found a big fanbase, and it’s hard to deny that despite their flaws, Anderson’s efforts are often hugely entertaining.

In any case, we’ll find out soon enough how Monster Hunter fares, as the pic will be with us later this year, on December 30th. Providing the studio doesn’t get cold feet due to COVID-19 and move it into 2021, that is.

Tom Holland Teased Doctor Strange In Spider-Man 3 Last Year

This week delivered some shocking but hugely exciting news for Spider-Man 3Benedict Cumberbatch has reportedly signed on to return as Doctor Strange in the threequel. The good doctor’s involvement might tell us many things, including that it potentially confirms the movie having a multiverse angle, but it’s also exciting just because it means we get more of the fun dynamic between Peter Parker and Stephen Strange.

It’s interesting to note, then, that star Tom Holland teased this pairing way back in summer 2019. While promoting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Holland told CinemaBlend that he wanted to work with his fellow British actor again as he enjoyed the science vs. magic contrast between the two characters.

“I’m really wanting to do a team-up with Doctor Strange, because we’re both New Yorkers and I just really like the idea of a science guy being teamed up with a guy who does magic,” Holland said. “Because it totally contradicts everything he knows. And I like the idea that there is real science that Peter Parker talks about, and then there’s Doctor Strange gibberish, where he’s like, ‘The time rift and the thing and the thing.’ So it’s kind of fun.”

So, did Holland know something about what Marvel were planning way back then, or is his enthusiasm for a Doctor Strange team-up what inspired it to become a reality in the first place? Well, we know that Holland has some sway by this point, as he was even involved in the re-negotiations between Marvel and Sony that allowed Spidey to stick around the MCU. And Marvel also probably thought it was a good idea after seeing Holland and Cumberbatch’s hilarious dynamic when they were paired together on the Avengers: Infinity War press tour in 2018.

Of course, Cumberbatch’s Strange will be Parker’s new mentor in Spider-Man 3, following on from his late, beloved father figure Tony Stark and Nick Fury (or at least his Skrull double) in Far From Home. Strange and the web-head also have a long history of working together in the comics. We can maybe infer, then, that the Sorcerer Supreme is key to how Jamie Foxx will return as Electro, given that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will break down the walls between realities.

Scientists Say Murder Hornets Are Now Entering The Slaughter Phase

2020 has been a real barrel of laughs, huh? Well, now you can add murder hornets to the list of things to worry about. Also known as Giant Asian Hornets, the killer bugs have been spotted in Washington State and this means trouble is on the way. According to AP, scared residents of the town of Blaine, Whatcom County were calling in sightings of the monster insects and state scientists have now confirmed their presence.

Washington State Department of Agriculture entomologist Sven-Erik Spichiger spoke to journalists, explaining that:

“We believe we are dealing with a nest. We hope to locate the nest in a couple of weeks and eradicate it.”

Spichiger went on to warn that all data says that the hornets are about to enter what he describes as their “slaughter phase” and that it’s vital that they discover and destroy the hive before that. Sadly, though, so far, they’ve made little progress.

One scientist did manage to corner a live hornet and bravely attempted to glue a radio tag to it, but he ultimately failed. So far, it seems our best bet is to entrap a murder hornet and convert it into an unwitting ally and send it to betray its brethren, but I wouldn’t want to be the entomologist tasked with that.

Murder Hornets

The silver lining is that right now the murder hornets don’t necessarily want to murder us. There are multiple reports of people being stung to death in Asia, but the most common target of the hornets are actually honey bees. This doesn’t mean they’re not a menace, though, as mankind depends on our bee buddies to pollinate crops. If the slaughter phase kicks off and the bee population of Washington State finds itself under siege from gigantic monster hornets, we could see the state’s raspberry and blueberry crops decimated.

And is it really that crazy to suggest that one day the murder hornets might tire of their honey bee prey and set their sights on conquering our human civilization and subjecting us under their deadly stings? All current scientific evidence suggests that this scenario is a ludicrous and infantile fantasy cooked up to ease a slow news day, but who really knows what goes on in the sick, sick mind of a murder hornet?
